Busy replied to HarleyGirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I think she is smiling. Thanks Harley! -
Request documentation from the vet attesting his breed as a boxer mix. Does the vet have an idea what the other mix is? My philosphy is this, landlord, prove this dog has pit in him. (Let them fork out the money) Our pets are our family, I have 4 of my own, they love us inspite of oursleves.

I discovered my 1st NSV this past weekend. My mother died in 2004 and prior to her death she gave me a 1 1/2 carat diamond ring. I wore it for a while until I almost had to have it cut off my finger. After that epidsode I stored it in my jewlery box and thought I would eventually give it to my daughter. My band has been getting looser so this past weekend I tried on my mother's diamond. It's loose on my finger and I have to put another ring on over it to not have it slide off. Yep, I'm happy!! -
I wish my body had an alarm system....or if it does I'm not tuned into it. DH made this WONDERFUL pasta/chicken dish (the devil) that he knows I love last night for dinner. My plan was to pick the chicken from the pasta and maybe eat a taste of the pasta. You know what happened!! I ate as much as I usually would and felt like I had let myself down afterwards. Then I fussed at him for tempting me! Had to apoligize for that one later, it's my weakness.

Band, doing good. Although my ticker says 18 lbs I have lost 25 lbs. Chugging along. My incisions have healed well but the other day I found (this is gross) a pus pocket in the incision for my port. I cleaned it and put antibotic cream and a band-aid over it. Still a little red and sore but getting better. I have not had a fill yet but it is scheduled for the end of May. We are going on vacation and I do not want to damper it with super monitoring my foods, I plan on enjoying myself while trying to eat right. (Prayer is appreciated!!) Congrats to CBraessler and Lele. Time will fly by and it will be over b4 you know it. Good luck!!

Is it just me or does anyone else burp alot?? Drives me nuts because it happens at the worst times.

I also used Obesity Law and worked with Kelly. She was awsome and told me about a program where the makers of the Lap band would pay their lawyer fee. It worked although it was a long process. I was banded 03/20/08. Don't give up the fight.

Bandchick, WOW, 78 lbs is awsome (GREEN with envy) in 5 months. I don't know what you are doing but I want to do it too!!! I know your DH and son are proud of you. Pat yourself on your back and be proud of yourself also. If it wasn't so early in the morning I would get up and do the Happy Dance for you....but I'm too tired and have not had my tea yet. I will do it later and call it EXERCISE!!!!

Sherri and Hope...HAPPY BIRTHDAY (1 Day Late) I have been absent from the boards, time to focus on classes again. 3 weeks b4 the end of the semister so I am having to knock out some serious paperwork. I will be glad when December comes so I can be finished with this process. What was I thinking going back to school at my age!! My scales have been stuck for the past 2 wks also. I am keeping a track of my food intake (SUPPOSE 2  still on mushies. My calories are under 700, Protein between 60 - 70, carbs between 50 - 60, and fats are 25 - 30. I always get between 64 - 70 oz of Water and walk 1 to 1 1/2 miles at 5 days per wk. Whats up???? What do I need to adjust??
-
I will take that and a shot of vodka!! They hurt this year! Then we just found out DH screwed up on last years taxes so we have a NICE penality plus adjustments to pay for last year. Make that 2 shots of vodka!!

Moosey, I hope everything turned out fine and you are home and happy. As far as protein, I ordered the Unjury unflavored powered protein (online) and it adds 20 grams per scoop to what you are eating. I have put it in broth, carnation instant breakfast, blended yogart, barely taste it. Since I have moved to mushies I still use it in anything I can think of. I also bought protein shots from GNC (someone on the boards suggested). They are 42 grams of protein in 3 oz and do not taste bad. I am the same way as you as trying to ensure I do not lose hair. Let us know how things are going.

Fenton, my DH is trying to talk me into parasailing next month. I can just see the sharks circling down below thinking "LUNCH". I think snowboarding would be a better choice!
-
I was told nothing but walking or treadmill for 4 weeks, I am still sore in the port area. Reached out to shut the care door the other day and hurt myself so bad I cried!

Ginny, wanted to check on your progress. I have lost 18 lbs and I also was banded 3/20 so you are doing very well as far as I am concerned. My doctor put me on mushies last Friday and I am to remain on them for 1 month. Will be a long month. I think I have head hunger not real hunger because at night, after everything is done, I "want" something to chew. Lately the choice has been SF jello but I would KILL for an oatmeal/raisin cookie!! My 1st fill is scheduled for 05/30 but that is because I am going on vacation 5/17 (Hawaii..YEA) and I want to enjoy myself while I am there and not worry about PBing. Keep up the good work!! I have had several people tell me I look like I have lost weight in my face and last night at class (Senior yr. college..can I get another YEA!) a friend walked up behind me and said, "lose anymore and you are going to lose those jeans." I Loved It!!
-
O K....(hanging my head in shame) I was banded 3/20, and when the doctor said mushies...he doomed me! Since last Friday I have had 1/4 of a roll at O'Charles (basicly picked it apart in tiny pieces) and a cup of potato soup...heaven!! The seafood off a Subway seafood sub, (they put it in a little cup and I ate it for lunch and dinner) and the meat off a taco from Taco Bell. I tried to be sure my cheating exp. were soft foods but straying is straying.

Kerri, you can really see the loss in your neck and face!! You look great!! Amanda, wow Bermuda, so when do you go?? My DH scheduled Hawaii for May 17th and I am trying to drop 20 lbs b4 the date. I am not excited about the flight but I am excited about the trip!
-
Diva, I'm doing the happy dance for your and calling it additional exercise. Congrats on seeing the 2's!! NYCM00, careful with those incisions. Are they red because you are scratching or because they are inflamed? If they itch can you use Benadryl? If they are inflamed call your doctor!!

Zeama, what is your status?? How are things going with you?? -
Hello all, I have not been on the boards for a couple of weeks, trying to catch up on work. Things are going well, I have moved to mushies and find they are hard to find. I found myself sitting in Taco Bell with my DH eating pinto beans for dinner tonight. I thought, I'd rather be home drinking a yogart and bananna shake!! I have lost around 18 lbs but I am scared I will start gaining since I am on mushies. If I do I will make some adjustments. Incisions are almost healed except where I developed a reaction to the band-aids they put on my stomach. That hurt worse that the surgery incisions!! I am walking 1 to 1 1/2 miles per day and have lost in my thighs, butt and boobs, waist is giving me some issues!! I have read it so many times on the boards of how happy people are that they have had surgery, I join the ranks, I am tickled!! Got into a size 16/18 w tonight, that deserves a manicure tomorrow!!!!

What kind of band do you have?
Busy replied to TxChelsey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Banded 3/20 with an AP small, no problems so far! -
I found some info on the AP band which I found I have and I have read others also have. Thought this might be helpful. Allergan/Inamed has a new band in the US called the AP band. AP stands for Advanced Platform. There are a couple of differences in this band and the previous ones: 1. Cuff - the cuff on the AP band is 360 degrees around, as opposed to about 300 degrees on the prior bands (there was no cuff around the buckle on the old ones) 2. Cuff length - the cuff on the AP band is 18mm longer/taller than on the previous bands, so the surface area in contact with the stomach is much greater, hopefully increasing the speed of weight loss and maybe reducing the risk of slips 3. Cuff volume - the AP small holds 10cc, the AP large holds 14cc Note that we do not believe that AP patients will lose MORE weight, just possibly faster. So those of you with the older models, it would definitely not be to your benefit to think about having your band swapped out! · They are either APS (small, 10cc) or APL (large, 14cc). · They are considered by some to be "the next generation in AGBs". · They are considered less likely to cause blockage or obstruction than other AGP types. · They are considered less likely to slip than other AGP types. · They are considered to be less likely to cause band erosion than other AGP types. · Like the VG band it is "Omniform" technology - i.e. the balloon has ribs or baffles and the band itself is curved. · The AP has more of a 360 inflation around the stomach as opposed to the 10cm or 9.75cm (4cc) bands, which have more like 260 or 280 degrees inflation (the rest being the buckle), and the VG which has more like 280 or 300. It is understood that this was simply an upgrade to the existing band to make it easier and less traumatic to remove. · The silicone material is much softer than other AGP types. · They are more concentric (rounded) when inflated than other AGB types. · The balloon is pleated to 'grip' the stomach better. · The balloon goes all the way around the inner surface of the band, rather than missing a piece at the locking mechanism. · The balloon is wider. · They have an easier release mechanism to remove the band if need be. · They have the locking mechanism isolated from the stomach. · AP type bands have been FDA approved for the US, but will not be available until the summer at the earliest. · We understand that there are NO plans at this time to discontinue any of the bands Allergan already makes. They still plan to manufacture and offer the 10cm and the 9.75cm (the 4cc) bands as well as the VG band. · new : AP ( Advanced Platform ) · APS ( small) · APL ( large )

I had my 2 wk appointment today and the grand total is 15 lbs, I am happy. Nurse had an attitude but I "smiled her to death". Doc. also moved me to mushies so tonight I had blended broc. and cheese soup, it was heaven!! He told me to stay on mushies for 4 wks so I am going to need alot of ideas. I was told my band is a APS band, and already has a little fluid in it. Going to have to research it some. I have scheduled my next appointment for 05/30, and he told me I would receive a fill. He wanted me to return in 4 wks but DH are leaving for Hawaii on the 17th of May and I want to enjoy myself!!
