  1. Stay-Tuned, seems the insurance would understand the surgery is not "complete" since the appliance was not installed according to the manufactor's guidelines. I know they will say the port was originally attached but it is not normal practice for the port to detach. Makes me wonder where their head is or their sense of reasoning. Good luck, hope they realize since the device is not functioning correctly they wasted the company's (your) funds and insurance companies don't want to wasted money. If they deny you contact an attorney.
  2. I received my band March 08 and paid special attention to my port site as I was scared to allow it to become infected or worse. I always kept my insessions clean and medicated. After about 4 monts out, the port scar os tender and sometimes numb to the touch. When I sneeze I have to hold the port site or it will really hurt bad. I assume my body if functing accordingly but my port site remaines numb. I plan on speaking to my doctor about this issue a week from Friday to see what he has to say.
  3. Stay Tuned, what has happened to you and your port incident? I am 5 months out and still feel twinges with my port area and the scar is sorta numb. I plan on speaking to my doctor when I go Sept 19 to see if he will help be understand any of this. My weight loss is slow but sure, right now I have lost 45 lbs and I am content...for now. Just want to make sure everything inside is fine!!! Hope everything turned out well for you. We fought to long to receive these band and now I don;t want to fight that battle again unless I have to. Tess, what kind of songs did you download to your ipod to walk to?? I am tired of the music I have on my ipod and don't listen to the radio enough to choose any different ones. Our day today was full of family and friends. We played by the pool, BBQed on the grill, bowled on the Wii, laughed at each other and really enjoyed the day! Yes, I am tired so good night all!!! (choices I made today were not real bad but were not my best, tomorrow is another day)

Appeals - Has anyone used a lawyer?

Teri, surgery was nothing compaired to what I expected, it was a breeze. It gets tedious the following weeks when you have to consume only liquids and mushys. I had surgery in March so I have moved to solids. My husband grills THE BEST pork chops on the grill....and now I can't eat them because they get stuck. I have to chew, chew, chew, chew,...then chew some more! Not worth it. Don't sweat the surgery, you will not regret it.

    Kentucky, "who's your Doctor"

Hello all, hope everyone is doing well. I have lost my motivation in the past few weeks (since I came home from vacation) and have not really exercised. The results is my scale went up 2 lbs. I wanted to cry...so I asked my husband to hide the Oreo Cookies. This weekend is pretty booked so I plan to get back to my walking on Monday morning before I go to work. (not as hot outside). We plan on going to Flordia in October with kids/grandchildren and I bought the cutest skort set to wear, 1 size smaller. At this rate I will be sending it back!! Keep me in your thoughts! PA

I have a concern with my band. Lately I have been feeling sore under my breast area, sort of an empty, sore feeling. If I arch my back it takes the pressure off that area but I can't spend the day with an arched back, (my office is in a mental institution, people would talk). I am wondering if medication I am on for arthritis (liquid Tylenol) has irritated my stomach and caused problems although I do try to drink fluids after taking the medication to wash it through my pouch.

Kerri, we never realize how important they are until we are older and they are gone. I lost my father in 2000 and my mother in 2004 due to them being hit by a semi. My mother lasted longer than my father but the years were not good to her. She also was ready to go, and it hurt to let her go but my feelings are that she is in a better place and I will see them again. As for the 3 lbs, you've lost 100 b4, you will lose 3 again. Your in my thoughts.
  11. I had my first fill the end of May and am scheduled for another one in September. There was no charge for the fill in May. I guess I need to find out how long that will be n effect. Somewhere I heard they covered for 1 year and somewhere else I heard they covered for 2 years. I will find out and let you know. I would assume Humana would still cover, they have for the past few years it was just that since lapband was considered a "new procedure" they always denied. Now there is so much info supporting the benifits of weight loss surgery, insurance companies are approving it.
  12. Misty, good luck on your choices, we know our own habits so if you feel bypass is your route, as long as you get healthy. I agree, six months is the requirement and did end up doing 9 months before the process was over. After I had completed my 6 months I kept going just to give added info to Humana. Cheryl, if this is what you want to do stay with it. I ended up getting legal aid to "encourage" Humana to approve. Research your appeal rights and meet your deadlines.
  13. It took a long time for approval, Humana was not as open to LB surgery as I think other insurance companies were. Once the ball got rolling I would say maybe 3 mths after I completed the 6 month supervised diet. I live in Western KY so I went to Clarksvill TN to have surgery, maybe 15 - 20 miles from home. After I was approved for surgery I was scheduled for an appointment and given a list of test I would have to have done before the set surgery date. (maybe 1 month away) After completing the test I had to drink that dreaded stuff that makes you empty your colon of everything you have EVER eaten. The following day I had surgery, it was a breeze, came home the next day and took a week off of work. No one at work knows or suspects anything, (I work with gossipy people) that way I go at my own pace without anyone constantly saying, "how much have you lost??" I have carried my lunch to work for the past year so nothing has changed in that department. To date, (my ticker screwed up when I tried to update it) I have lost 39 lbs.
  14. I have Humana and am a KY state employee. I had surgery March 2008 and my orig. BMI was 40. Humana required of me 6 months supervised diet. The diet in addition to health problems, (BP and arthritis in knees) helped me with approval. When I first started Humana was not as open to LP surgery but they seemed to have become more open to things.
  15. I have a list longer than my arm, but will name a few 1. Be at goal weight! 2. Be able to walk the 4 flights of stairs to my office 3. Not make the neighbors scream in fright when I sit outside by the pool in a swimsuit!! 4. Ride the ferris wheel at the county fair w/o making the seat tip!
  16. I don't know anything about the doctor's in Clarksville. I live in Hopkinsville and my doctor, Dr. Covington, wrote the letter of referral although I had already scheduled an appointment with Steeley b4. Guess I did it backwards!
  17. There was maybe a month after approval before I was scheduled for surgery. There is a couple of classes you have to attend b4 they will schedule surgery. They called me 2 days b4 my appointment and told me the doctor would not schedule surgery until I attended those classes. Then there are 3 or 4 test done at Gateway (blood, teaching you to use a breathing machine, x-rays). Seems like you have cleared the majority of hoops. Yes, the law firm rocked!! I think if I had not used them I would still be waiting to hear from Humana. If you get turned down the 1st time remember you have limited time to file an appeal, hopefully that won't happen. Insurance companies are learning that LB surgery is helping more become healthy.
  18. JWRN, Steeley only sees patient in his office 3 days per week and I scheduled about a month in advance but I wanted a specific week. It took me a while to get approved for sugery. My insurance company kept moving the hoops for me to jump through (letters, 6 month diet, and so on) so I ended up getting Kelly Lindstrum at Obesity Law. She dealt with my insurance company and finally got me approved. I ended up having 2 psy. evals. so next time my husband tells me I'm crazy I am going to pull out the letter and prove him wrong!! Good luck with the sugery. I really like Dr. Steeley. The morning of surgery he was wonderful and informative. When I went for my 1st follow-up after surgery he acted like I had lost 1000 lbs when I had only lost 18. Boosted my ego.

If we are confessing, alas, I also have sinned. Watching the grandchildren tonight, so we baked double chocolate chip Cookies. So I ate one and walked away. But I came back and nibbled on another. Later, talking with hubby, I found another one in my hand. I grabbed the boys and we walked to the school playground about 10 minutes from my home. I called my hubby and told him to put away the cookies he wanted and to wrap the rest up to send home with the kids. Bad..bad..bad!!!:cursing:

Harley, have fun on vacation and enjoy your friends. The cabin is beautiful!!! Make the jello shots, (sugar free of course) and remember what your goal is. Believe me, walking, hiking, and the great outdoors will drop some lbs.!!!!
  21. Congradulations on all the NSV's, I can relate to the adjustment of the driver's seat in the car. One day I got in my car and it just did not feel right, had to re-adjust!! Harley, finally getting to wear those important rings do mean something. I finally was able to wear the ring my mother gave me, makes me "warm and fuzzy inside" each time I look at it now. Purple, bet the dress looks beautiful and heres to hoping you get more uses out of it! Candles reflects great off purple! Wisshi, start buying cute underwear!! Fenton, buy a new belt!!

1st, great weight loss Scrappy, you have really been working that band! 2nd, some hair loss but not enough to really worry about. My hair dresser did notice that some of my hair was coming out but my hair is really thick so she said not to worry about it. She also said it would grow back in. I know that does not help...what are you suppose to do until the hair returns?? Keep up the positive attitude.
