  1. I work in the medical field also. If you are implying for a second that everything that happens to patients in surgery that shouldn't have gets reported, you have a huge misconception of HIPAA. HIPAA is a patient privacy act for their medical information, not a Better Business Bureau for bad surgeons. What part of the medical field do you work in, obviously not surgery like me. Word of mouth and real life occurrances is the point she is trying to make. They carry important data with them that isn't recorded or reported anywhere alot of times. There are a lot of rural areas and people who have no families, etc. that inappropriate medical events happen to and no action is ever taken or documented. Let's all get real here. Accept that there is other information out there that is pertinent, besides documented info.

    Colonoscopy: Help!

Wonderful! Congrats! Glad that worked out for you! I noticed on your display of your fills you got one every month or two with very little adjustment each time. Is that the way your Dr. suggested to do it? I was banded 2/1/08. I went for a fill 8 weeks out, then again 8 more weeks went again. The first one I got 1.5 cc's. The second one I got 1.5cc's. It has been a month and I am still very restricted. I have lost 30 lbs and am wondering how fast you lost. Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks-Jessica

    A little confused

Hey! The band is placed before your actual large stomach, therefore making a small pouch before your stomach. I was banded 2/1/08 and had the same situation before my first fill. They told me to get my first fill 6 weeks out. What did your Dr. say? I could really eat a fair amount, but didn't do any damage to my pouch. You'll probably be fine, but just be careful about it.
  4. Where are you from and who did your banding? I was banded in Tijuana, Mexica at Bajanor hospital Feb. 01, 2008. I have lost 35 lbs, but have not been feeling very energetic lately. I am not getting my protien and vitamins like I should, though. I'll be waiting to hear from you. Thanks-Jessica

  5. Hey-I live in Winnsboro, TX and am only an hour from Tyler. I have heard about Stephanie, but need the specifics. All of the people from Winnsboro that I know have been going to Dr. Jayaseelen in Dallas. But he charges 250 each fill and with gas beig so high, Tyler would be better. Would you please give me more specifics when you get a chance. Thanks-Jessica

  6. I work at the hospital doing ultrasound and I live there. I have to take call alot also. I have a 14 yr old son, and a 4 yr old daughter. We stay so crazy all the time with all the activities and daily life , I just haven't devoted enough time to this journey of lapbanded life. I am getting to the point of being exhausted, because I'm not doing all the things I am supposed to do, and I am starting to really feel it. I love sports and am of course really involved in all of the kids activities. I have been having a hard time even getting protein shakes down, much less chicken, etc. I am starting to figure a few things out on this site, but the threads are confusing. Hope things continue in such a great direction for you! Thanks-Jessica

  7. Have you gotten any of your results? Hope you are doing okay. Keep me updated-Jessica
  8. Hey- I am in Winnsboro, TX. Just 1 1/2 hours east of Dallas. Let me kow when you were banded and how you are doing. I don't know how to do this whole friend thing on this site. I work at the hospital doing ultrasound and do not have time to get on as much as I would like. Let me kow if you find anymore info on those supplements she listed. I NEED them, I feel so exhausted all the time! I need a BOOST! Thanks-Jessica

    eating ethnic food ...

Kats advice for eating slowly is the key and very hard to do. We are obviously not trained that way or most of us wouldn't be on this site. If I chew slowly and wait in between bites, I do pretty well. Queso, refried beans, cheese enchiladas--it will work, but I try to avoid it as much as possible due to calories.

    Hair Loss!

I was banded 2/1/2008 and mine is starting to thin. But I know it's because I haven't been getting my protein shakes down. I am trying to push myself to get my protein, but since my second fill, getting anything down has been a struggle.Thanks-Jessica
  14. Who did your surgery? What happened to you? I am so sorry that you've developed such a complication. I didn't do my research either. After I returned I found out my doctor had been arrested for federal insurance fraud in San Diego and Mexico. A little scary, but I guess I have been blessed so far. Let me know how you are. Thanks!-Jessica
  15. The weird or irregular heart beats are called arrythmia. Your heart rhythm is off. The holter monitor you have on is for 24 hours and is recording every beat of your heart. The results will be very helpful to your doctor. Why did they not clear all of this before you are there pre-oping for surgery? That's ridiculous. You will be back for your surgery soon, it doesn't sound very serious and you are young. They have to do what is best for you and make sure. Just be patient and you will be right back on that table soon. I'm sorry and hope you get your surgery soon!
  16. NO-it depends on how significant what the cardiologist hears is and if he thinks it is necessary. Murmurs are very common and not a big deal. It will just depend on the cardiologist.A young as you are, I would guess probably not! Coronary artery disease would be very uncommon in someone your age.

    Colonoscopy: Help!

Just drink it slowly and you will be surprised how much you get down. I work at the hospital in radiology and the purpose of this drink is to cleanse the stool out of the colon so they can see the colon wall with the scope. If you have too much stool in the colon they will not be able to do the scope. After the doctor's office calls and you speak with them about your situation, I am sure you can work something out, maybe add a fleets enema also.Good luck and let me know-I'm interested.Thanks-Jessica

    pain in my right side

No-slippage is really hard to do-usually with lots of heaving and vomiting. The pain is there after you eat because the stomach is full and it pushes on nerves around your band. If you have slippage you will either fill no restriction at all or vomit everything you try like even liquids. There are some variations, but I think you'll be fine. It will slowly get better as your restriction from the fill loosens-Good luck! Did you try the maalox?

    eating ethnic food ...

Nachos/chips and hot sauce always go down. I had my first margarita post-op two days ago and had no problems except I started feeling it waaaay faster than usual, which is not a bad thing!!
  20. Thanks! I love this site- it is so helpful!
  21. Hey- I got banded Feb. 01, 2008 and had ny first fill 9 weeks out. i was scared too, but it's a piece of cake. You will feel very restricted again, like the first few days after surgery, so prepare yourself for liquids again. I lost like 13 pounds after my surgery , but had gained like 3-4 pounds of it back before I got my first fill. Alot of my friends did too. Those days are over once you start getting fills, so you'll lose it back and more. Good luck!
  22. I was banded Feb of this year. I am an ultrasound technician and do stress test. The chemical stress test is EASY! You get an I. V. started and have resting images done. Then 30 minutes after you have been injected with adenosine in your I.V. you have images taken again. Easy does it! The medicine does to you what excercise does to you. This test is checking to see if your coronary arteries are getting enough oxygenated blood to the left ventricle. A heart murmur can be caused for valve regurgitation and other small abnormalities. It is not a big deal, you will be fine! I'm sure your stress test will turn out good, your doctor is just being careful. Good luck and let me know if I can help. Thanks, Jessica

Lap Band Surgery Terminated Due To Scar Tissue

I have worked in the hospital for 12 years. You will have to have your adhesions removed, then after they heal you should be able to have it done. Check with a different doctor and see. I do ultrasound and an ultrasound will not show adhesions or stomach lining and bowel. You would require a cat scan and or EGD scoping to evaluate them. The adhesions cannot be felt from a physical exam like you had. It was a new finding once he got in and he is correct that you cannot be banded with them in the way. Just consult with a general surgeon and have them removed and then you should be good for go in a few weeks. Let me know how it goes. Thanks, Jessica Stephens

    Best Financing Options

I had mine done in Tijuana, Mexico in Feb. 2008. I went to bajanor hospital and on there website ----www.bajanor.com---- there are several financing companies listed for you to click on and apply. They are in the U.S. I wound up using Reliance Medical Financing. Even though you are applying from there website that doesn't mean you have to go to bajnor hospital. Once you are approved, they will get the specifics of what doctor they need to send payment to. This usually takes a week or more of getting it all done, so get started!! Good luck! Let me know if I can help.

    eating ethnic food ...

I have tried it all. Mexican food restaraunts have queso and chips and salsa that always go down easy, but rice never does. I order cheese enchilada and it works. I have tried Chinese, Indian foods a few times and have never had any luck except for cheese wontons. Everything else comes up.Lasagna and spaghetti work for me if I chew slow and don't overeat. Hope this helps.
