Best of luck, Rick! You will be glad you did this. I am down 36 pounds, and feel a huge difference already. All the best and let us know how you do!

Wendy- You are correct that usually Ren/Fielding have you meet with the nutritionist first, then come back to meet with them. However, in my experience, once I met with Dr. Ren, she offered me a surgery date 2 weeks out, which was too quick for me, as I was travelling on business and could not do the 2 week liquid diet at that time. You may be able to get in quicker than you think. By the way, all three of them are superb physicians, so you are fine with any of them doing your surgery. Good luck!

Good for you, Rick. It won't be long now. I just had my first fill yesterday. I am eating like a bird, but feel terrific and am not the least bit hungry. The weight is starting to come off. Good luck on getting your date!

Sorry, Rick. I've been travelling and just got back. Surgery went great! It was not painful (felt like I did a bunch of situps so my belly was sore. But nothing like I expected; so don't worry. I did my first couple of weeks on liquids and now on mushy foods, but weiht loss is holding at abotu 23 pounds so far. I think my body is still trying to figure out whether I am feeding it or starving it, so it is kind of holding onto the weight right now. The doctor said not to worry; I am in the healing phase, not the weight loss phase yet. But I feel great, lots of energy, and look forward to the challenge of shedding 100-120 pounds. Hope all is well with you!

I am much better today. Had my surgery Monday; back in my office today, although I won't spend the whole day here. Just couldn't take laying around the house. I have been walking a bit, and like many of you, I have the gas pains in the shoulders coupled with a bit of bloat, so I am not eating a lot. I had a slimfast shake for Breakfast, and a cup of Soup for lunch, but I am stuffed. I am sure this will all settle down in the next week or tow. Good luck, all.

Hi- I got banded yesterday at NYU in New York. Feel good today except for the gas in my left shoulder, but my belly is just sore and I am surprised how well this all went. I just got home this afternoon. What sort of things are you all consuming the first few days?

2boys3cats, I just came home from NYU today after getting banded yesterday by Dr. Ren at NYU. The whole experience was wonderful. I was completely out of recovery and in a room within 2 hours of my surgery, and feeling good, although a little sore from the surgery. All of the nurses and doctors were great, and Dr. Ren did a wonderful job. I paid a $250 deductible, and my insurance picked up the rest. As the NYU team is recognized as leaders in the field, you should be quite comfortable in your decision if you decide to go that route. Good luck!

Whats Up with the Shoulder Pain??
Bigband62 replied to destynee990's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got banded yesterday and came home from the hospital today. Although my stomach is sore, the most pain is from the left shoulder. I have walked a bit and taken Gas-x. But believe me, if this is the worst pain, then you will be fine. I was surprised how good I felt after surgery and am actually going back to work tomorrow. Good luck Destyknee!! You will basically feel like you did too many sit ups. No worries........ -
Big Rick- I am getting banded tomorrow morning, so I'll get back to you in a couple of days and give you the "skinny" on how it goes. As far as the process of getting this far, I really think once you are committed to doing it, as you seem to be, you have to select a surgeon you trust and go for it. I am using Dr. Ren at NYU in New York, who is touted as one of the leaders in this surgery. I too am hoping to get physical again, but have spent the majority of the past 25 years as a business guy eating and drinking too much and entertaining customers all the time. Now it is time to focus on me! Good luck, I am sure I will be hearing more from you soon, and I'll fill you in on how tough (or easy) it is.
