Welcome The pre-op diet is very doable. I had to do two weeks of liquid diet. You just need to get yourself into a mind set. It is easier than when you start a diet in the past. In the past the diet was suppose to be for a lifetime. this diet is for only seven days and there is a goal (surgery) waiting for you if you comply. Actually the first couple of days is the hardest and then it just beomes normal. You cannot focus on what you cannot have you have to focus on what you will have (weight loss success). The BPing is similar to when a baby spits up. There i

Can anyone feel there port, or see it sticking out?

I can feel my port and as I loose more and more weight I can feel it more. When I lay down I can see it. I figure it is an even trade for lossing weight. I would rather be 145 pounds with a port sticking out of my than 300 pounds and no port :> PS my port is directly below my sternum. Where is everybody elses located at? I pretty much figure it is a surgeons preferance where they place it.
  3. 12-29-05 BF= 1/2 cup scrambled eggs Lunch=7-8 cooked shrimp and a side salad (not fried shrimp) snack=two pieces holiday choc. (god they have to get off this stuff at work) Dinner=one chicken taco water=64 oz exersice=none unless you count 13 hours at work ok I fell better now that is off my chest :>
  4. This is exactly what I need to do. I am at a complete standstill and need to obviously do something different. Also, if I can see what others are eating and maybe I can get some ideas. I work 7am to 7:30 pm and I to eat like a cow after 7. I stop at fastfood places. I am going to bring a healthy dinner and eat it at work and quit eating after seven. I also have increased my exersice time and days a week. Now I have to get up at 4:30 am to work out before work. Oh well nobody siad this was going to be easy. I just have to remember how good compliments feel :>

    wine anyone?

I was told I could drink but it moderation. More like once a month or a speical occasion. I think the reason is due to the smaller pouch think that we have a increase risk in developing a stomach ulcer.

Poll: would you do it over again?

I would do it over in a heart beat. I not only have lost 75 pounds since banded on Aug 22, 2005 I have learned alot of things about myself. The first being that I did this to myself. I always said that I was heavy and I did not really know why. I truly did not think that I ate that much. Now I know that I truly did. I also realized that there is not a magic pill out there that will just take all the damage away that I have done to myself. I am responsible for myself. I did not put the weight on overnight and I will not take it off overnight. The band is a tool not a sure way to loose weight. Being overweight is not any different from being addicted to drugs or alcohol it is just a different addiction. We have to live with the addiction everyday. I am responsbile for me not my band. Of course my band will let me know if I ate the wrong food. I think alot of people can loose weight but if you don't change your frame of mind and thinking and are able to except yourself and forgive yourself then you will be a skinny unhappy person. Just remember that not all skinny people are happy and not all fat people are unhappy:>

    What is PB?

It is when you eat to quick or the wrong type of food and you get these pains in your chest and burping that is uncontrolled. There is also slimming which is where you have this censation to vomit up instead of mostly food coming up it is thick slimmy mucus.

    I think it worked!

I had my third fill yesterday. I now have 2.1 cc in a 4 cc band. Truthfully the first two I felt a little constriction. Today I am still on liquids and I fill full on them. I felt like I could eat before I even had my band placed. I hope that this sensation lasts. I was told to increase my exersice to 45 min 5 times a week. I have been getting up at the crack of dawn (actually it is still dark) 4 am. to work out before I go in for my twelve hour sifts. I also have an hour drive to and from work. I feel like there is not enough time in the day to do everything. But I would rather be "Skinny" then get 8 hours of sleep. I guess it is an even trade. I just pray that I have hit the "sweet spot" it would be a great Christmas gift:>:Bunny :banana :banana :Bunny :banana:Bunny :banana :banana :banana :Bunny :banana :banana :Bunny :banana :banana :Bunny

    Maybe getting cold feet

I think we all had the same jitters that you are having know. I am SO glad that I went through with this I am happier than I have been in a long long time. With and true gain comes a true risk. The risk is very minimal surgery espeically when compared to gastric bypass. Even though you read about complications on here I am sure that there are way more sucess stories. Good Luck and just keep focused on the out come:>

    Prednisone & weight gain

Sunsett Usually the weight gain is in patients that are on long term steroid use. In your case the doctor is treating you with predisone because it will decrease the inflammation caused by your asthma and respiratory infection hence allow you to cough up all the mucus in your lungs and prevent pneumonia from forming and let you breath easier. Predisone also will increase your blood sugar drasticly if you are diabetic. There are other options avaliable instead of taking the predisone but this usually works the best. 5 days of predisone is nothing, I would suggest to take it and feel better before Christmas arrives. Good Luck! and Good Health!

ok, now I'm REALLY freaking out!

You have to remeber medicine is a money making industry. You have to pick your surgeon and facility very carefully. Ask questions, Ask LOTS of questions. Make sure that you ask statistics ie, how many of these procedures have you done? How long have you been performing bariatric surgery? Where did you receive your bariatric training from? Medicine is a huge booming BUSINESS, yes business. Did you every wonder why most cancer treatments performed outside of the USA are usually successful. Just think of all the $$$$ that would be lost if cancer was cured. I am not saying that there are not caring and truley compassionate people out there doing it to help others but usually it has to do with the almighty dollar. Just be very careful with whom you trust your life with. I was lucky and had a great surgeon and did an awesome job. But see I had an advantage I am in the medical field and was aware of who to trust and who not to trust :> It will be OK, just be totally aware of your surgeon and your facility and get your facts. You can go on line and get statisitics about your surgeon but you have to pay for the information.

    Went to the Doctor

Good Luck Angie! I had my gallbladder out and I would do it one hundred times over to avoid one of the nasty attacks. There really is not alot of pain after the surgery just tenderness. It is almost like having the band placed. They only side effect I had was diarrhea if I ate anything too greasy. But you should not have that problem. It will be OK. Hopefully your kidney stones are small enough that you can pass them on your own. Drink lots and lots of water to produce more urine and get those stones out of you.

My doctor is a crackhead? Please confirm...

Hey can you guys take the flaxseed oil capsule whole. I have been taking it put peircing the capsule and putting it in liquid and drinking it. It tastes pretty much like #$@t! I would love to just take the capsule but I thought it would get caught. Also, I have been taking this stuff for like three weeks and do not see a bit of difference. How long does it usually take? Everyone keeps saying that this is normal and it will go away. I have literally lost over half of my hair. I had super thick hair to begin with and that is why a lot of people have not noticed. It is really bad and my doctor told me to see an endocrinologist. I did that and did a million in one tests and they were all prefectly normal. My hair was like the only thing that I felt was beautiful about before I lost weight, now I am starting to feel good about me as a person and BAM my hair is falling out. I guess some would say it is a even trade. But I sure hope it stops and comes back I would like the best of both worlds :>

    First really bad PB....

This is just a suggestion. If I feel that tightnes buildingi my chest I found that if I can drink a little bit it will usually surpass the grueling length of the pain and go away. Luckly my first and second bp's were on a couple french fries I snuck from my kids so I know I totally avoid them :> To bad it was not pizza :>

    Excessive pb'ing

    Cindy, If you are having gas try liquid meds like gas-x or maalox. If you are having reflux or heart burn pepcid is sold over the counter and I take two tabs at a time. I think that you sould try to slow down and let your body heal. Don't try to force anything down. Also sugar free fudgesicles helped me out and blending my protein shakes with ice. They both feel like your eating or drinking something more than liquid but actually go down like liquid. Take it one day at a time;

    band vs gb question

Maybe I can help you. I have the lap band and my husband had GB along with his mother and his father. I can tell you why I did lap band. I am a nurse and have seen GB that have gone bad I could go on and tell you the morbid details but you can just go on the internet to do that. The band was out patient and if it goes wrong you can take it out. My family all suffered with intense pain for about 2 weeks after there surgery. I had very minimal discomfort. GB and lapband have the same goal. LB is a slower weight loss and does envolve more will power. GB weight loss is faster because say I ate a turkey sandwhich and my husband did too, my sandwhich goes through my entire digestive system. My husband is missing about half of his digetive system (hense the term bypass) so my body took in all of the fat and calories were his took in half. My husband did awesome with his bypass and has lost 180 pound but has said numerous times the he wishes he was aware the LB. This is a personal choice for each of you. The GB is 95% more risky than the LB. We had small children to keep in mind and they need parents (fat or skinny). I do not want to tell your husband what to do, however if he as patience the LB can be just as successful as the GB. My husband also had huge health issues (as most of us do) so the surgery makes it that much more of a risk. But we are a gastric bypass and a lap band household. In the end we both have lost weight and that is the goal. Also, I had LB in Aug a week before my father in law had GB he has lost 65 pounds and I have lost 73 pounds so it is possible to loose weight just as fast or faster than GB. P.S. I know it sounds good but I would stager you surgery and not have it at the same time if possible. There are complications as we have all told you :>

Long time viewer, first time poster

I would gain the 10-15 pounds. Most people gain that weight anyway after they find out that they have been approved. Because then you eat like it is your last meal unitl your pre-op meal starts. You go to all of your favorite places to eat and eat all of your favorite foods. But I will let you in on a lap band secret the doctors don't tell you. You eat normal food after you heal, just not the same amount. You are told that you can never go back to the way you ate before your surgery. Your taste buds and brain do not know that you had the surgery only you stomach knows. So you tend to eat that same types of foods as before but just healthier (sometimes). The insurance thing is just a game. It is a twenty something kid that can tell your doctor (who has gone to school for a million years to be a physician) that you do not quallify. I truely believe they have a specific number of patients that they approve and a specific number they decline and it just depends on what card they draw out of the hat. Oh well, don't get me going on the insurance companies. I did not have any problems, but my husband did with gastric bypass. I have lost 73 pounds in 4 months and he has lost 180 pounds in three years so I guess I can not complain. Good Luck!

    Excessive pb'ing

I had problem with PBing and actually vomiting. I found out that it was do to the pain medication I was taking from the surgery. I was allergic to it. I do not know if you are taking pain medication but I thought I would mention it.

sometime eat a little, sometimes eat alot

I aslo have the same problem. It seems at night I can eat anything I want. I have never bp. Somethimes I think that I push myself just to see if I do. I go to see my surgeon again dec 21. I saw him two weeks ago and adjusted my band for the second time a 1.8 cc in a 4cc band. However, he said that should be the last fill that I would need. He finds this is the best fill. I feel exactly the same as I did with zero saline in my band as I do now. I do feel a slight restriction in the morning. I try to drink the water. I exerscie 3-4 days a week. I do eat more carbs than I should (which got me in this trouble in the first place). I do get my protein in. I was wondering if anybody has more cc in a 4cc band than 1.8? Also if it ever worked? I amost feel I am dieting with will power more than band power. I have lost weight. 25 pounds on pre-op liquid diet and 45 pounds since banding aug 22 2005. I just feel frustrated at times. I guess I thought I would have restriction by now.

7th day and still shoulder pain

I had the pain for two and a half weeks. It is trapped gas from the surgery. There really is nothing you can do to expidite this, it has to work its way out. They told me to do stretching exercises in my shoulder but it really did not help. Time is the only thing. Just think of what you have gained with the band and that will stay with you forever, hopefully the pain will be short lived and you can move on. Oh ya, they also said to try tylenol for arthritis pain I did not try it, if you do check to make sure it does not contain ibuprofen ( i do not think it does) Good Luck!

Part 2 feeling even MORE Stupid...

Jeannie O brand turkey makes a turkey loaf. It tates like turkey but it more moist than regular turkey. I have a better time getting that down. It is a blend of white and dark turkey together. It is actually very good. If you like turkey maybe you could try this. Only a suggestion :> Good Luck!

    Still Eating Alot

I had my second fill last monday. I also have not felt any restriction. In the morning I feel as though I might have some slight restriction. I feel as the day goes on the more I can eat. I have felt the presssure in my chest when I eat too fast. By the way, what the hell is a BP. I think it is like a verp (vomit/burp) not to sure though. Anyway, when I saw my surgeon he said that I was at 1.8 cc in a 4cc band and that this should be my last fill because this where he sees the best results in all of his patients. I am still waiting to feel the sweet spot but so far no luck. I go back to his offce 12-22 so I guess we will find out then. I am trying to "diet" again. I guess I thought that I would never have to say that again after the banding. I cannot talk bad about my band because I have lost 70 pounds in the last 3 1/2 months. But, I do feel like I have done most of it by just going hungry. I have increased my exercise to 4-5 times a week so we will see. Thanks for listening (reading) my boo hoo.

My doctor is a crackhead? Please confirm...

I do not know if it will help you but this is what my surgeon said. 1) 800-1200 cal. daily 2) exersice 3-4 days a week 30 min each 3) limit carb intake (not exclude it) 4) 65 grams of Protein daily or more 5) less than 5 grams of sugar in what you eat 6) three meals a day and no Snacks 7) Water, WAter, WATer, WATEr, WATER!!!! Also in my opinion, most of these doctors are skinny minnies and do not understand how hard it is to loose 20 pounds let alone 120 pounds. I think he is unrealistic. If you found something that works for you then by all means do it. What is he gonna do, take his band back:>
