I've even had a previous hernia ral days. I thought it was just something I should just have to get used to. I've even had a previous hernia rupture and another one develop that were both repaired two weeks ago. I have about 5.5 ccs in my band. I just don't wanna feel like a failure is all. Thank you and I will call him today.

    Definitely Overate

You may want to first try nutri system or a bariatric diet. As previously mentioned the band is NOT a magic weight loss thing. I was banded on 6 23 and it is hard.

    What DON'T they tell you?

I was banded on june 23 and was sure that i would b hungry but so far i havent been. I havent had excessive gas or diarrhea. That was something i was dreading. Sorry i cant tell u more right now but i took a long time to make my decision and feel as though i made the right one. My problem was that i just didnt have the motivation to lose the weight anymore. Only you can make you happy. Best of luck to you in your decision.

    confused

having worked at a hospital for the last 9 years, I am sad to say that is definitely normal. If you have questions regarding anything about your surgery, you need to schedule an appointment with your surgeon in his office. The Pre-admission testing is for the facility to get all of your past medical history and to make sure there are no underlying health problems that you have.

    the NEW YOU and RELATIONSHIPS

If someone truly loves you, they will love you no matter what, unconditionally...So what if you've gained weight. Does this mean that after they've had their "2 minutes" and have satisfied themselves and not us, that we can humiliate them on their horrible performance? --Give me a break!!!
  12. I think you are doing great on your own with your weight loss. Everyone has a problem with "portion" size. Since you have "mentally" figured that one out, you are one step ahead of the game. And remember, the more weight that comes off, the better you feel and the more you do. As for the hospital, that is not professional at all...but in their defense, hospitals see thousands of patients, have YOU contacted the hospital to find out what was taking so long. I hate to admit it, but sometimes you just fall through the cracks. I wish you all the best luck in the world about what you ultimately decide. Weight gain/loss is a very hard road for everyone.
  13. Great thread, by the way... -having to buy HUGE underwear...looking forward to thongs only!!! -hating myself and my lack of self-esteem... -definitely won't miss the "pretty face" remark. -only the OLD AND creepy guys eyeing me...looking forward to all of the sexy ones wanting me again...and making all of the females in the room envious of me. -being too tired to clean my house and play with my kids. -being the shocker of the reunion that I got fat and no one wanting to bring it up but says wow Jamel, you look so different...uh... did you change your...uh...hair...(I can only imagine what they are actually thinking...) -Definitely the tummy smile...!!! --Thanks for that one by the way. -my own current reflection in ANY mirror. -not only my clothes sizes growing constantly but my shoe size also. -my breasts hanging to my waist. -my booty looking like "two huge hamhocks...". -my twin...(seeing as how I am more than double my "ideal" weight).
  14. Why were you originally denied though?

    Surgery In 5 Days!!

That is the question of the ages!!! I am going through the exact same thing...I was supposed to have my surgery back in January (21st) and prayed and pondered if this is not the right thing for me, give me a sign...My surgery was scheduled for a Monday. Saturday I was doing my "last minute cleaning" and ended up getting a scratch on my eye from the Carpet Cleaner solution (got a patch on my eye and everything--It was lovely!!) and on Sunday Morning my surgeon (himself) called me from his cell phone to tell me he was stuck out of town and would need to reschedule... Was that a sign??? I took a month to really re-think my whole reason of WHY I wanted to have the surgery and why I had gained all this weight to begin with... I talked to everyone I know and people I don't know about what their opinion was, etc...and finally came to the conclusion that this was something I needed to really do, because I felt like I needed a tool to help me to do it...Rescheduled my surgery for March 21st...Spring break here...My boss wanted to be off that week and told me he would rather me wait until after that... I only work 4 days a week so on Friday I was set for surgery... The Saturday before my surgery, my 2 yr old started running a high fever, ended up having a seizure...had a small cough and runny nose. The Wednesday before my surgery, I get the FLU!!! So it was cancelled again... Is this also a sign? Should I try again? Should I try the "after surgery" diet for several months? I have no clue what to do...Would you try the after surgery diet before? My only concern is that I won't lose a significant amount of weight and then have the surgery and be tired of the diet... I can't really answer that question for you...I can just let you know that you are NOT the only one going through it...Sorry...

    Help,anyone?

All I can say is persistance pays!!! Our insurance did not cover it either, but I went back and forth with our benefits department until I got what I wanted. It is now approved. I started in March of last year and it got approved back in September to be on the 01/01/08 Benefits package for us. Believe me, when I started my journey, I was told by SEVERAL people that the Lap-Band was something our company would not be considering for a long time...NEVER GIVE UP...Always fight for what you believe in!!!

    Alli ?

That's great that you have lost so much weight so fast. Did you have any fears pre-op? I weigh 280 and am 5'1". I am so scared that the band won't work for me...

    Had a panic attack

Wow...if that doesn't hit close to home...I have been approved for the surgery and was supposed to have it back in January...I was SO nervous...I had pondered, prayed and asked everyone (family, friends, my psych) under the sun if I was doing the right thing...My surgery was scheduled for Monday and on Saturday, I ended up getting carpet cleaner in my eye and scratching my eye and then on Sunday, my surgeon called me and told me he was stuck out of town and would not be able to perform my surgery on Monday so I took that as maybe, these are signs that I am NOT meant to have this surgery... I took a month to think and try to lose weight on my own and finally decided it was probably just my nerves...I decided to have the surgery again...I rescheduled it for March 21. The week of my surgery, my children and I all got the Flu... My biggest fear, is that I will have the surgery and it won't work for me...That I will still use food as a comfort. This is something I am really on the fence about. I wish I had an answer for you...but I can't even decide if this is what is meant for me...sorry...

    1 day till Band

Best of luck to you Mike!!! I am going to have my surgery in March.
  20. That was funny...Thanks. I have talked to my doctor in the past and he just looked at me like I was CRAZY!!! but that was long before I ever even thought about surgery.--Thanks, I will ask my surgeon.
  21. Has anyone had problems with irregular (going from constipation to diarrhea) bowel movements pre-op that got worse or did not improve after surgery. I have always been irregular no matter what I eat, whether I'm taking laxatives, etc. I seem to go from one extreme to the other and I'm just wondering if I have the surgery then will it get worse, stay the same or get better?
  22. The gasses in the Carbonation expand your stomach. You are working against yourself if you drink any Carbonation drinks post surgery...
  23. I am 5'1" tall and weigh 280lbs. My goal weight is 130. I have gone through all of the weigh ins and even got it added to our insurance and was approved to have the surgery and was scheduled to have the surgery on January 21st. I started having 2nd thoughts and was praying that if this wasn't the right thing to do then show me a sign. My surgeon called me from his cell phone on the Sunday morning before my surgery and told me he was stuck out of town and we would have to reschedule it so of course this really scared me. My concern is the fact that I've had 5 (FIVE) major abdominal surgeries in the last 8 years and I'm concerned about scarring and just the fact of having another surgical procedure. I've had 2 C-Sections (first one emergent), 2 Hernias (1 right inguinal and the other an incisional hernia), and my Gallbladder removed. Has anyone else had several surgeries and still had the procedure?
  24. I did end up talking to my surgeon yesterday and he did tell me that my previous surgeries were lower abdomen where my band will be upper abdomen. I think I have just been having a lot of "pre-wedding jitters" because, I have worked so hard to get this done, and now that the time is here, I just keep thinking OH NO WHAT IF IT DOESN'T WORK!!! I have a HUGE FEAR of failure...but I am over my jitters and having checked all of the ups/downs everyone is having, I do see that it is the best thing for me and I know that in the end it will all be worth it...Thanks so much for helping everyone and I will definitely keep you all up to date.
  25. lol. Sorry, I was not more specific but I'm not worried about the scarring on the outside. I look like a jigsaw puzzle. I'm more worried about the scarring on the inside with all of the tissue and and the possibility of my other organs being fused together. I work at a hospital and I know the increased risks of having multiple surgeries. My surgeon said I would be "tough"...I guess with my previous surgeries. I am just totally on the fence. This is something I've wanted to do since 05. I said if there was something not as complex as the gastric, then I would have it done. That is the lap-band, but I am terrified at the fact of having yet another surgery, but I feel like the thought of losing 150 pounds on my own without the surgery is almost unreachable. Does anyone else feel like this?
