Dr. Atul Madan - Has anyone if he is a good dr.
CCDC74 replied to Melissa1129's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Just remember he is working on very high risk patients. Dr. Madan is a wonder doctor but some things are out of his hands. They should explain the risks to you. And ofcourse even if you are not over weight there is always a risk when having surgery. So, if he does have a death on his record, just remember he is working with very high risk patients, and doing a fantastic job with them. -
Dr. Atul Madan - Has anyone if he is a good dr.
CCDC74 replied to Melissa1129's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had Dr. Madan in Memphis. I highly recommend him. He is a very good doctor, extremely caring. I would still go to him if he were closer. But you will not beable to find a more knowledgable, caring doctor than Dr. Madan. -
If you are a few days out of surgery and white tongue you may be looking at thrush...this happens from the anibotics and sometimes needs another medication to help clear that up.

No, I just kept resubmitting the request. I also called every day the insurance company was open and spoke to them. During this time I had to go to the hospital with problems with my knee, and told them if I had to have surgery on my knee because they did not approve my lapband that I was going to sue them for the pain and suffering I had been through waiting for them. Hang in there!!! I was the first one at my Dr.'s office to be approved by BCBS.

I went through four appeals before being approved. So just hang in there, and keep calling the insurance company every day!!!

band over half full and still little restriction
CCDC74 replied to rorysmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Tell her just to hang in there. I have a 5cc band and it took 4.8cc to reach the right restriction. this is my second band, the first one I could not tolerate more than 2cc. So each person and each band differs. -
Migraine or headache, how do you you tell the difference?
CCDC74 replied to Constance's topic in The Lounge
I have had migraines for 30 years or more now. I have found the best thing over the counter for the migraine is BC powders. It comes in like a gum wrapper and you pour it on you tongue and wash it down with a drink. If it is migraines you need to be off of caffeine. If you are not using caffeine then drinking some tea or coffee will help relieve the migraine a little. Since my hysterectomy the migraines are not near as severe. Good Luck -
just diagnosed with Esophageal Dysmotility

Wendy, I had reflux so bad for a year, it was causing me to run a fever every second or third day. I seen two different Infectious Diease doctor and after a year of couching at night, and throwing-up reflux every night they found out I had a hiatial hernia. They did the surgery to repair it and I am doing great now. They took all the fuild out of the band while testing me for everything and I gained back some weight but now I am losing again and doing great. Have them check you for a hiatial hernia. They were not able to tell how big it was until they went in to repair it. THis was a very servere case, causing me to run a fever that was around 103 every two to three days, but just for a day. THis was my bodies way of fighting off pneumonia, from the reflux getting into my lungs. -
Does Lap-Band help with emotional eating?
CCDC74 replied to SarahinTyler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think this will help you with your emotional eating...before being banded I would grab a sandwich and eat it on the go, not any more. I have to take my time eating or it will come back up. You will have to take small bite and chew, and chew, and chew. All that chewing that you will be doing will help with the emotional side of eating. I have went from a size 22-24 to a size 8. It has not been an easy journey, but I would take it again in a minute. Hang in there, you will find it will be well worth it.:tea: -
My total out of pocket was $512, but I had another insurance and it picked that up.
-
Just keep on fighting with BC/BS. I had to go through 4 appeals before I was approved, the Doctor said I was the first BC/BS that had approved the LB surgery. I call the insurance every day they were open...Just keep on them!
-
Dr. Pleatman, I did have it checked...it was a hiatial hernia and now it is fixed! She may be coughing up blood but mine was reflux and it was bad enough that I would throw-up from it, which also caused me to run a fever of 102 every two to three days. Once the hernia was fixed I have not coughed up any black stuff and no more fevers.
-
This could be reflux. I had a very similar thing cause by a hiatial hernia. Any time I laid down I would start coughing and throw-up black stuff (reflux).

I understand the hestiation of have an unfill. I am at 4.75cc in the small band. Until the last fill I was not losing weight. Since March I have lost 30 pounds but am unable to tolerate solid food at all. And even liquid I have to sip. I really worry about getting some taken out because I still need to lose another 45 pounds, and afraid I will start gaining if I have some taken out. If I'm not hurting anything throwing-up I will continue doing that to get the rest of the weight off. To date I have lost 91 pounds.

Sorry you have been sick, but it is not from the band. The problem is the weight loss and your body trying to get use to that. My Dr. tells me to eat mostly protein and yes grilled chicken. I would not go to McDonalds or subway. I eat mostly protein and will take a bite or two of salad or baked potato. You still need to eat healthy. You may even want to try a protein shake fro breakfast, a low carb like Adkins there pretty good. Get some vitamins and hang in there!

Sorry to hear about your band Shanna. Mine slipped and the had to remove it, put they replaced it at the same time with a new one. Maybe they will be able to give you a new one.

BC Powders...Works wonders!
-
How are things going? I can relate to your problems. I have have the port to leak and the band to slip. Sometimes it is very discouraging, but we have come to far to look back now. Good luck!

I go to Dr. Madan in Memphis, he is a fantastic doctor.

How much time did you take off of work?
CCDC74 replied to Firecallie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work on Saturday. I am an accountant so I do a lot of paper work. Just be careful haw you reach and reacxh for things. -
Just remember you are defeating the whole purpose of the band if you drink the soda's. The carbonation in the soda's cause the stomach to expand, even if you do not a band, it will expand your stomach. I turned away from the soda's over two years now...and I's still alive. YOU CAN DO IT!
-
The main reason for not drinking carbonated beverages is that it will expand your stomach...which that is what the band is trying to stop!
