I've been thinking about you today, LJM. I hope everything is going great and I can't wait to hear about Joshua!

Just alittle nervous, need some support
JaimeSTL replied to brubear's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I also got pregnant at 7 months post-op. I'm now 18 weeks and still have my whole fill. I have about 7.5 cc in a 14 cc band. I didn't have any morning sickness and I am able to eat plenty, so my doctor isn't going to remove any of my fill unless he has to. In his other post-op pregnant patients, he has never done an unfill, so I'm hoping to be the same way. It all depends on you and your individual level of restriction. I think the fact that I prefer my band on the loose side has helped. -
Isn't that crazy? When I was in the hospital, my bp was routinely like 90/50, 100/55, crazy low. They were like, don't you have pre-eclampsia? Duh, I'm on 24 hour a day bedrest, only getting up to pee and shower. I've had two inductions. My first was induced at 36 weeks, started with Cervadil to soften the cervix, then Pitocin. Total labor time was approximately 30 hours. Second, induced at 33 weeks, emergency induction so everything was very rushed and I had way more Pitocin than is normally given, Water broken very early. I also started at about 2-3 cm because I'd gone into pre-term labor at 32 weeks, but it stopped. Total labor time was about 8 hours.

band doc an integral part of pregnancy?
JaimeSTL replied to hope2bhealthy's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I've seen my band doctor and his nutritionist twice since I got pregnant. I will see the doctor every 6 weeks or so for the duration of the pregnancy. First they needed to make sure I wasn't too tight to get down enough food, which I'm not. I have not had an unfill yet. However, it seems that each week that passes I get just a little tighter and eat less (which is good because I was eating way too much). So I think eventually I will need a small unfill. My doctor said he hasn't had to unfill any of his other patients who have gotten pregnant at all. Maybe I'm wrong and I won't need one. We'll see. I would recommend seeing your doctor and letting him know you are pregnant and be prepared for an unfill should you get too tight. I know some of the others got too tight really early in pregnancy so it can happen. -
I finally got to watch last night's episode. I was so mad that Joelle went above the yellow line. Ugh. She will be gone soon enough. I was sad to see Jerry go home, but him and his wife both look great! That was amazing!

I'm around, sort of. I don't feel like I have much to add to the conversation right now. I'm having a hard time because I'm gaining weight, which my OB doesn't really want me to do and says is "excessive". I've gained about 10-12 lbs since I got pregnant. I am hungry all the time, my surgeon won't even think about a fill, and I'm just having a hard time making good choices. I'm trying to find things that will fill me up longer. So far today, I've had a better day than I have in a long time. I know the weight will come off after the baby but because of my past problems, I have to really watch how much I gain and it is really hard on my emotional health to see the scale going back up after all my hard work. Plus, with my other two kids, I gained 19 lbs with #1 and none with #2, so to have gained 10-12 lbs at only 16 weeks is a bit of a shocker. Most people keep telling me that I'm gaining for a good cause, I have to gain, etc., but with my experiences before and my history of complications, I feel like I shouldn't have to gain and it is a weakness that I am. I'm kind of an emotional wreck lately. I wish I didn't even have to know how much I weigh right now.

Bedrest was awful. My DS was between 15-18 mos at the time. It was very hard for me to stay on complete bedrest. I mostly watched tv, played with my DS lying down, and played around on the computer. I spent a week in the hospital on strict bedrest and I mostly slept and watched tv. I had no visitors because nobody could stand me (I was a complete bitch but I was just freaking out because I had nobody to watch my DS). It sucked and I'm praying so hard that I don't end up in that position this time. With my DS, my pressure went up around 32 weeks, spent a couple of days in the hospital at 33 weeks then went home. I laid around and rested and was induced at 36 1/2 weeks. It's so much easier when it's your first.

Pregnant and Banded...come join me!

I've started having port pain in the last few days. I'm 15 1/2 weeks. -
Hang in there, LJM. I know how much bedrest sucks. I was on full bedrest for um, 12 weeks or so with my second (also for pre-eclampsia). But it works and the longer you can stay pregnant, the better. Two and a half weeks will be over before you know it.

I thought some of them posted really pathetic numbers for their size, especially compared to the losses of some other competitors. DH has never really watched TBL with me so he was shocked by how mean Bob and Jillian can be. He was like, WHY do these people do this to themselves? Uh, money? LOL I love to see their transformations, it is always so amazing. But then I also wonder how many will gain it back because the lifestyle at the house just isn't realistic, IMO.

Pregnancy Hunger - Is this normal???
JaimeSTL replied to HeatherO's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I've been like that throughout each of my pregnancies. It seems like almost every night when I'm almost off work, I think, oh good I'm not hungry yet. By the time I'm ready to leave work, I'm starving and can't wait to eat. It's crazy. I was like this with my other two kids, so I think it is just a pregnancy thing. -
Congratulations! You've done a great job!

Thanks! We're getting pretty excited. :huh2:

I've been craving cereal too. Lately it has been Reese's Puffs. I love that stuff. LOL Otherwise, I'm craving chicken and orange juice. I rarely drank orange juice before and now I can't get enough. With my older kids, I craved cheese and meat with one and slushies from Sonic with the other. LOL -
In that case, I bet you did ovulate late and your due date by ultrasound is more accurate. It isn't foolproof because I've known other women who got a positive late, but with that plus the ultrasound, I'd say that's the case for you.

PCOS & the Lap Band?
JaimeSTL replied to karenandrews's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With my first, we tried for two years, used Clomid and inseminations and conceived once but it was a chemical pregnancy. I was on Clomid alone for 3 months without even ovulating, then added Metformin and Clomid and finally started ovulating. We took a break for a few months, with me just taking Metformin, and got pregnant. When my first was a year old, I started Metformin again because it had always helped with my weight. Within a month, I was pregnant again. My older two are 5 and 7 and we thought we were done. I never imagined I'd get pregnant without at least being on Metformin. -
OMG I almost choked on my yogurt. LMAO

Any problems with cpap machines
JaimeSTL replied to Banditto's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a new sleep study. My pulmonologist ordered a 2 week auto-titration study. The auto-titration machine automatically adjusts the pressure as needed and they were able to get readings off my smart card to determine what pressure setting I needed. They did it that way because they didn't think the apnea was completely gone and because insurance probably wouldn't pay for another sleep study less than a year after the last one. -
PCOS & the Lap Band?
JaimeSTL replied to karenandrews's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have PCOS and I lost 105 lbs in the 7 months after surgery before getting pregnant in September. I didn't continue Metformin because my OB/GYN worried that it might cause blood sugar fluctuations with the smaller portions of food I could eat. I went from having horrible, constant bleeding due to the hormone imbalance of severe PCOS to having regular periods by summer time and even falling pregnant without Metformin (my other two children were conceived while on Metformin because I usually didn't ovulate without it). I worried that my PCOS might cause my weight loss to be slow, but surprisingly, it was quite the opposite. -
Yep, you're right. In the first and early second trimester, most babies grow at about the same rate. In the late second and third trimester, growth differentiates and is determined more by the baby's genetics and other factors. You can trust a 1st trimester ultrasound, but later ultrasound can vary by a lot. I had several ultrasounds at the end of both of my previous pregnancies. Two days before my son was born, the ultrasound said he was approximately 7.5 lbs. He was born at 6 lbs 3 ozs. With my daughter, ultrasound about 4 days before her birth put her at about 5.5 lbs, she was born at 4 lbs 5 ozs. Later size estimates are determined by head circumference, femur measurement and arm measurement. My kids have big heads. LOL Early dating ultrasound uses head to rump measurement, making it much more accurate.

Ultrasound dating is generally very accurate early in pregnancy. However, even if they mismeasure just by a tiny bit, it can give a big difference in your due date. I'm 12 weeks 4 days, with my third baby. My uterus is already up almost to my belly button. Things tend to stretch out a little faster with subsequent babies. You also tend to feel movement sooner. The 16 week thing isn't set in stone. Several women on my due date list, who are between 12 and 16 weeks, are feeling movement already. To have a difference of 11 days between LMP due date and ultrasound date, you would've ovulated on day 25 of your cycle and would've had a 37-39 day cycle. Is that typical for you? Will you have another ultrasound? Maybe that will clear things up and help you figure out which due date is accurate.

Any problems with cpap machines
JaimeSTL replied to Banditto's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started cpap about 4 months before my surgery. I was told to bring my machine to the hospital and to use it as prescribed after surgery. However, as I lost weight, there was too much pressure and too much air so it was filling my stomach with air. I saw my pulmonologist, who tweaked my settings (I went from 15 down to 6) and I've been fine since. Make sure you let your pulmonologist know if you start waking more at night or feeling tired--too much pressure will keep you awake just as having apnea episodes will. -

Banded & Hoping to get Preg - join in!
JaimeSTL replied to eejaydiva's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
My due date (June 26) was also determined by ultrasound. That's all my doctor goes by because of late ovulations and stuff. When I got pregnant with my DD, I hadn't had a period since early May, found out I was pregnant in late July. I hadn't thought anything of no period because I have PCOS and never had them spontaneously. I could've been anywhere from like 4-12 weeks. I was 5 1/2 weeks by ultrasound so I came up with an LMP that corresponded because that's what you're always asked. I'd go by the ultrasound due date because if you ovulated late, they might think you are overdue when you aren't actually due yet. It allows the baby more time to cook. -
Morning Sickness..or lack thereof
