Tricare, ONLY 100lbs over wt w/ comorbidity

Hi I have not been on the list for a while because Dr Stewart and I decided to go with rny instead of the lapband. I had surgery on june 2 and am doing great. As to Tricare I had to provide med records from my Doc and have either sleep Apenia, high blood pressure uncontroled with medication, or diabeties. Because I turned 65 in May my status changed to Medicare primary and Tricare secondary. I hope this helps someone. warm regards Linda

    medicare approval

Good Morning Karen, Thanks for the support! I have a record of several diets that my doctor included in her letter of Necessity. It appears that I do not need to have a 6 month period, no one has mentioned it and they made me a appointment for May 1 however said if we got all the requred documents in they would cancel it and make sugery date. Please lord that will be it!! Anyone else have any experience with this? My daughter-in-law's mother had the surgery in Jan with medicare and it went thourgh with no problem in about a month. She has lost 25 lbs so far!

    medicare approval

I have Tricare now and will be on Medicare on May 1. I have finished all the pre op stuff, waiting for the last 2 reports to be faxed to surgeon's office. Dr Stewart said that Medicare is much easier to get approval that Tricare so am shotting for first of May for surgery. My bmi is 32, however I have sleep apnea, high bp high cholesterol, osteoporosis, degenerative arthritis, gerds, fibromilga. On 9 Rx's, he says it should go thru with no problem sure hope so. Thanks Linda

A place for bandsters in their 60's

Hi ladies & PATCHELTON Well went to the seminar and learned a lot. I have a consultion on Tuesday 3-4-08. I gave my paperwork to them at the sem so hope they will have something to tell me I have been told the age thing should not be a problem. If Tricare accepts my 35 bmi with my co-morbidites i hope they will schedule before May when i go on Medicare. I fear I will have to start over since than Medicare will be primary. Who is your insurance with? Patchelton did you have any problems with them?? Thanks for sharing. Warm Regards Linda

Question about Tri Care Standard and WLS

Hi Mel I too am just getting started with the lapband process with Tricare. What has amazed me is how quickly they have procced with the process. I called my Dr when I found out that Tricare was now approving the Lap Band. The next moring Tricare called me! They said they were doing freestanding weightloss surgery centers if I was near enough to one of them. The nearest to me is Wictha Falls, TX about 90 miles. When I mentioned that it was a ways she immedatily approved the provider I had found in my area. (only to discover the next day that he was approved but did not have an approved operationing facility!?? Anyway I called Tricare back right away with Dr Daryl Stewart Md in Denton TX They not only approved him but faxed the referral while I was still on the phone! Sure hope the rest of the process goes at least halfway as smooth!. You might call Tricare and talk to them they may have a new w/l center near you. Good Luck! Linda

Tricare, ONLY 100lbs over wt w/ comorbidity

My primary has made the referral and Tricare called me the next day and approved the referral! Yea! I hope that is a good sign I am going to the seminar on Feb 19 and than I hope I will find out if I will be approved. I am just at bmi 35 at 5'4" and 205. I have this apple thing going on(sigh). I have several co-morbidities:High blood pressure, severe sleep apnea(w/cpap), ostoporsis, degenerative arthritis, gerds, high blood cholesterol. I am seeing Dr Daryl Steward, Denton TX. The option I am shooting for is the 75+lbs and above co-mor's. Does anyone have any advice? btw when Tricare recently went with approving the lapband they back dated the approval to Feb of 07. so it seems anyone who was with Tricare and self paid might have a case for some reinbursment? Thanks so much. Linda
