Tell the world if you feel comfortable doing so. Internet/online dating was once considered pathetic and now it has become a very acceptable and encourage practice. WLS should be the same and in time as word spreads, it will.

Hey Jeff,
What happened for me is they sent me a couple of medical questionaires that I had to fill out for them. Then I flew down on a Thursday. Went straight from the airport to Dr. Kuri's office and had the pre-op exams right then. You know blood work, weigh in, ekg, exam by a the doctor, etc etc. This is the pre-screening that Dr. Kuri does. If for some reason that you don't pass the pre-screening then your money is refundable and you would not be charged for the surgery. For the most part the only real reason to send you home is if your liver is not small enough to perform the surgery. So if they have you do a liver shrinking diet follow it to the T as this is the key.
My weight loss continues to go very well. 34 lbs lost since surgery with a 77 lbs total since my highest weight!

I contacted Dr. Kuri's office via email and was quickly inundated with emails from them. That was a little much. My question is, did you have to travel there for any pre-op testing or guidance? It strikes me as a little strange to show up for a surgery and that be the first time they meet you. I know with technology a lot can happen over the net and such. Was that the case. How is the weight loss going?

I enjoy wacthing your progress. I just started my pre-op classes. I am hoping my insurance approves the precedure. I am curious why you went to Mexico. It seems most insurance companies would cover it based on your history. I am a borderline case, so I am considering a self pay and if I do that I need to head south of the border for cost considerations. Thanks and I look forward to the PICS and progress.

Thanks for the reply. My concern is that I am a bordenline candidate. My BMI is 37 with some health concerns and issues but also a lot of family health history to think about and prevent. I know that in time, my BMI will hit the 40 mark and I hope my health doesn't get worse, but I know it will just based on my family.

I have UnitedHealthcare and set to begin my 6 month pre-op classes this week. Has anyone had good or bad experences with United Healthcare approving the surgery, also any advice for the first class? Thanks

Thanks, I may end up being a self pay patient. Do you mind telling we what it cost? I will be attending a seminar next week at Mcgee, but I am not expecting them to talk about self pay cost. I have family in Harrisburg and could easily spend a few days there if needed and make the various day trips if the price was too attractive to pass up.

That price seems great. I am waiting to hear from my Ins. Co., but I am not to hopeful due to my borderline position. Did they offer any partial financing? Sorry, I am no help with your other questions, but am looking forward to seeing what the relpies are. Thanks

I am considering the Lap Band. Any information would be great. I have read a great deal about it, but have not heard from actual patients. I am curious about the requirements, costs and after effects. I currently have a BMI of 36. I know this is low compared to some, but I have current health issues that will likely get worse and some family history issues that are not good. I am only 41, but have spent most of thoses years struggling with my weight. I know in a few years, things will not get better, so I am thinking of taking a preemptive position before I am put in the position to attempt to reverse medical issues, such as diabeties. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks
