  1. I know the feeling. I was banded in 2008 and was doing real good-lost 60 pounds. Then I started w/ throwing up every time I ate. The toliet was my best friend (haha). I went back to the surgeon who heldoff fillking for 3/m. He then sent me to a gastroenterologist who0 scoped me and really tried to get to the bottom of the problem-tried gastric emptying test x 2 but unable to keep the food dowwn. Gastro put me on reglan medication. My primary kept telling me it was "diabetic relaed". For 9/m I went thru this and believe me, I was losing the wqeight to the point of being severly underweight. I started to get severe pains in the stomach and mid back and went to the emergency room. A cat scan was done and the band slipped and had caused a total blockage in the stomach to the extent that the surgeon said my stomach was w/in hyours of rupturing. The band was removed. The surgeon said I coulod have it replaced if I gained 25pounds back b/c the insurance rules have changed for diabetics. PLEASE EVERYONE IF YOU ARE THROWING UP AFTER YOU EAT JUST ASK YOUR SURG TO DO A CAT SCAN W/ CONTRAST TO CHECK THE POSITION OF THE BAND..IT MAY SAVE YU FROM GOING THRU WHAT I WENT THRU.
  2. I was banded 5/13/08.Everything has been going great. Friday morning I stretched across my bed to grab the tv remote to turn on the tv and I felt a really sharp pain in port area. Now its hurting just like when I first had the surgery and its painful to move, lay down or get up or to walk. I am nervious that I may have pulled the port or that it tore the muscle that it is attached to.There is a large swelling all around the port location which is very painful to the touch. Will be calling the Dr on Monday if its doesn't subside.Any suggestions on what I may have done.

Broths such as consumee, soups which you can strain and just drink the broth.Teas/coffee (iced npw that its summer)Apple sauce, stage 2 baby foods. Anything soft and mushey. The second week I was ableto have mashed potatoes real thin and mac cheese which the mac was over cooked and real soft. Good luck

    Hello

Hi Lynda.. Best of luck on your surgery, and the start of a whole new you. Its scarey at first, but remember you are doing this for yourself and a healthier life. You'll get plenty of great advise on this website, as practically everyone has been thru this. I was done May 13,2008 and have lost 34 pounds already. Barb
  5. I was just banded on 5/13/08 and Dr.Artuso did my surgery. I am very pleased w/ him and so far have had good experience w/ the proceedure. Ilivein Pok and had it done at SFH andthe experience was very positive there. Just make sure that you request to stay overnight, you will benefit from that. Good luck
  6. If your pcp still will not give the ok for your surgery, try contacting the insurance company and explain to them what your pcp is doing. If you have multiple health issues that will benefit by having the surgery, explain that to the insurance company. Get documentation from your record at the pcp office to back everything up. If yopu can prove a point to the insurance company they may ok the surg w/out the pcp approval. You can also, try your gyn dr who might go for bat for you and clear you. Ask the bariatric surgeon to refer you to another pcp that is more willing to asist you. If your present pcp won't help you get another.
  7. Hi everyone. I just had my lapband done 1 wk ago. 5/13/08. I know others whohave had it done and none of them seem to have much pain after the first few days. I'm going on day 8 and still taking vicodin. I have little energy. I have lost 17 lbs already..is that to much for the first wk? I have little deisre for food and really can look at the food but it just doesnt' faze me. Most of the pain is in the middle of my stomach. Please advise, as Ihave told the nurse yesterday but she didn't seem to concern
  8. Hi.. I have an appt next month to see the surgeon about the lapband. I have a few concerns.Could someone answer a few questions, as the best ones to get the answeres from are from someone who experienced it. I read where you cannont eat anything but liquids for the first month. Being a severe diabetic,on insulin, and one who can crash very easy, I am concerned about that. My dr just said, we would deal w/ that if a problem ocurs. I also have servere GERD/hiatial hernia/ do they usually fix the hiatial hernia while they are inside placing the band People I know have had lap band and they seem to be able to eat most everything , except in small moderation,so Iknow Iwill be ok once Iget to eat again, but its the 4 weeks w/out food that Iam scared of.
