How much are you able to consume at one time? Is it possible you are mistaking pain or air bubbles for hunger? If I had consumed even half of that at 5 days out I would have been stuffed. Are you hungry for FOOD, or in general?

It's called head hunger. You'll be alright, you're body is in pain so you're pain wants food to comfort it- all in your head. Just stick to your protein and liquids.
  3. Monday will be the day I will be able to eat puréed/soft foods! I live in the country and my gramma is taking me to the city for my dr appointment. Now, what do I wanna eat for my first real food in a month!? I know I can't eat a lot! Mashed potatoes? Refried beans? ???? so many options. Had anyone in this phase had trouble getting any foods down? Or foods they thought were really easy to eat?

    Monday I can EAT!

My mom makes mashed cauliflower at least once a week! You can switch it up by seasoning it differently too, one day she will make it garlic and the next she will throw some squash in the mix to make it sweet. Also! Fun fact! Google cauliflower recipes, you can make roll it out with wheat flour and make fake bread or with Parmesan cheese and pretend it's pizza crust. Very versatile! Also, I see a lot of bariatric sites making cauliflower Mac and cheese, with no noodles- omg I'm going to be all over that when I can hahah.

    I can EAT!

Also, I see on a lot of boards that people think purée is like straight up liquid food, they were putting scrambled eggs in a blender with milk and making it drinkable, I was like no no no that's not what they meant! They want is just soft food, like oatmeal consistency lol. You wouldn't even need to purée tuna and egg salad and stuff, it's already mushy.

    I can EAT!

Thanks everyone! I found the ricotta bake- sounds delicious! I was weary about puréeing meals as well, I think I'll stick with chicken salad, egg salad, beans, meatloaf, shredded chicken, oatmeal, and that. Some people straight up throw pizza or a steak in the blender but I am going the other way lol.

@@chavezmommy I didn't think of that before! My parents were always working so 'fun' times for us would be late when my mama came home and she would make us desserts to make up for them never being there for dinner! We bonded while making cookies or mini pizzas out of English muffins. Food is definitely comfort. Look on groupon.com for big vacations but sometimes all you need can be as simple as renting a cabin for the weekend and exploring the area, we did that once and found a put put golf place and spend a lot of time outside at the cabin, it was one of our best family vacations and it didn't break the bank. @@storibrown Thanks☺️❤️ keep me updated on your transition into soft foods!!!

    Pre op diet weight loss

I doubt they'd cancel it cause of that!!! As long as you lose at least 5# you'll be okay, but with only liquids in your body and such weight will fall off, most of mine was in the last 3 days. You got this, just stay strong! I had a coworker break down on day 4 and pig out at Applebee's lol.
  10. I don't know why, but I also read that in patients who got the sleeve they had a 76% higher success rate of keeping the weight off compared to the bypass, but patients with bypass did lose 8-15% of their weight loss faster. I think with some research and time you'll make the right decision for your body. Follow your gut ❤️ & hey, go over it with your surgeon if you wanna. Mine wanted me to get the bypass and I told him my research and concerns and he agreed that the sleeve would be safer and everything long term but it have to gamble on the whole reflux thing, & I have no regrets ????

    Puréed stage diet question/help

Lisa, depending where you live try a Meijer or whole foods, maybe trader joes, for fat free humus. You probably have to go to a organic store. If it's fat like from an avocado you're fine. Also, puréed foods are still chewable. I know it seems like a weird thing. I work in a hospital and when people have belly issues or swallowing issues we give them puréed food, it's just like half-chewed already, it's like baby food! I see a lot of people post about it and they are over puréeing it, like a smoothie or straight up liquid. It should be a consistency of oatmeal. It's soft, you you still wanna chew it ya know? It should be a baby food or a little thicker consistency, like you took your plate of food and just mashed it all with your fork. Just find foods you like. Tuna fish & mayo, refried Beans & salsa, egg & avocado salad, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, mashed cauliflower, (those things dont even need to be puréed much at all)

    Puréed stage diet question/help

@@yerawizardamy Girl I'm so damn hungry drinking chicken sounds great. Lmao! The foods should be like baby food consistency, like refried beans, egg salad, finely chopped chicken salad, tuna & mayo, salsa, things like that. But you don't wanna actually drink it- chew it, lol. If you have Pinterest go in there and search bariatric purée diet or soft diet, a lot of great things come up! I put together a little menu from it. Look for things you like (:

    Puréed stage diet question/help

@@TodayItEnds that's great that you could tolerate the food! Some people have issues with the transition. I know when you first transition they want you to have it puréed so try not to get too cocky and upset your belly with real food! Eat things like scrambled eggs, chicken salad, tuna fish, refried beans. Google (or Pinterest of you have one) puréed diets! A lot of good meal ideas come up.
  14. Look on Pinterest for ideas! Just search bariatric diets or soft foods. I did hear people can have issues with hard boiled eggs! Especially if they are eating them plain! Good luck, & congrats!
  15. I was told the same thing about reflux and some other factors & stuck for the sleeve. They are going to do whatever you decide, and with 75 pounds I REALLLLY suggest the sleeve. I have had none of the complications they thought I would & they did give me meds to reduce acid in my stomach and honestly I haven't needed it. Go with your heart girl ❤️
  16. I heard blue shield is a rough insurance company to get approval through unless you have medical necessity. I started the process a year ago and then my Doctor, she's a whack, backed out a few months in. I switched doctors and had the surgery 6 months later! If is meant to be, it will be. Just make sure you're giving it your all.

    Pre op diet weight loss

I lost 18 lbs on the liquid pre op diet. When I weighed in the nurse said "good job baby, some people weigh in 5 pounds less and I'm like c'mon you totally didn't do liquids for 10 days". You should lose around 1 pound a day.
  18. I was 280 and I got the sleeve. Now, if we are talking you are 400 or more pounds, than the bypass probably is the best for you. Personally, I had the sleeve almost two weeks ago & am down to 250. My Dr pushed me towards the bypass a bit but after research I was 100% sleeve. The sleeve has soooo many less complications. With the sleeve you are 100% capable of keeping up in vitamins and such but with the bypass you're guaranteed to be deficient- they are literally bypassing a section of your intestine, so you can't absorb as much fat, but you can't absorb as much as protein and nutrients either. It just seems like a rough time. I feel it's an extreme surgery, & they can't undo it and re route your intestines back to normal.

@@chavezmommy DO NOT DO IT. I thought way too many times about getting something, chewing it, spitting it out. Don't! For one, your body gets most satisfaction from swallowing. Secondly, you are way stronger than that girl! You got this! When I was really missing food like pasta and bread I posted on here about it and someone wrote me the most comforting post ( I'll post it as a quote it after this post!) you're body wants comfort food, it's scared. I also had a girl post about how she DID break down and eat, and it wasn't worth it. She said it wasn't even as good as it seemed to be before, you're mind is idealizing this cheeseburger to be more and more grand than it really is. You'll just be disappointed and upset with yourself. Anyways, don't do it! You've come too far! It's just a little head hunger ???? You got this!

@@storibrown I'm 2 weeks post! Congratulations on this chapter of your life girl!! I have the cold feet issue as well! It's cause we are losing weight! fuzzy socks are my new bff. I had the arms falling asleep issue in the hospital but not since I've been home, I just laid on back until recently I can lay on my side (: I find I don't feel hungry at all if I sip protein shake all day instead of just at meal times. I only had pain when fluids hit my stomach if they were too hot or too cold. Walk walk walk walk, walking will get all the air/gas out and that shoulder pain will go away. I started at 280 and today I hit 250!! I'm so happy! & Monday I can start puréed food ????
  23. I had surgery Jan25 & I keep thinking to myself, "what have I done" I hurt so bad, I can only consumes liquids spoonfuls at a time, & I don't even want them. Im sick of soup and protein shakes. It takes me the entire day to finish a protein drink. I'm craving bread.. Omg bread, when will I ever eat bread again? And pasta!? ???? There are parts of my day that I feel like I screwed up, like maybe I'm just not meant to be in shape and healthy. It's like I have post-surgical depression, I'm just miserable. ????

    What have I done?

Ugh! My family made homemade spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner tonight ???????? WHY!? It's meals like this that test my faith..
  25. kristennichole

    What have I done?

I am feeling much better now! Few things I wanna address from comments people have made 1. WALK! I swear it's a HUGE difference once you walk enough to pass the gas that's in your belly from surgery 2. I'm 8 days out & starting to feel human again. 3. Get your Protein and fluids in- YES it takes ALLLL DAY to do. First month of surgery is optimal weight loss, if you don't give your body protein it will just go into starve mode and you won't lose anything. *Progress update: I was 274 before liquid diet, weighed 254 today!
