Mine also involved my daughter.....she and my best friend took me for coffee at Starbucks....and both of them, with tears in their eyes, said "We can't live without you.....and we're just worried about your health." I had been apprehensive to bring it up with my husband because of the cost (self pay), but he immediately said, "It's only money...we'll make more." It is a big deal because I retired from my job two years ago and just working part time now....but we made it work. My family and friends mean everything to me....and I want to enjoy them for a long, long time.

Hiatal Hernia (?)
HarleyGirl replied to HarleyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've got an appointment on Friday and I'm going to stop in to the financial office and chat with them......we'll see what happens. My insurance company is usually pretty easy to work with, but they just happen to have an exclusion for WLS, so who knows what will happen....worth a shot, that's for sure. -
If the people were starving the children.......would you support intervention? Different side of the same coin, IMO..... I agree that the foster care system has enough problems, but ignoring another one isn't the answer........fix the system, don't ignore the problems.

Last meal before liquid diet?
HarleyGirl replied to Needol's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We went to our favorite steak house and I had a big piece of prime rib....it was delicious. Even had appetizers and dessert, which we never do! I have no regrets and have done great on the pre-op and the week of post-op so far! -
Glad to hear you survived your first day back to work, T!!! Mine is tomorrow.....I'm a little worried, I work retail and I'm on my feet and on the go most of the day. Fortunately, I have the world's greatest co-workers and I know they'll take up the slack if I need to sit down for a bit.

Welcome, Paula! I'm a 3/18 girl, too!

I'm pretty lucky, I can't believe how tiny my incisions are....the only one close to my bra line is in the middle, so nothing rubs.....mine seem to be a little lower than some....my main incision is about at my waist..... I'm really impressed with my surgeons lines.....maybe she should have gone in to plastics!

That is why I have my daughter's password and check her profile, friends, messages and pictures fairly regularly....she knows I do....I know she's not entirely thrilled with it, but HEY, it's my JOB! BTW, I'm MySpace.com - Paige - 46 - Female - OGDEN, Utah - www.myspace.com/parrotheadpaige Like everyone else, just let me know you're from LBT!

WOO HOO! First time to put jeans on since my surgery.....I've been wearing stretch pants so I didn't bother the incisions, but figured I better try the jeans since it's back to work day tomorrow......and guess what.....they're LOOSE...and they weren't before!! I can't believe how well my incisions are healing....still a little bit of bruising, but they look like scratches....I couldn't be more pleased. The folks at Sports Illustrated will be delighted that they won't have to airbrush them out at the annual swimsuit shoot........HAHAHAHAHAHAHA....I crack myself up.

Absolutely....send the whole family to nutrition and exercise classes....but if the parents fail to comply....it would be no different than a parent that fails to comply with other training/counseling ordered in abuse cases. Abuse takes on many different forms.....

I was banded on the 18th also! Going back to work tomorrow............... Glad to here your recovery is going well!

Christine....everything will be just fine! We've blazed and leveled the trail.....so smooth roads lie ahead for you! I was told nothing over 10 pounds for the first two weeks, nothing over 20 for the next two weeks....... The nerves are understandable....it's a big deal to us....but once you get to the hospital, you'll realize how routine it is for them.....everyone knows thier job and just seems to get it done! I'll look forward to reading your somewhat groggy post about all the nerves for nothing!!

It's funny, because we do live in the city (well, by Utah standards anyway)......but there is pasture in back of our house and they have "grandfathered" the owner because the pasture was there before the zoning changed......He has three horses and a bunch of ducks back there.....I love listening to them.....except when they tease my dogs....then it's annoying!

HarleyGirl replied to SydneyLouWho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm five days post op...... broccoli cheese soup pureed to within an inch of it's life....... perhaps a vicodin for dessert........... -
You just got my 16 year old daughter's attention....that's for sure....and she says excellent taste in music as well!! CONGRATS!! Most impressive feat!

Can you name 1, or 2 things you would love to do once you reach your goal?

Go on a tropical vacation..... I've always wanted to go to Hawaii....lounge on the beach....but have never done it because I didn't want to be the fat chick on the lounge chair in the grandma bathing suit......... -
((((FENTON)))) It's a learning curve.....mark this one on your curve! It's what happens from here FORWARD that matters.......there are going to be those times for all of us, I'm sure! There are some "UP" sides to it....I'm sure you ate less than you usually would have......you learned something about yourself..... What EVIL BA$TARD slipped that under your door? We should hunt them down and make them PAY!!
-
I didn't put any on....but was not instructed specifically one way or the other...no one asked if I had any on.....

Happy Easter, Shamrocks..... do you suppose that it's Freudian that I typed that "Happy Eater" the first time?? Going to be a bit of a challenge today....I'm not cooking the "full on" Easter dinner that I usually do, but still making ham, sweet potatoes, salad.....my MIL pretty much counts on us for dinners, so I feel obligated to do it! Just one of many challenges to come down the pike! The good news is that the magically appearing +2 pounds from surgery disappeared and took two more with them! Down a total of 12 so far!

As long as you are using a narcotic pain medication AS DIRECTED and for pain, you won't get addicted....it's when you start tinkering with dosages and using it outside of the theraputic realm that you need to worry. I'm day five and very, very little pain today!!!!

Anyone not told kids about their lapband
HarleyGirl replied to angelface's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daughter, who is 15, has become one of my greatest sources of support, inspiration and love.....she's the one that says..."Let's go for a walk" or "Mom, you look so pretty today" or "I'm so proud of you" at just the right time. My weight frightened her.....she was afraid of losing me to another problem. She's a "normal" weight with no food issues and I think it's been good for her to see me finally work on getting this under control. -
how long in the hospital?
HarleyGirl replied to hope2bhealthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In at 6am, left at noon........I can't imagine what they would have done for me staying overnight that I couldn't do for myself or with my family's help at home. I was most grateful to be in my own bed with my own stuff! -
Pre-Band Eating Habits? HELP!
HarleyGirl replied to southerngirltx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have always been a grazer....snacker...power eater. Just knowing I have the band in place has given me such a sense of empowerment...... I KNOW that I will not have a perfect journey, but so far, it's been great......I love the new feeling of CONTROL...... -
Yes, yes...that is it COLT CURLS! They are much better than conventional curls as you have to contend with hooves and an angry mare! Last year, we were there right after the foal was born and got to watch it take it's first steps....hoping to do that again this year! Here's last year's baby:

Ahhhhhhhhhh.....it really feels like spring here, FINALLY! There is still one big clump of black, ugly snow in the front yard......but I suspect it will be gone by Monday! Did a lot of walking today....went to the grocery store....UGH....forgetting that Saturday is sample day AND root beer float day....the Special Olympics sells floats on Saturdays to raise money...hell, they'll probably go broke now! NOT REALLY, I still gave them them $2.....but the kid just didn't get why I didn't want the float! Then took a quick walk to the corner and back.....the neighbor's horse should foal any time, I keep hoping to catch it! Daughter and I took a spin around Sephora, too.....the SECOND happiest place on earth..... Feeling really good, if I could shake the shoulder pain....I would be pain-free! The heating pad helps when I'm sitting down, though! TMI Time.......haven't pooped since Tuesday.....I don't feel really cramped or bloated...I guess it's just because there's nothing there!! Still feel fairly satisfied on my 1/2 c. cream Soup or cream of wheat in the am, so that's good! All in all, so far, so freaking good!
