    Just wondering...

Welcome Twanda, You can post a thread asking for a Dr. in your area & you'll probably receive several references. I wouldn't worry about anyone saying weightloss surgery is an easy way out because it's far from it. The band is a tool you have to work with, nothing easy about it. If you feel in your heart the band is the right thing for you then you should go for it. My Doc. only required my PCP's medical records to verify that I've tried many attempts at diets & regained weight,it wasn't important to have his approval. Good luck

    4/23!!

Well it's 1 week & counting, starting to get a little nervous  but I just came back from the support group meeting tonight now I'm back to excited. Guess I'll just be glad when the surgery/recovery phase is over with. Anyway good luck to everyone & keep in touch.
  4. Finally, after all the form filling, consultations, evaluations, tests, & insurance approval I have a surgery date of April 23rd. I'm going to be one of the first ones to get the new realize band at this hospital. I really have a good feeling about this. I think that the lapband will be the tool I need to finally lose this weight & keep it off for good. It's hard to believe that I'm excited about a surgery but I can't wait to get started.:scared2:
  5. Hey Lora, I'm notreal sure how a buddy list works but we can be buddies & find out. Dr.de la Torre doesn't require a pre-op diet but I'm watching what I eat to a degree. I figure I'll have the rest of my life to lose the weight so there's no big hurry. Where is Mo. Bariatrics located? Keep in touch.

  6. Congrades Yyvone, I am also getting banded on the 23rd of April. Good luck & keep me posted on your journey. John

  8. I have a nose mask with a chin strap. I had a cough & waking up with a dry mouth & a co. rep. told me to turn up the heat & that helped. Just hang in there & you'll get used to it.

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

I got a booklet on the realize band & from what I get the fill goes all the way around the band & it's a softer balloon type material and the band itself is wider to keep from slipping. Also it has a low profile port. There's a website to register your weight loss for your Doc to monitor. Good luck Keep U posted

    Diabetic Bandsters?

Greetings, I'm getting banded on April-23rd & I also have type 2 diabetes. My nurse at my consultation said to watch my blood sugar very close after surgery because it drops considerably & I could become hypoglycemic.

    Getting to Know You questions

Hi, my name is John & I've been married for 28 years with 2 kids,3 grandchildren( one on the way) I live close to St. Louis Mo. & my surgery date is 4/23/08.
  15. They sure look great to me, the most exciting thing I've seen since I joined this forum
  16. I'm not banded yet but they told us at the support group you might lose hair from 3 to 6 months post op but you should start getting it back after that.

    Should I Do It?

That sounds like a very high percentage. It seems to me I read the national complication rate is in the single digits, maybe you can get some information in the complication section. Good luck
  18. April 23rd here. Dr. Roger de la Torre at DuPaul hospital in St. Louis Mo. No pre-op diet required but I'm starting my own this week. Can't wait to get this dog & pony show going. JohnC
  19. Welcome MeaQa, PM means private message
  20. Welcome Lora, Congrades on your surgery date. I'm also being banded by Dr. De La Torre but at DuPaul hospital in St. Louis on April-23. I met him for the 1st time on Wed. for my consultation. I've never had surgery before but I'm not too worried cause I've had nothing but glowing reports on Dr. De La Torre. Good luck with your surgery & keep intouch. John

  21. Thanks for the replies, I will keep everyone informed.

    Spouse Issues

NIKKII & CARRIE- My DW was dead set against the surgery at first, but she did some research on her own & she recently told me if everything goes well with me she may also have the surgery. So there's a good chance your DH's will come around eventually. Good luck to both of you SHELLI-Congrades on your success
  24. Hang in there Carrie, I thought it would be a drawn out affair also but it only took my insurance co. 5 days to approve me. Good luck in your journey
  25. Yeah, I've been approved by my insurance co. after only 1 week:thumbup:. But the only down side is their only going to be paying 75% :banghead:. This includes all related cost but the surgery alone is $20,000 leaving my co-pay $5,000 not counting the pre-op test & fills. I'm happy to be approved so quickly but the hospital has already said they want the co-pay before they'll do the surgery. I can probably get it from my 401k plan but I 'd have to pay a pretty big penalty. Just wondering if anyone else has had their insc. only pay part of the cost. . JohnC
