    Confused

I'm going for the lapband surgery. And what I have learned in all my research and talking to doctors they are both great procedures. I ask my doctor last week what percentage of his pratice is Lapband? And he replied 40% is now the lap band . He said becuse people are realizing that this is the most safest way to go. And he also told me that if I had a dr ever try to talk me into the other and not listen to me it would be a mistake, because it is each individuals decision what is best for them. I hope this helps with your decision.

    It's a big decision

I know where your coming from. I have been trying to get this surgery done since the fall of 2005. Then in Jan of 2006 I lost my job and insurance through workforce reduction. Took me 8 months to find a job and another 90 days to get insurance and now I'm starting the process again. I have Cigna now and I had BCBS before. The Staff at Team Baratrics are telling me our state (IN) has a 6 month medical/weight management you have to do in order to have this surgery with any insurance. So I'm looking at July/August before they even consider trying to get me approved. I'm not giving up. What is the average length of time a person goes through the whole process? Before I lost my insurance I had everything done except the approval. And at that time I think it was 12 months They said our law had changed. So hopefully these few months will fly and I can finally get a date. I have been veiwng this board for a long time and I thank every individual that has posted, You have given me great knowledge on what to expect, feelings , diet, exercise, recipes etc. I'm 5' 6", weight 292 lbs with a BMI of 49.1.
  7. I have been going to the Bariatric Center in Goshen , In. I started in 2005 and just when we were going for approval I lost my job/insurance because of workforce reduction. It took me 8 months to find a job and now I have insurance again and have started back to the center. They are saying in 5 months I should be ready to be banded if everything falls in place. I have been reading this board for a long time. I thank everyone of you that have post the good and the bad, so we new bee's can learn. Plus learn from our own selves when banded. I was just wondering if anyone had been banded in Goshen, IN. And if so what has been their experience. I'm excited and scared but I know it is something I have to do because nothing else has worked. I feel this is the safest way to go. I have the support of my family and friends. I am also looking forward to making new friends on this site.

    Stress Test, INS prereq's

Hello everyone. I've been reading this site for about a month now. I have learned alot from it plus searching other sites. I was wondering if any of you had your banding done in Goshen, IN at the Goshen Bariatric Center. I had contacted them and went to a seminar. Then I made up my mind this was the safest way for me to go. I had talked to my PCP and he said this way was much more safe and not so avasive. My first appt. was with a nurse who took my height, weight and BMI to see if I qualified for the band. She took all the information down and said with appproval I would be looking at around the first of the year for surgery. I go Nov. 1st and see the surgeon, nutritist and the exercise trainer. I will probably have to have a mental evaluation too. I just want to feel better and have a healthier life. They have ask me to keep a food log and a daily journal and bring it my next visit. And fill out the questionare for the surgeon. I truly do feel this is the safe way for me to go, Yes I know any surgery can have complications. Right now I'm fighting the weight, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, ulcers on my legs, knee and ankle pain. And my sugar is 115 right now . Which I don't think is bad but Dr.'s like to see double digits. I work a full time job and apart time one. (my husband had a kidney transplant 1996 doing well). My insurance is BCBS of Illionis. They will cover the WLS. But they do have guidelines. I am willing to wait it out and do what they say to get this done. I feel that I'm taking a worth while step to a healthier me. I deserve to to this for myself. I've taken care of eveyone else for a long time it is my turn now. I feel good about this. Thanks for letting me share this. Waiting to get approved: Age: 49 Weight: 281.5 Height: 5.5 BMI: 46.1
