LAP band to bypass....?
NaturalBeauty replied to casinocat74's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
[Dody]I should have stated that from my own personal experience in dealing with people who have had bypass surgery I've seen them all gain 3 years down the road and stretch out the pouch.] For me bypass was not an option. When I heard about the band, I did my homework and continued on until I found a doctor. It has been a slow process but now that I look back, I am so happy for every fall I've had with the band, I would do the band again. Dody--I know at least 6 people who have had the bypass surgery and only 1 has maintained her weight over the last 3+ years. Most of them are dealing with other health issues because of stretching their pouch and not really caring about themselves. I look at them and I wonder why they went through all that and then not do right. Most of them don't have energy and suffer with so many Vitamin deficiencies, but I still wish all of them the best and I try to talk to them about their decisions but it just doesn't register. Anyway, they added to my reasons for not considering the bypass surgery. My sister is having the bypass later this summer and I want to see her succeed more than anything but she just can't seam to change her way of thinking. She believes this surgery will be the cure to all and I'm trying to let her know that she must do her part. Anyway, just my opinion. -
Morning and Nitetime Severe Restriction!
NaturalBeauty replied to Terri-ific's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Terri, It sounds like you still have to much of a fill, you should contact your doctor and possibly get more saline taken out. When we are overfilled it causes acid reflux and that's what you are experiencing at night, believe me, I've been there and done both! It's not a pleasureable feeling and I have even chocked off my own spit-up during the night. If it's that time of the month for you, then we are more tighter and you should try warm liquids for a couple of days but it really sounds like you need to have more removed. You will feel a lot better once that happens. I hope this helps. -
Hey Gurly, It is so different for each one of us. I think the designer plays a factor in the clothing size. For me, I am a 14W in blouses, XL in skirts but a regular 16 or 2 piece suit is to big, but a 14 is not big enough (properly because of hips and butt). Jeans I am a regular 18 which is awesome to me because I have always worn a bigger size in jeans because of the hips & butt factor. I believe a 18M is somewhat like a 16W. The inches are always a little more in woman clothes so I am sure you are right about that one. Just look at some of the catelogs on line, they give measurements for plus and regular sizes. Congrats on your accomplishments!

Hi Josette, and welcome to the club. Because I self paid I didn't have time to have a lot of last meals but I did get my share in and they were yummy. I tell people all the time, whether they know I have the band or not that it's all in the mind. Just as Txblue_eyedqt said, it's retraining your mind to eat less. I still after all this time put to much food on my plate and end up throwing it away. I haven't learned to go for less when I am home. Now out, it's a different story for me, I am scared of PBing all over the place that I eat with caution and I normally ask for a carryout tray immediately. Anyway, good luck with the process and stay here with us. This is the best group of LapBander's out there!

What a great NSV Leatha_G, You have just given the rest of us the motivation to go on! By the way, I love your scripture Jeremiah 29:11, it get's me through on most days.

I am difinately with you Diane on the Hot Dog thing, your incident really scared me. I said I would never eat another hot dog after watching how they are made but after your post, I know I will never eat another one. Now the girl scout cookies may be a different story, I don't know if I can say for the rest of my life but I will say for the rest of this year!

I agree with you Kim, that was something to watch! I have never been a big McDonald's fan but I did love there breafast food. Since I've been banded I have had a hard time getting down any Mc'D's food and I am glad. I have difinately tried and have had to many PB episodes so I gave it up completely. If your band can handled it, go for it cause it will continue to be on your mind until you do. Good luck with fighting the craving!

Honors Page for GFG Club Members (And they ask if this works!) What a great page P'nut! Makes me want to hurry up and lose to the next level (70 gone forever). PMS'ing today but still a good day. I got up this morning and worked out with PT for 1 hour and did cardio for another 40 minutes. For breakfast I had a protein shake and DH is taking me out to dinner tonight. He says I look sexy:rockon: :banana So I'll take it. Today may be my only day to eat without as much restriction. I normally have a rough time the 2nd day after that time of the month. Anyway, looking forward to sending some quality time with hubby! Everyone have a great weekend!!!

So glad you are doing better Diane. I had been checking waiting on your reply. Here is another reason why I will never eat another hot dog! Best wishes on your recovery.

Hi Kimmy, I love that name, I use to be called Kimmy as a child and I hated it but now when I hear people call me that it brings a smile on my face. Anyway, my doctor is very liberal with fills but I am more cautious than they are, he tells me to come back in 2 weeks if I have no restriction but I usally wait for a month. If you are not lossing weight or pouncing back and forth with the same few pounds than I would ask to see my doctor. Fills are funny, some last a while and others only a few days, why? I don't know. I do know that restriction is good, and we must learn how to chew, chew and chew some more. Good Luck!

Not eating and drinking is a struggle for most of us, so this is what I do, I do not allow the waiter/waiteress to bring water and neither do I have it on the table while I am eating. Just out of habit we do things so don't make it so convient for yourself. You difinately needed your band to rest, you gave it to much in a day. After any PB episodes you must allow your band to rest. Take it slow, it will be alright. For me, fills are always a challenge. Usually up to 2/3 weeks after a fill I am very limited with what I can eat and then one day I wake up and I can eat things that have been a struggle. That's my sign for a fill. I usually wait 5/6 weeks in between fills. I waited over 2 months before getting my first fill so I feel like I'm behind on my weight lost but it's still been consistant and no weight gains since I was banded. That is a blessing for me all together. Stay encourage and try to follow the band rules. I know it's hard just from my own personal experience.

Gastric Bypass or Lap Band - can't decide
NaturalBeauty replied to Bella's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great topic! I think it's an individual choice. Please do the research because for me RnY Open or Laperscopic(sp?) was not an option. When I found out about the band I was so delighted. I may not lose the weight based on the governments chart but I will lose based on what I want and I am happy about that. All I can say is research, research and more research. Good luck! -
C-222 (-0 this week) But that's OK, I'd rather see no lost than to see a gain. After doing so well last week I new my body would fight the weight lose this week. Until the next time.

Diane, Please keep us informed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm here just tired as all get out, I need a serious nap:notagree. It's been a long weekend starting from Friday up until late yesterday evening. Natural Beauty

Leah68, I have had the same problem for awhile now and I have just been miserable. I know I have acid reflux but with the band it did get better but every evenings after going to bed, I would wake up coughing so hard that I couldn't breath. I had been faithful taking my Prevacid but it would only last for a short period of time. I believe allergies had a lot to do with also. Anyway, I said all that to say a girlfriend told me to try organic apple cider vinegar and it has been a wonder for me! I have been :notagree like a baby ever since. Since I started taking it my pressure has gone down and the acid reflux has been non existant. I don't endorse any product and neither am I a doctor but I do know what you have been going through. If you get a chance check out this website: www.bregg.com and read the information regarding the product. It's been a God send for me. Good luck!

Hey PhtoNut, Thanks for the concern but I am OK. Sometimes I get so busy at work that I forget to eat, which is no good for us bandisters. Then I have the roughest time getting food down. Anyway, I am trying to do better with that. When I was younger I could go on a diet and starve myself and the weight would fall off, well not any more. The band is making me do it the right way or I will not lose at all. I actually go see my fill doctor on Monday so I'll see what he says. He's very liberal with the fills but I've experienced having to much of a fill and it's no fun at all. Anyway, you are doing a great job with your band and with this board. :clap2: Keep up the good work!!

Wow is difinately the word!!! You have done a wonderful job:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: and I hope your father is coming along OK.
