Need Help-PCP says 30's are too young for WLS
Shamrockgirl60 replied to lovinglife's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I would change PCP's asap....get one who is more sympathetic and not so judgmental. I switched my PCP a few years ago and thank heavens I did. My old one probably wouldn't approve of lap band she was a skinny women who said things like "We must lose weight" "We must quit smoking"....I finally asked her what the "We" meant when it was 'ME". She was not amused. I changed right after that, quit smoking and now am losing weight, she does not work at the clinic where I go anymore I can see why. No warmth or bedside manner at all. I would like to find her and go give her a big "Raspberry" LOL LOL -
Thanks feeling better this morning. And I still managed to lose .4 lbs. this past week LOL Having my liquids today to give tummy a rest. I surely don't like PBing...it's awful. I will let the family eat the leftovers. I'll freeze some of it myself and then make turkey Soup. I love it it's thick and has tons of veggies in it and a little Pasta. More like a stew than soup.

Friday Morning Weigh In - 28th November 2008
Shamrockgirl60 replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I managed to make the 50 lbs. mark with just .4 pounds weight loss. Hey I am happy. I ate yesterday at 2:00 PM and everything was fine, small portions and I was satisfied. BUT at 8:00 PM I was hungry and decided to get a small plate with a small portion of white meat turkey, and spoonful of stuffing and squash and some whole berry cranberry sauce. I ate a bit too fast...dumb me and the stuffing got stuck and expanded...uggggg it hurt and I slimmed really bad and the stuffing came up. It wasn't like vomiting no dry heaves but it was disgusting. So.......I am learning my lesson to not eat fast when hungry. My third slimming episode in almost 4 months so not too bad. Today just liquids for me to settle my stomach. and no more stuffing ever at this point. -
Well I found out I can't eat stuffing....was fine during this afternoon's dinner, just ate some white meat and a spoonful ( I mean tablespoonful) of everything else. I ate slowly and was fine Had a very very small piece of apple pie, with nothing on it, no ice cream or whipped cream, and I left half the crust. Sooooo tonight at 8:00 was hungry and made myself a small plate with turkey, stuffing a bit of squash and some cranberry sauce. Started eating, had the meat first then a bit of the squash, was fine. Started eating a bit of stuffing and wham....I felt awful, stopped eating immediately and put the food back in the fridge. Well I slimmed worse than ever for about half an hour and then I sort of vomited, not like real heaves, just the stuffing came up with the slime in one big mass, geez I think that stuff expanded a lot in there. I don't think I will ever eat one bite of stuffing again after that. I will go on liquids for a day or two to give my band and stomach a rest. Guess you learn something every day.....geez

First fill and Thanksgiving?
Shamrockgirl60 replied to annecolorgreen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I was a bad girl, I am having my 3rd fill December 11th. But today I ate just a small amount of food at dinner. It was later tonight about 8:00 I was hungry. So....I got a small plate with a spoonful of stuffing and a bit of turkey and some fat free gravy, Well after just a few bites I felt terrible. I slimmed for a half an hour and some of the stuffing came back up. uggggg I don't think I will ever eat stuffing again it was pretty disgusting. Now feeling much better. Waiting an hour and then will have a nice cup of sugar free coco. My treat for the day. Sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach that's for sure. The band does keep you from overeating that much I know. Duh!!!!!!! -
PLEASE Someone email my daughter!!!
Shamrockgirl60 replied to OHDEBBO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wrote your daughter and hope she does well. I know how she feels it's very scary at first. She will get better and be thrilled with this in the future. -
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I just put the 20 lb. turkey in the oven and it smells soooo good here LOL Making a huge dinner for family and friends, luckily when I cook this much I never eat that much I am too tired and all "fooded out" So I never overeat. Just have to not want a huge turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce (whole berries) and boiled onion on nice thick soft white bread sandwich at midnight tonight. LOL Hope everyone has a great day with family and friends and that you don't get "stuck" and slime. I plan not to.

I have no trouble with pita bread in small bites. Bet after a few days, after being filled you can have some. It was a recommended bread by my nutritionist. I get a local brand Joseph's that is made with flax seed and whole wheat and has Protein and is a bit softer than regular pita. Very good and low cal and no cholesterol. Or try wrapping a bit of humus in lettuce.
-
I was instructed after a fill, to go back to liquids and soft food for 48 hours and ease back into your regular eating. I keep a few Healthy Choice meals in the freezer. I love them and they give the Protein amounts on them. Easy to nuke and tasty also.
-
Did you have seminars and talks with nutritionists about just what the band is and does? That helps a lot, I refer back to my paperwork and my "bible" those are the eating instructions I got after the band. Keep in mind that you are in control of the band and your eating. The band is only as good as you make it. I know that's hard. I get hungry a lot, have had 2 fills, a few slimming episodes, ugg. And I have to continue to make good food choices. You can "eat around" the band and then you won't lose weight or lose very little and even gain wieght. Who wants that, noone, after all the work and pain you went through to get the band I make sure that when I do go a bit overboard. I take the next few days and restrict my eating to my Protein shakes and one small meal. Calories around 1000 for a few days. Then I go back to my normal 1200-1500 calories a day. I now weight myself once a week. That prevents me from getting depressed when I don't lose or gain a pound. You still are thinner than when you started. I hope to get really good restriction when I get my next fill December 11th. My goals are about 8 to 10 lbs. a month. So far I am doing well. I will take my time and hope to lose the rest before next summer. Good luck and don't beat yourself up over this, just keep trying. Pati

Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
Shamrockgirl60 replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey great things, I won't miss people staring at me when I'm shopping The clerks in the department stores ignorning me and asking the person "behind" me if they want help. What am I f##king invisible...I think NOT!!!! Getting rashes in the summer under my boobs and having my legs rub together Not finding any bathing suit that remotely looks good What I am enjoying now Crossing my legs comfortably for the first time in years. Sitting cross legged seeing my toes able to run up and down the stairs at home without breathing hard Shopping for "normal sized" clothing. I am in size 14 pants and 18 tops at this moment In the future Slinky red dresses and high heeled red shoes slinky black dresses and high heeled black shoes LOL I see a pattern there...LOL Going swimming in a cute little tankini next summer and not feeling like I have to hide in a mumu Good luck to you all.... Happy Thanksgiving -
Did everyone have to go on a diet before surgery?
Shamrockgirl60 replied to MissMe27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to lose 12 lbs. before surgery to "defat" my liver. I did it with regular dieting. It was hard but worth it. -
help!! what do you think?
Shamrockgirl60 replied to AshleyH23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes with co-morbidity your insurance should pay for it. First get everything checked out by your PCP. And get a sleep test to see if you have sleep apnea. It sounds like you may have it. Good luck. -
Gee I have the opposite problem, too much energy LOL. Are you all eating your protein? That may be the problem. I upped my protein and I feel a lot better. I have 70 grams a day, I cut back on my starches. Just protein and veggies now. A little bit of dairy, cheese and yogurt and fat free milk.

Friday Morning Weigh In - 21st November 2008
Shamrockgirl60 replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I lost 2.4 lbs. Happy with that. Can't wait till I am in my 170's maybe next week LOL. I think the Water aerobics is helping. I must sign up for another course soon. Two more weeks to go with this one. Happy Friday I weighted myself this morning (Sat) and lost another pound so 179.4 is the new weight) Wow just over half way there I am thrilled. -
Hey I guess it could not hurt. I now wear a bra about 80% of the time, but my boobs are deflating and sagging. Not happy about that at all.

Stand Still or Still Loosing?
Shamrockgirl60 replied to hope4newlife's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Seems that I am on a little plateau right now on gain but no loss. I am being really really good too. I will just weight myself once a week now. My newer clothes are getting looser anyway which is good. My plus sized stuff is hanging off me. Tried on a few thing yesterday and now fit into "regular" sizes no plus for me any more which I am very happy about. But want to get to a Medium in most things and a size 12 would be lovley. Would like to lose 10 lbs. by Christmas/New Year. But I won't dwell on it with the holidays. I was happily surprised I lost 2.4 lbs. this week. -
Is anyone eating cookies, cake, etc...
Shamrockgirl60 replied to AnnieMae's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh I had a few Reeses Peanut Butter cups at Halloween and some totsie Rolls LOL I figure sometimes it's OK as long as I am losing once in a blue moon it's OK to have a treat. I know on Thanksgiving I will have a tiny pices of apple pie, but no ice cream. I get pie thats sugar free with just the juice for sweeter. -
Yes the dreaded Holiday season...I am also going to be conservative and hope to be 173 by January 1st. 2009. Just 10 lbs and a few oz. I like having goals. It sure helps with losing.

Friday Morning Weigh In - 14 NOV 08
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Roheryn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would get a new scale. They have a neat one at Wal-Mart that tells digital weight and also BMI and can keep track it's on par with my hospital one. Same weight by about an oz. when I was weighed last week and at home. -

I would suggest keeping a food diary and an approx. calorie count. That may help. It's so very "easy" to eat around the band. You may be eating more than you think. I am keeping a log on what I eat and the calories. So If I overindulge and we all do at times, I make up for it the next day or go on a two day liquid diet...and that brings me back down. I have not had ice cream or even the no sugar kind in 4 months. I don't miss it in the winter in the summer another story. No gravies except Heinz makes a "no fat" gravy and in small amounts to moisten the chicken or beef. No booze or wine and no carbonated drinks and no ice cream drinks or smoothies they are loaded with calories. If I have that chocolate crazing...Hunts and Jello make a nice sugar free low fat pudding in cups with 60 calories per cup. I drink a lot of crystal light. Mixing up the flavors to make it new and interesting. Try lemonade with 1/2 container of raspberry ice flavor. It's really good with lots of ice. This is still a learning experience for all of us no matter when we were banded. I learn something every day. Make sure you exercise regularly and don't cut the calories too low or your body goes into starvation mode. 1200-1500 is about right for me any less and I stop losing. Your should see your doctor or a nutritionist to find out what your doing wrong if anything. My program is great we have support meetings once a month and a nutritionist and nurse practitioner on hand when you need them. I see my np every 5 weeks or so. That keeps me on track I don't want her disappointed in my weight loss. Keeps me honest...LOL Good luck hope this helps.
