    In the home stretch

BillOh I have a small frame. In my 20's and early 30's I weighted between 110 and 125. I looked good at around 130 as I got older. I gained my weight in my 40's and 50's will combo of overeating, thyroid going on the fritz and menopause. A deadly combination to keep weight off. I am 158 and feel great but I want the 28 lbs off. I will then give my self a 5-10 lb. leeway around that number. But with my 6th fill I truly now have my sweet spot. If I lose that sweet spot, I can get it back with a 7th fill. As the weight goes off the band gets loose that's why I wanted the band. So that it's adjustable. Most of the people I have known that had bypass, have not done well with it. they have problems with their bowels, keeping their nutrients up and then they sometimes slowly over time stretch out the pouch. And gain some or all or more of the weight they lost back. The band is slower, but I think much more user friendly. Good luck again. Pati

    Sleep apnea!! Diabetic!!Any advice!?!?

Well it's been months since posted and the good news is I am totally off my "CRAP" machine. Back to sleeping normally, only occasional snoring not heavy just a bit when tired. Normal. As for my Type II diabetes. My AC1 test was 6.1 which was excellent, it had been around an 8 or 9 last year. I am down to one pill a day now. You can reverse or really keep this all under control with losing the weight. I can move and do things that I haven't done for years. Like plant a garden and landscape the front of my house with new plants and shrubs. I can walk long distances now without being out of breath and feel 10 years younger. Getting the band was the best thing I ever have done for my body.

    Anniversary Challenge

I hit 158 this past Friday so I am in the 150's by Memorial Day By July 4th I would like to be in the 140's and by August 7th my anniversary in the 130's. My goal is 130 hope I can make that by the end of August. I think I have hit my sweet spot with the last fill. It's really restrictive.

Why "Chew To Liquid" is Absurd

I was told to chew till it's very very mushy soft and very small bites. It takes time to get used to doing this but I savor the food much better and am satisfied much quicker. I still have a problem with some foods, if they are dry. I can't truly enjoy steak that much. But I have learned that I can chew it and then I spit it out. Just a few bites and I am satisfied. I get most of my Protein from chicken and cheese and I can do ground beef in small amounts. I also can eat tuna mixed with no fat mayo. It's a whole new way of eating. I also can eat salads and do so a lot with grilled white meat chicken or tuna and no calorie dressing.

Friday Morning Weigh In May 22

I am late also posting but I did weight myself on Friday...down one pound. I do have a lot of restriction from my last fill, it takes a week to show up it seems. So eating even less. I hope to get a few more pounds off....soon. Been slow going the last few months. As long as I am not gaining I am happy.
  7. Ahhhh I have had that problem off and on, I take stool sofeners much less harsh than laxatives. I don't eat a lot of fiber just some whole wheat pasta and toast once in a while. I do eat lots of veggies and leafy dark lettuce. This does help.

What and how much do you eat in a day?

It's not unusual to see a small or no weight loss the few weeks after surgery, your healing. I have had my 6th fill, and not reached my sweet spot yet. I am close maybe one more fill. I eat very small bites. I also use a smaller salad plate instead of a dinner plate. It helps. I eat 3 meals a day...breakfast is a must. Always have some Protein for breakfast. Scrambled eggbeaters are good. I add an oz. of fat free cheddar cheese and make an omelet. I also have one piece of weight watchers or similar low carb whole wheat bread with just a smear of Smart Balance on it. I have fruit for snack around 11:00 pm and a light lunch of a salad with protein veggies and Walden Farms no calorie dressing. Dinner 3 oz of protein like lean steak, or chicken with veggies and a small baked potato if I can eat it...sometimes can't I am full then I save it. Snack one serving of sugar free pudding 60 calories or a 100 calorie ic cream snack when it's hot out. I write down what I eat and stay within the 100-1200 calorie a day most of the time. I walk 20-30 min a day. Swimming in our pool when it opens in a week or so. I do Water aerobics too. I hope to get the last 29 lbs. off by the end of August just past my one year anniversary. Good luck
  9. Good thanks I'll look for it.

    Why You Shouldn't Eat Salad

I was told not to drink anything carbonated for at least a year after banding. Then I don't know. I will have to ask my doctor. I gave up my beloved diet coke and an occasional Sam Adams lager and now drink Crystal Light. I am used to it. I enjoy my tea and coffee. Iced in the summer.

    "The Rules"

Most are the same but protein first is a must. You need it or you will have problems, like your hair falling out and feeling crappy. I make sure I have small portions 3-4 oz of protein and then maybe a half cup of veggies or salad with no cal dressing (there is such a thing, Walden Farms makes it they have a website) and then a few spoonfuls of starch. potatoes, brown rice or whole wheat pasta. I do have a snack, either a sugar free pudding cup, or a sugar free, ice milk snack. It keeps me honest. LOL Eat slow, small bites and when you get that "feeling" you STOP EATING IMMEDIATELY. You will know what that feelingis really. More like I can't put another bit in my mouth without barfing.... good luck
  12. Cool, we have a Wii game system, is this the game called Wii workout? It's been hard to get but I saw it in the store the other day and want to get it when I have a few more bucks saved.

My NOW lovely front yard LOL

Update, most of the work was done by Thanksgiving, we finished most of it this April/May with the grass being planted and hubby and I doing the landscaping ourselves. More flowers (bulbs) will be planted in the fall for next spring. It came out really nice. We are having a new septic system put in, it has to go in the front yard since the back yard is lower and we have a very high water table. It's a real mess. I just want it done by Halloween so the kids don't fall in the big hole...LOL

  18. I am mot speaking at that meeting that is the support group everyone talks and asks questions. I was asked to speak at the monthly larger meeting for prospective patients for both lap band and bypass surgery. It's the first seminar they want you to go to. I will most probably wait till I lose a few more pounds, and closer to my year anniversary to do the "big talk" have to prepare what I will say and have a few photos on hand before and after ones. Good luck and I look forward to meeting you next week. I can wear my size 12 jeans or capri's LOL

    frustrated and upset with therapist

I would report the nurse's lousy attitude to her boss, who is your therapist I assume. She had the wrong attitude to be doing any kind of work with overweight people especially ones having bariatric surgery. She needs a new job.
  20. Well guess I will start this one. I am now down into the 150's finally and have only 29 pounds to go to goal. I think they might be the hardest pounds to lose. I was on a plateau going between 160-163 up and down for a month. Drove me crazy. Had my 6th fill on Wed. I hope for my sweet spot soon. I did not see the August bandsters listed in the main forums. Wonder why. Not much activity. Well big day tomorrow my granddaughter Christina turns one year old. We are having a party. I will eat one very very small piece of cake LOL.:tt1: Take care all and have a great weekend. Pati

i miss my food so much

Boy I can understand this. New post for me...I posted earlier. People have asked me "When you get down to your goal weight, you can have the band removed right?" I have to inform them no way will I do that. This is for life for me. I feel so good now. I can do so much more "stuff" and just crossing my legs is wonderful. A size 12 jeans is wonderful also. Having people now see me for me and not the weight. Being treated well now in stores and other places is great, sad but great. I treat everyone the same, I will never ever change. I go out of my way still to be nice to other overweight people. I have been there. It's not picnic for sure. Everyone is different here, but we are all fellow bandsters going day to day. I don't look too far ahead. Pati

    Why You Shouldn't Eat Salad

Heck, I eat my protein in a salad first, usually diced roast skinless chicken breast 3 oz.. And the cheese 3 oz., if I am not full I then eat the greens and veggies. Not hard to eat salads with the band but that is just my experience.
