Anyone who said this doesn't hurt=lies!
Shamrockgirl60 replied to ahsem2bme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey I agree, can't understand anyone saying it's easy, they are on heavy drugs and or lying. LOL. It's been a week and a day and finally feeling well enough to go to the store today and out shopping for 3 hours, I did need a nap after I got home. Mostly the port area is sore whenever I move. The nurse I saw yesterday said it's because the port is sewn into the muscles. And that can hurt. Gas pain finally gone, GAS X is the best thing ever. On Protein but I mix it with my Soups now, changed to soy bases I was allergic to the whey bases and spent most of the first week in the bathroom and feeling nausea all the time. Luckily never threw up. Today 100% better than last week, and hope this time next week even better. Welcome Pati -
Welcome and congratulations on being banded. It's been a week for me. Still in a little pain. And getting use to NOT EATING LOL. Any questions you may have can be answered here. And ask away. Pati

Hey your right next door. I was banded at Lahey by Dr. Brahms. I am losing at a nice pace. Had to change to a soy Protein and not the whey protein, it made me sick and very very nauseous. Now using plain unflavored protein in my Soup and my drinks. It's much easier to digest. Week one was hard, a bit of pain and gas, Week 2 is much much better. I am able to walk and rest and now eating a bit more stuff. That helps.I picked up a cool scale at Wal-Mart in No. Reading. It's called a Health-O-Meer goes up to 375 pounds, and can save and store and calculate up to 4 people. It records your weight, BMI, and body hydration. It's very cool. Tracks your weight too you set a goal and it works everything out. If anyone has questions about Lahey, just let me know. Pati:rolleyes2::thumbup::rolleyes2::sad::rolleyes2::tt1:

That sounds good to me. I am hating the Unjury shakes now, makes me nauseas and bloated and gassy. I am going to having creamy soups, and I can blenderize other soups in my blender. And some sugar free pudding and lots of water. I would rather take a quick shot of protein and not drink that stuff any more. I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks Felling better every day.

Nausea from protein shakes??
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Sask Patient's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am post op one week and the unjury has bothered me. Nausea, and gas, and my stools are loose and smelly like metal. Totally gross. I will be off the shakes in a week so I will ask the nurse tomorrow for some anti nausea meds. The headaches are from going off caffeine and not eating anything but the shakes and Jello and broth. Tomorrow I get to eat a bit more, cream Soups and sugar free pudding. So that might help. Walking helps the gas pains. GAS X is a wonder. It sure helps. Feeling better every day, but still very tired. Want to nap a lot. Update, I called Unjury today and they were so very nice. I explained what has been happening and they understood, I am returning the unused portions of my shipment and the opened ones too. They are giving me a full refund. Now later today will talk to my dietitian to see what else I can take. Wish me luck. Update, I saw my doctors nurse and the dietitian today, (he's in Israel) will see him end of the month. Everything is healing well, and they are pleased with my weight loss and healing, said the shorness of breath and tired is normal for the first few weeks and I will feel better in a week or so, if I feel any worse to call them asap. They said to change to a different Protein drink or powder. I went to GNC and got their unflavored high performance soy based powder which is 24 grams of protein per scoop. The guy said it may be the whey in the whey powder that makes me sick. I mixed it with Crystal light lemonade and it's not too bad, no metal taste. I can also mix it in my cream and tomato and squash soups before I warm them up. I'll try that later with my dinner. -
HELP! I have a fatty liver/any tips or tricks?
Shamrockgirl60 replied to RestlessMonkey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check with your doctor. My husand had a fatty liver and was reading Prevention magazine, and they had an article about "Milk thistle" that you can take it and it helps de fat livers. After being on it a few months and having a let fat and carb diet , but not a real strict one, he went back and had a liver test and his liver was almost completely clear, very little fat, the doctor was very surprises, I brought the article from Prevention and he was going to look into it. But check with you doctor first before trying it. -
I love my band!!!!
Shamrockgirl60 replied to donnabarney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow thanks for the encouragment, I am not in love with my band yet...still feeling punky after a week, the bloating and headaches and sore. Getting better every day. Getting lots of rest and taking short walks. As long as I don't feel worse I am happy. -
I have the same problems, was banded on the 7th. I called the nurse regarding the pain, and breath shortness and I also have nausea. She said it was mostly from gas and bloating and that my weight gain. Almost 20 lbs. was due to the fluids and the gas I received during the surgery. Today a bit better, I think it's mostly gas and now my stomach is very empty and making loud noises. I walk around and that helps. But I'm still really tired. I have my 1 week appointment after surgery tomorrow. Hope I can get something for the nausea. I also got on the scale and I am down to 207.5 even though my stomach is bloated, you an see it, my arms and legs are thinner, looks very strange believe me. I look like a pumpkin on sticks LOL. I hope that boating goes away soon had to wear my ugly pants when I went out to the store today. UGGGGG. Also I have had a bit of diarrhea, it's horrible and smells even worse, have a metalic smell and my mouth tastes that way, I wonder if that's from the Protein shakes. It's pretty disgusting. Just hope I feel better soon. This is a bit rougher than I thought it would be. But since I am older than a lot of people here I chalk it up to being old LOL. Take care Pati

HELP!!! Im not losing...
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Ebeth0013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you very much for the explanation on PCOS. I am past menopause, went into it early because of loss of an ovary. I had some of the symptoms, only mine was my thyroid it too a few years to diagnose it and that's when I gained a lot of my weight. I also developed Type II diabetes. So a double whammy. Just was banded last week, was bloated and went up to 224 and today a week later am down to 207.5 So I lost a lot of the bloat and water. A few lbs. also. So I am feeling good. -

Newbies - Watch out of dehydration
Shamrockgirl60 replied to kellim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had some of the same problems, felt too full to even drink my shakes. So I now am forcing myself to sip my Water with crystal light all day. Little sips. The bloating is so common, from all gas and Fluid trapped in your stomach area. Also I was going to the bathroom every few hours and having well very loose stools. It was awful, If I just moved it would come pouring out. Poor family had to wash my sheets and some clothing. The nurse said that would be better once I am on some solid (mushy) food at the end of this week. Will be able to have some cottage cheese and applesauce. Yummmmy LOL Well Week one is almost gone, and I hope it gets better, I just hate being so tired. Wanting to sleep. take care Pati -
I am stil having some gas pains, walking helps and I have used Gas X strips and they help a lot too. I am now feeling the bruising around the incisions. It's sore now but since I'm on tylenol it helps. I have no desire for food which is strange, although I am sick of Jello LOL. The shakes aren't bad have to drink slower now which stops the gas. I am about 20 lbs. heavier than the day of my surgery, which sucks, but the nurse said today that is not a real "true" weight, that will be taken in about 2 weeks. It's the bloating and gas and Fluid. My arms and legs look thinner and my boobs too. My stomach is just bloated out a bit, look sort of pregnant. I am going out tomorrow for the first time since I got home, been mostly sleeping and walking around the house. I hope I can wear a bra uncomfortably. See the nurses at the hospital on Thursday, and hope to get my permission to go to soft mushy foods like applesauce and cottage cheese. Take care all Pati

Gee I am now in my 5th day after surgery and I sure couldn't do a theme park unless in a wheel chair with lots of liquid to drink and a lot of easy access bathrooms. Maybe in my 20's but I'm 60 and I would wait another week or so. Good Luck

I love my band!!!!
Shamrockgirl60 replied to donnabarney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wonderful, I always loved to bike ride as a kid. I can't wait for them to give me permission to start back on it. Yes the bike I got from Amazon is the same as the one at Wal-Mart. I got it at Amazon because I didn't have to pay for the shipping, and I got a helmet with it. I did change the seat with one I got at Wal-Mart, a much more comfortable one. I have to get a light, and a basket for the front of the bike. It's not too hard to put together either. -
Who's Getting Banded in August???
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I was banded on the 7th, finally now able to write a bit more about it. Everything went "textbook" as my surgeon said. It was filmed for internet purposes to bring in more clients. I asked him if I could have a cut of the action, he thought that was funny, I was half serious LOL. Hey didn't hurt to ask. I had a lot of pain the night and day after surgery. I had nausea and had a tiny bit of frothing and thew up the froth, and boy I don't ever want to do that again, talk about uncomfortable and painful...ugggggg. We figured it was the combo of anesthesia and the morphine drip. They sent me home with the Roxiset. I am still taking a small teaspoon full about every 6-8 hours now. No real pain but I did have the bruising on each incision. And that is sore. Everything is healing well, and my weight is starting to come down a bit. I figure that in a week or so I will be through with the swelling and bloated feeling. Thank the lord for the GAS X strips that melt in your mouth, the cinnamon are tasty...I pretend it's a nice fat cinnamon roll. I use about 2 of them every 5 hours or so. I finally am able to use my CPAP all night and only woke up 2 times to go potty. Gee they don't say much about the weird diarrhea do they LOL. Just a warning be careful when you "toot" LOL. I learned the hard way what can happen LOLLOLLOL. I now can tell when I am full, it's hard to describe but I know it. My key is to eat the broth, Jello and even drink the Protein shakes very slowly. I am completely full after I have them I have my shake first thing in the morning (for energy) then an hour later I have my broth and Jello. I repeat this at lunch and dinner. I am so happy I did this and can live with the small amount of discomfort to have a new lease on life. And maybe some semblance of my old body back even though I will never look 20 again. I just might feel it. Good Luck Everyone Pati -

Hi I just got banded last week, prior to that I bought a Schwinn adult tricycle. It's blue and I bought a more comfortable seat. It has a basket in the rear and I'm adding one to the front. Can't wait till I can ride it again. I stopped because of my left knee, I have arthritis in it and with the weight loss to come, I will be better. Right now getting over the shock of the "weight gain" after surgery LOL. Mostly bloating and air and liquid. It will go down soon. Just starting to feel decent. -
Who's Getting Banded in August???
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still post op, was banded August 7th. I suspect that the pain I am having will be aroud for a while. I am around for a while here, some bruising and soreness around the fill port. The rest is almost free of pain. -
How awful for you I had the dry heaves the morning following my banding. So I worry about slippage. Right now no hunger at all, doing my protein shakes three times a day and then I eat my jello and broth an hour later. No more dry heaves and just gas and a little pain in my larger port incision. So far so good. Get to see doctor this week to check for slippage. Since I just had the dry heaves once and a little frothing the doctors are not that upset about any slippage. I just hope everything is OK. I gained weight, mostly from gas, and bloating. I am peeing a lot which is cleaning out my system a lot. Just hope that keeps up, I am taking it one day at a time. take care Pati

Who's Getting Banded in August???
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Dixiedoo, I don't have any self doubts at all, I was pretty calm about all of this. I am not the least bit hungry which is amazing to me. I have to force myself to eat that jello and broth. I never thought I would see that coming a mile away. Right now the jello does taste great and the broth like prime rib LOLLOLLOL. It's too funny. Once the swelling and gas goes down I hope my pre-op weight will show again. I am not worried the least bit about it. Good luck everyone. Pati -
I am using the UNJURY powders, mix the citric flavor Crystal Light with the vanilla shake and it's like a dreamcicle. The other I mix with the 0% fat free milk. I am in a bit of pain but nothing I can't handle. Just want to put on my cpap and go back to sleep every hour or so.

Hi I seem to be retaining water, I looks like it and my scale says so. I hope that when I see the nurse this week I can get a good answer from her.I am having gas pains in my left arm and my stomach. Also a bit of nausea also. The GAs X extra strength strips do help a lot. At least I have absolutely no appetite for anything which is good. Just my port incision is a bit sore but not too bad. The other incisions I don't feel much at all except a slight pulling feeling. NO real pain. I am going back to bed with my CPAP on and get a bit more sleep tonight. Take care all Pati

Who's Getting Banded in August???
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi got banded Thursday the 7th, and first time I felt like sitting down and writing something more than two sentences. I am still on my painkillers, I had wicked gas pains Thursday and Friday, much better now. At Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA they keep you overnight. I am on Roxycet. Love the stuff LOL. It's a liquid Percoset without the nausea. I am not one bit hungry at all. Which is wonderful. Having my protein shakes and my sugar Jello and my low salt beef, chicken and veggie broth.. Crystal Light and water. I had a tiny couple o sips of coffee in the morning. I have gained weight which is very strange. Taking walks around the house in slippers. Will walk outside this week, up and down the street. I hope this keeps up. Feeling more normal by the hour. I got to the hospital at around 10:45 and checked in, They didn't start anything till about 11:30, I remember going into the operating room and well that's all, not one sound at all. Then remembering waking up around 4:00 PM in recovery and seeing the nurses and my husband and daughter came in for a few minutes. I sent them home and said come back tomorrow and get me LOL. I didn't feel like company even family at that time. The worse thing was the gas and nausea, both of which drove me crazy from Thursday night till Friday mid afternoon. They changed my pain meds Thursday afternoon, then added anti-nausea meds. I felt much better and just rested and slept Thursday night. By Friday AM I felt much better, was walking around the room and in the halls. I just wanted to go home and sleep for a while. Got to say the staff was great and did everything to help me despite the fact that the nursing assistants were working on 15 patients, per one aide. That was tough. I might have had a 15-30 minute wait for them to come when called. Nothing too important that I couldn't wait. I got all my instructions and saw the doctor a few times and was ready to go home, so they let me leave for home a bit before 4:00 pm. He said things were textbook perfect, and they did the video for the hospital. To be shown to potential patients and family. Was glad to get home and settled down and to sleep. Woke up this morning much better. I was able to go to the store and get a few things with hubby driving . Tonight I will just settle down and rest for the night. This forum has been a big help in dealing with the ups and downs and other things. Just glad to be home in one piece. Take care of yourself and don't do too much. Pati and family. -
Glad to hear everything went well Flem. And it's great your Dad is going home. I am sitting here watching the clock...tick, tick, tick. Going to take a nice long hot shower and wash my hair and shave my legs in a few minutes. Can't look like jungle girl today. Give myself a facial while I am at it. Will leave here about 10:30 so I get to the hospital abut 10:45 and check in at 11:00am. Had to pack up my much hated CPAP machine, that sucker it heavy. I have a fancy carrying case for it. Packed my little overnight bag, with new nightgown and robe. My Grandma Brag Book with some new cute photos of my new granddaughter. Hubby is more nervous than I am, and his recuperation from his heart surgery almost 4 weeks ago is amazing. He's driving and feeling really good. Has a long way to go but he can take care of me for a few days. LOL. Heck while I am waiting for surgery, he's going to drop me off, he's having the tires checked on the car, our dealer is just down the street from the hospital, they have been wonky since the tune up in July. He's just started driving it again this week. Then he's back to the hospital to wait for my surgery, and then go home for a nap, and come back later in the evening when I am more awake. Take care all.....xxxxx my fingers and toes that it all goes well. Goodbye all my favorite things, Hot fudge sundaes are my worst vice... Pati
