    My Olympic Experience

Wow I hope you had fun at the Olympics. The opening and closing were awesome. I had to go to court a week or so ago and I didn't set anything off. The Lap Band I have has no metal in it they told me.

good news but not so good news

Look for a specialty service, My hospital has a Surgical Weight loss center and they are wonderful. Your best bet is to check with all the hospitals in your area to see what they offer, and go to a seminar or two and talk to people in the support groups at each one. Good lick in you search. It's hard to have a bad doctor with bad workers.

    Second Thoughts

Hey I am 60 and got banded two and a half weeks ago and I am so very very happy, Took a while longer to recover than the younger bandsters but I am feeling about 85% normal. It will take time to get to 100%. I was never heavy till my 40's and 50's and yo yo dieted for years. Took a toll on my body and mind. Now this is a great tool to lose weight and if you use it carefully you will do that. Hoping to be nice and slim for my 61st. Birthday next March.
  4. Yikes, I guess I might try that sometime, but I have had two colonoscopies and well both of them I was cleaned out with the drink they gave me. It was yucky but worked.
  5. In the refrigerated section of the supermarket they have Jello sugar free pudding cups, they are only 60 calories for one. I have one a day for a treat. The box instant is good but this is better tasting.

Shh.. Can you keep a secret??

Too funny about the gallbladder surgery excuse. If you have to tell the bosses that your having surgery, just state that, and get a doctors note for it. Until you feel comfortable telling them don't do it. I told my some of my family and my close friends. I am retired which is good, I may go back to work part time when I lose the weight. Have to make money for new clothing LOL. But I wouldn't broadcast it to the world. Good luck

    Port pain/Side pain when sleeping

I was banded Aug. 7th and my port is still a bit sore. I usually read in bed, and on my stomach. I have a bit of pressure and sore on the port area, but not too bad. I think this takes longer to heal and should be better in a month or so. Good luck

    Mushie Things

I am in my 3rd week and can have mashed potatoes with water added instant plain watered down like a liquid. The same with Cream of Wheat, watered down with skim milk. Could use that in the potatoes. I also can have pureed fruits, I got Pineapple crushed and ran it through the blender with it's juice. It's a liquid now and mix with cottage cheese, Tomato soup with Ricotta skim milk cheese is like mock pasta. Very good And Butternut squash cooked and them put in the blender with a bit of splenda and some Pumpkin Pie spices like a pie. Very good
  9. Right I seem to eat something every 3-4 hours now and I am not hungry. Since being Type II diabetic I should and will eat 6 small meals a day. I will space out my meals and that should keep me from being hungry.
  10. I normally never ate breakfast unless we went out for it. Now I eat in the morning. I am in my 3rd week, and having 3 shakes. One morning before breakfast , one before lunch and one before dinner. I wait 30 minutes then eat my regular meals. I have my cottage cheese and fruit for breakfast. I can have thinned out wheat hot Cereal with skim milk and splenda. Good for breakfast. Then have my lunch of thinned out mashed potatoes. Dinner I think I'll have pureed butternut squash with some ricotta cheese. I don't start mushy stuff for another 2 weeks. Not till week 5. For a snack only approved foods. So either Jello, or sugar free pudding cup or applesauce cup (little servings) before bed. Only one. Then I can usually sleep well and not be wanting something later. I really am not very hungry but force myself to do this so in time I won't overeat. While I am healing need nutrition.

    Really messed up yesterday.

Hey don't beat yourself up over it. We will all stray at one time or another, just get back on track. A few fries won't kill you. Good luck. Right now I am still on the semi mushy stage, cottage cheese and soupy mashed potatoes. LOL I am only craving one thing....crispy orange beef, my favorite Chinese food with spicy sauce. LOL Not even sweets appeal to me any more. Take care and take every day "one day at a time" and before you know it you will be thinner.

Lap Band Placed 8-21-2008 (feel horrible)

Take a bit more time off from work if you can. I am in my third week and finally feel normal. No more pain and the port area is just a tiny bit sore, I don't even need meds. And no more gas. Hang in there...it will get better. My first week was horrible also.

  15. I ended up on soy protein drinks from ESAdvantage. I ended up allergic to whey protein after the surgery. I also got GNC's 25 gram no flavor protein powder to put in soups. It adds a bit of "bulk" to cream soups and protein. Good luck. Gas and bloating are very common after surgery. It's been only a few days so relax and walk and take some GAS X tabs they help a lot. I was so bloated I was 223 after surgery, and was 211 the day of surgery. Mostly gas and fluids. Took a week for them to go down. My stomach is still a bit bloated.
  16. Wow where did you two have your bands done, sounds pretty scary to me that both your doctors have messed up. I wonder how many surgeries they have each done.

    Thank Heaven for Potato Soup

Well every doctor is different. I am on cottage cheese and stuff after two weeks. I love soup, try the "soup at hand" by Campbells it's very blended and easy to sip on. They have a new one, Tomato with parm cheese bisque it's delish...love it. I also like the cream of chicken soup too. Lot's of different soups. I love butternut squash so I cook that and put it in a blender with a little water and make soup it's so good, with a bit of splenda and some apple pie seasoning. Or Pumpkin pie seasoning.

    Afraid to eat

Go and run to the store and get GAS X melt in the mouth tabs. I had them like candy and they worked along with walking to ease the gas pains. You must drink your Protein drink, that was stressed to me a lot. Then your fluids and warm broth and Jello the first week. It will get better I swear, starting my 3rd week and feeling just about normal.

    Afraid to Try New Foods

I am starting my 3rd week after banding, eating cottage cheese, and pureed fruits, yogurt, and smooth Soups. Also skim milk ricotta cheese. I also have a tbs. of parm cheese in my tomato soup with Italian spices and it tastes like spaghetti sauce, yummy, I may mix some with the ricotta cheese and put in small half cup containers for lunches. I won't have real "solid food for 3 more weeks. I move into the scrambled eggs and other mushy s two weeks. I was 211 the day I went in for surgery, I am 204 now. I weighted 224 the day after surgery so.......I lost the gas and Water weight and a few pounds. I am happy to lose 2-3 lbs. per week it's much healthier that way. I am not filled yet so I do have to watch everything even though I am not really hungry. good luck Pati
