Friday morning weigh in...19 sep 08
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Roheryn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh my been posting my weight on the wrong thread. Well had my first fill and down 10 from my visit a month ago to the Phy. Asst. She is very happy with my progress. The fill was just 1 cc and I am on liquids and mushies for 2 days. I have been losing about 1-2 lbs. per week. I am happy with that. Getting more exercise helps also. I take it one day at a time and that is the best way. -
Yup I learned that fast. Still have to make effort to eat slow. It will take time for sure. Had my first fill today, it went well. One little prick and it was over in less than a few minutes. I now know how much to eat and that's what I put on my plate.

I just had my first fill today, it was so easy, I was a bit afraid after the stories of being stuck like a pin cushion a number of times before they found the "port" one little prick from a thin needle and it was done in less than 2 minutes. I am on liquid and mushies again for 48 hours. So I will continue my diet that they gave me. 3 oz Protein for each meal, and veggies then starch in that order. I have had real good restriction so far without the fill. So looking forward to seeing what happens. I have never vomited, have had some uncomfortable full feeling and a tad of slime. But then got up and walked it off. I am losing about 2 lbs. a week and am happy.

what to do when something is stuck
Shamrockgirl60 replied to suzy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Please don't vomit, it can make your band slip. Don't drink either, just get up and walk around and wait a few minutes and it will slide through. Had two stuck moments this week my first week on "real food" Slimed a bit, ugggg and got nauseous and and made sure I didn't vomit. Just take small bites and wait between bites. Good luck Pati:tongue2: -
I would call your surgeon right away, that is not good that they are confused. what is a NG tube if it's the tube they put in when your out cold to breath, it is done with every operation with General Anesthesia. My hospital has separate classes and support groups for Lap Band and Gastric Bypass. Make sure your in the right program.

LOL on the jumping up and down, had a few "stuck" things, mostly my cooking not others, I make killer Pasta sauce with little meat balls, I had just three little ones and some sauce, ate a tad too fast. and bam, it stuck and hurt, so I got up and walked around for a few minutes and it was fine. LOL Just have to remember to eat small bites (size of a dime) and chew, chew, chew. Eat slowly, put fork or spoon down in between bites, take 30 minutes per meal and that should stop it. good luck Pati:tongue2:

Hi, have not forgotten you. My computer died the past week and I had the repair person download all my photos to a separate little hard drive. I got a new computer this week. A nice fast Dell with lots of memory and a kicking hard drive and 22 inch widescreen. Just love it. Can't believe it's so fast. My old one was 7 years old. And a dinosaur. My granddaughter turned 4 months this week, she's getting cuter and smarter by the day. -
Wow your doing great Moe ( better than the Sox, don't get me started on them now...LOL) I get my first fill today, not looking forward to the needle and no numbing stuff on it. I still feel a little pulling in the port area, but all in all feel terrific. Hey just got a new Dell computer this week and a new rug for the living room.

Hey wish I could have done this a few years earlier. But I didn't become morbidly obese till my late 50's. I was normal weight in high school and I still had kind of a miserable time. I have one eye and well I got picked on for it. I was happy to leave high school, get a job, move into the city make new friends. I only have one friend from high school, she's been my friend since the second grade. I got a new prosthtic eye, contact leses, dyed my hair blond, Lost 10 lbs LOL back then a lot. Got in shape and had a blast till I met my husband (now that sounds bad LOL) Got married, had a baby, then gained weight slowely till my thyroid went kaputz and messed me up for a few years (undiagnosed). My highest weight was 250. Lost 50 lbs. two years ago in Nutrasystem but gained back till I was 230 again and decided to go for the surgery, I have type II diabetes and sleep apnia. Got approved, had it done and now I am feeling great, able to do things like cross my legs again...hey that is a big deal. I am 60 and looking forward to 20 more years of life. You have so many years and things will change at 19 you have your chance to shine. When the weight comes off you will feel sooooo good about yourself. God Bless and take care Pati

Great Advise and weight that protein to make sure it's 3 oz. You will feel the restriction on regular food, I sure did this week LOL ate a tad too fast and bam got nauseous felt the restriction , slimed a little (ugggg) got up and waked till it went away. One more bite then you feel it. You will feel that restriction for sure if you eat one more mouthful then it can hold. Get my first fill today. Have my Protein shakes and smooth Soup on hand. Take care all:tongue2: -

Hi thanks for the invite. Feeling really good today, I am at just about 195 which is so good for me. Getting out of the 200's is amazing. Did it 2 years ago and gained it all back. Now I know I won't do that for sure.

I have been banded since August 7th and I am on real food now. Just really small amounts and I have not thrown up. Not had any slime either. I measure my food carefully 3 oz of Protein and small amount of veggies cut small and a few tbs. of starch like Pasta and potatoes. I eat slowly and when I feel that strange full feeling I stop and don't continue at all. Throw away whats left on your plate. It's a matter of self control and eating small bites and slowly. When I get that feeling I get up and walk around for a few minutes it goes away and then I am fine. And don't drink for an hour afterward. Hope this helps. -
weight gain because of surgery
Shamrockgirl60 replied to chicamam1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ya the same thing happened with me. Went in at around 211 and came out at 225 LOL. Lost it in a week or two and continue to lose about 2 lbs a week. So far very happy. Had home made Pasta sauce and meatballs (2) and 1/4 cup of sauce over 2/3 cup cooked spaghetti with a bit of cheese. And was totally full. That's about 1/3 of what I normally have eaten. I do make great sauce LOL Took me a while and now I know my limit. Having my first fill on Friday. -
Wonderful congratulations, hope I can say the same thing next year.....lots of hard work and it's worth it.

Help, I'm Starving!!!
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Donna0526's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a very very extensive pre-operation meetings and testing so I knew what would happen, not overnight, and not without me doing most of the work. It's not something you do then forget to do the right things with it, it is a big help in losing weight, but you must respect it. And do what they tell you to do. -
