I could use a Buddy/Mentor
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Shamrockgirl60's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey sorry I have not posted it's been crazy around here, having a new septic system put in and my front yard looks like a battle ground. Check my photos LOL. How are you doing. I am doing great, thought I had gained a few pounds this week because I ate more than I have been, for some reason the cool weather makes my very hungry for carbs and stuff LOL I am making beef stew in my crock pot today. I use lean beef and lots of veggies. Yummy Busy with my granddaughter, I watch her 3 days a week with hubby, since they live downstairs it's great. We love to take her for car rides and visiting. Going leaf peeping today....it's fall here and lovely. How are you doing? Take care and hope to hear from you soon. Pati -
Hi I am a new Lap Bander, I was banded on August 7th, 2008, so far I am doing well, getting nervous because I am going into eating "real foods". It's been comfortable eating liquids and soft foods for 4 weeks. Now is crunch time. I am almost afraid to eat anything. :tongue2:I would like a buddy near my own age of 60, other than that I am married, swell guy who is very supportive, have one grown daughter and one new 4 month old granddaughter who I adore. We have 2 rescue Golden Retrievers, and 3 rescue cats. We live about 15 miles north of Boston and I was banded at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA Any help getting over my fear of eating would be appreciated. Also this is wonderful idea so that if we get discouraged we can go to someone who knows what is happening and can support us and answer questions no matter how silly some may seem. Thanks again and look forward to having a buddy/mentor. Pati

And if you find a good tailor you can have a suit or two altered as you go along, and at the end have them all tailored to fit the new you if you can. I am lucky I am retired so I don't have that problem. But I do have three wardrobes...my fat one, my medium fat one and my not so fat one....I am now in the medium fat/and a few not so fat items are fitting me fine.

Cheese anyone????????????????? 14 days post op!
Shamrockgirl60 commented on Baptist Bandster's blog entry in Blog 47200
Well I love cheese and it's a great source of protein. I would get the soup in hand (the tomato is great) and take a bit of grated Parmesan and sprinkle that with some Italian spices and fresh black pepper, nuke for a minute and 20 seconds and ......you have Italian soup tastes just like pasta sauce and it was lovely. I still heat it. I also got finely shredded Sargento low fat cheddar and that is yummy also on soup and salads. Melting it helps. So go for it...start with just a tiny bit and see if it bothers you. Best of luck. Pati -
Just Need to Vent
Shamrockgirl60 replied to salome000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow what a horrible place and staff, I can't believe they have treated you this way, and I would have told that bitch to shut up.....Some of us don't' have the extra money for gym classes. I wish there was someplace better for you to go too. I can't imagine making you pay the day ahead. I am a bit confused it this self-pay or does your insurance pay for it all? Making you pay ahead sucks. I would write a letter of complaint to the head of the hospital with all the information of your treatment. Just hang in there and your best revenge is to lose weight and when your finished tell the bitch off....LOL Your a brave women and a strong one. You are 100% better than they are. Remember that. -
Friday Weigh In Oct. 17, 2008
Shamrockgirl60 replied to mdhomeschool's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations everyone, I was sure I had gained at least one or two pounds this week, I have been eating more than I was. I even sneaked a little Pasta last night. LOL but to my amazement I lost. Go figure. For a few weeks I was losing one or two pounds. This week a total of 3 pounds. I finally it the magic loss of more than 40 pounds since before and after surgery. I have not seen the 180's in 15 years. Just told hubby and after a big hug he said...wow you feel good. LOL Well it's cold but nice and we have the baby today while my daughter works, going to get her dressed up nice and cute and take her for a ride to visit friends and take in the fall leaves and check out a few farm stands for produce. I love leaf peeping. I will take photos and post them in my album. Take care all and happy losing....I am also making some of my famous beef stew today, put in the crock pot and when we get home yummmy....LOl Happy Friday Pati -
I'm failing, help
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Andrea20405's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can understand, my progress is rather slow, the past week I have had the hungry horrors and not much restriction. It's willpower that's keeping me on this diet and exercise and the band is a help. I am so afraid to overeat and make the band slip I think about it before I eat anything. And if I don't slow down and chew I get that awful stuck feeling. I am hoping that my second fill gives me more restriction. I didn't want to go through all that this intailed...the diet and the surgery and the weeks of Fluid, not to mention the scars and the pain for nothing. I won't let my being a food addict mess this up. Seeing my shrink tomorrow...that helps to talk to her. Good luck and keep on keeping on. One day at a time.... -
How does everyone feel about gum chewing?
Shamrockgirl60 replied to scanlon21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor and nurse practitioner said NO GUM at any time because you could swallow and it could get stuck and mess the band up and you would have to have it surgically removed. I am not a gum chewer I just don't like it in particular the people who "snap" their gum...I want to scream when I hear that. So gross and low class. JMHO -
LOL on the closet shopping. I pulled out my size 18 petite jeans a few weeks ago and they were a tad tight but fit. Now they fit perfectly. I have some 18 tops that are looking goood too. I only have a few size 16 things and can't wait for them to fit. Then after that it's just jeans and t-shirts till I lose it all. I won't buy any new clothes except undies and bras till I lose it all. Since I am retired I don't need any work type clothing which is good.

Wow all of the above for me I won't miss huffing and puffing and going one step at a time up stairs. I now can run up them without being out of breath Able to walk for miles without getting winded Not having that huge stomach sticking out front any more Crossing my legs comfortably for the first time in years. One of my double chins is finally gone for good Just the all around feeing good about myself is the best thing ever.

Hey don't beat yourself up over it. Just remember the next time. Maybe good to not have chips in the house. At least for now. I buy those small bags for the family then we don't have a lot around. I admit I ate a bit too much Sunday. I made a nice roast beef with all the fixings except no gravy. LOL I had two small slices. Then I had the half acorn squash with a bit of real butter, and maple syrup and spices. Sooooo good I had two small spoonfuls of smashed red bliss potatoes good also and one small dinner roll. That was a lot for me. But still about half of what I used to eat..... which is a good thing LOL So for the first two days this week I really really dieted and had only 1000 calories a day I usually have about 1200 a day. I still lost a pound in 3 days. Just adjust your diet after cheating for a day or so and it will be fine.

What's up with the Psychologist appt????
Shamrockgirl60 replied to wintobethin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gee I have a nice hour long chat with questions and no "test" After that we had group meeting with the shrink to help us understand just what the lap band was and how to use it and how to eat properly and think about what we are doing. I don't know if they refuse people but I am sure they have sometimes. This is not a miracle. It's a tool. -
I buy the "Thin and Trim" lunch meat, turkey and roast beef or ham. Not other kinds. I love pita bread and now I have a small pita, Josephs with whole wheat and flax seed, it's low carb and no fat. I use lettuce and small think tomato slice. I use a few squirts of the salad dressing with only 10 calories a squirt. Balsamic is very good. Sometimes I just slice it into thin strips and top a small salad. I don't eat much because it's processed.

My story, an update from the years
Shamrockgirl60 replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your new baby, it's great to hear from long time banders. Since I am only about 2 and a half months out. Good that you didn't gain too much when pregnant. I feel this is more a tool than a miracle you get out of it what you put into it...no pun intended. Helps you make the right choices. Especially the food ones.
