6 or 7 months medically supervised diet?!
Amurillo04 replied to lasmith0802's topic in Insurance & Financing
God I'm on my 5th month and I was looking forward to having surgery In July. I really hope I have to wait another month Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have that insurance as well and unfortunately as most insurances it needs to be under a doctor. The insurance coordinators have a pretty good idea of what there doing -most of the time- and it's basically there job to get you approved because they want that 30 grand from you lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Phoenix - Woow! Your team really moves fast lol! That is just wonderful. It feels so great to finally know for sure that for once, something we are doing about our weight it going to work. Like, really work. And not just for a few months. Amurillo - Lol! Well, I am having my bloodwork done this Wednesday right after my Upper GI, so either way! And let me just tell you, I am going to be just a smidge heated if I have to face my biggest fear twice (needles) just because they had me do my bloodwork too early! Oh wow! That doesn't sound too bad at all! For some reason when I think "pre-op liquid diet" I imagine Water, watered down broth, ice chips, and maybe just to shake things up put the ice chip IN the water. *insert Emeril's BAM here* I know how you feel I hate them too but it's for a good cause so you have to do what you have to do lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

The upper gi last a year but the blood work can only be good for a month. I worded the wrong. Lol. You won't have to do that again. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I totally get that! I have been rather shy and embarrassed about this as well. Most of my friends and family have been pretty supportive, but others have seemed almost disgusted. My father being one of them I have an immense amount of respect for him and don't want to disappoint him, but he is one of those people that has just never struggled with weight. He firmly believes that if I just tried a little harder the weight would just come off. He doesn't understand that for me it just is not that simple. It is a little discouraging to be honest, but I still believe I am making the right choice. I understand about the age thing too. I am only 25, so people generally seem to hold the opinion that I am lazy and am using surgery to "take the easy way out". *snort* AS IF this is easy in any way lol Wow! That is so inspiring! I hope you don't mind if I ask you a few questions? How did you overcome the psychological aspect of not being able eat/chew for those first few months? And what about afterwards? After the first year or so, did you ever get back to a relatively "normal" diet? Obviously I don't mean back to the same eating patterns, but for example if you wanted to eat a slice of pizza at a birthday party would you be able to? What was the recovery from the surgery like? Was there a lot of pain? Sorry for all the questions! I have more but I'll hold them back in reserve haha I am here for you! It looks like you will be having your surgery about a month ahead of me. How has the process been for you so far? Hi Sarah! Looks like we will be having our procedures at about the same time! The 20 pound weight loss requirement may seem daunting, but I am sure you can do it! From what I understand, we have to go on an all liquids diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery anyway, and if what I have read is correct, most people lose at least 20 pounds during those 2 weeks anyways. So that might make it easier for you lol. How did you overcome the psychological aspect of not being able eat/chew for those first few months? And what about afterwards? Honestly, it wasn't hard the first couple of weeks. I was basically just trying to get enough Water then. There was some head-hunger, but if you stick to what you need to do, that will pass. After the first year or so, did you ever get back to a relatively "normal" diet? Obviously I don't mean back to the same eating patterns, but for example if you wanted to eat a slice of pizza at a birthday party would you be able to? Yes, after everything completely heals, much to my dismay, I realized I could eat pretty much everything. I tried the whole "everything in moderation" approach for a little, and that didn't work for me at all. I am a sugar addict (including carbs that metabolize to sugar). I can't have just a little. Just a little would set off terrible cravings and week-long eating binges. So, I am a stick to the plan religiously kinda gal. What was the recovery from the surgery like? Was there a lot of pain? Recovery from the sleeve surgery was pretty basic for me. I didn't have to take any pain meds once I left the hospital. There was a little discomfort, but not what I would call "pain,." The biggest thing in recovery was adjusting to eating/drinking again and being super tired. It took a good 6-8 weeks before my energy came back up to normal levels. The process has been easy but the wait is killing me. I have my fourth appointment next Monday. I'm super anxious about being approved since I have no comorbities but it's being going fast none the less. How is it going for you? -

Hey, I'm the same way! I should have it around July or August! Sent from my SPH-L710T using the BariatricPal App It's super nerve racking isn't it? Waiting those 6 months lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I just did the blood work, psyc, and nutritionist. Now need to do the meetings. And was told to practice eating one meal for 30 minutes. Sent from my SPH-L710T using the BariatricPal App My coordinator told me to do my blood work and upper gi toward the end of my 6 months because they only are valid for about a month for some reason lol. One of my problems is that I eat super fast I should try eating slower too Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?
Amurillo04 replied to needtorecover's topic in Rants & Raves
Everyone deserves to be treated like everyone else, with respect, regardless of their size but at the same time we've become so over sensitive to the word "fat" and "obese" that if anyone calls us that anyone who calls us it even with good intentions in their heart, we feel offended. My doctor has told me I'm obese and need to lose weight for my health and never once have a been offended however is someone was to call me a fatty or make fun of me I'd be very hurt. The line is very very thin. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I can't imagine how you feel but I am so very sorry for your loss. Counseling will not unbreak your heart but it will teach you how to cope with such a terrible loss. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Obesity is hard to beat especially because like you said, food is a huge part of some people's lives. When my mother got the surgery she was miserable and had many regrets but after 1 or 2 months she said she'd never go back. Once you start seeing all the benefits you'll realize it was worth it. My mother was so upset because when we went to resteraunts or buffets we'd eat like monsters and she could only nibble. Little did she know we were jealous because we wish we could control our eating and be losing weight lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Amurillo04 replied to *Samantha*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also a little more then halfway through as I have my fourth appointment in 12 days -I literally have a countdown app on my phone lol- when I found out about the 6 month diet I was so upset i figured I can do it myself in the time so I didn't even start. I wish I started sooner cause I'd probably be getting my surgery already. It is going by super quick though Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Mine was very easy and focused mostly on my relationship with food and my general mental health. It only took about 45 minutes and consisted of questions like do you eat when your sad? and how is your relationship with your family? Good luck on your journey:) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hey I am almost on my 4th out of 6th appointment with my doctor and we should probably have the sleeve around the same time as my last appointment is the end of June. I would love to have a person to discuss my worries and excitement with Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
It's only been 3 weeks and of course it's gonna be hard a surgeon literally cut out your stomach. You really need to try and see the positives and tell yourself it'll get better. There are people who wish they could be in a position to say they are losing weight. I haven't personally had it -yet, on in progress of getting an approval- but my mother has and she had the same regrets at first but now she's over 100 pounds down and would never go back. I hope you feel better. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Questions about 6 month appointment
Amurillo04 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hello all, I'm half way through my 6 month diet my fourth appointment is at the end of April. I have gone down from 231 to 224 but I am worried about keeping it off for my next appointment. If at my fourth appointment I am let's say 225 or 226 will it effect my insurance. Can they deny me for being heavier then the month before or is it as long as I'm under my initial weight of 231 and don't have a net gain I'm good. All this stuff is so confusing and anxiety provoking. I need this. -
Trying to deal with anxiety and depression during 6 month diet.
Amurillo04 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello all, I'm going through the process of getting approval for a gastric sleeve. I'm about half way done and I'm expecting to have surgery in by July. I've always been a generally sad and gloomy person and since starting my journey it has only gotten worse. I have some positive moments but they are soon clouded with negative thoughts like maybe I'll get denied and just ballon up more. I want this so bad but if something bad can happen it always will. This surgery will be a huge improvement for my life and I'm afraid it will slip through my hands because of something stupid and I just don't know how I will deal with that. How do you guys stay positive? Another contributor to my depression is my psoriasis that has been flaring up and the ointment is breaking out my face and I feel generally gross. Not to mention school stress. Has anyone dealt with psoriasis and did their surgery improve it? Sorry for such a long sob story but I had to vent. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
