I had my RNY on Tuesday, and am tolerating liquids ok. I was also able to mix 1/2 scoop of Protein shake powder with 8oz of Water, and sipped 1oz every 15 minutes, as advised by my surgeon. However, when I tried a teeny bit of yogurt, I had heartburn for 3 hours. I have to crush up my Nexium and anxiety medicine, and the taste literally makes me heave when mixed with water or Crystal Light. So that's why I tried the yogurt. I literally had maybe 1/4 of a teaspoon. So now I'm not sure when to try it again. I'm also finding that a few of my incisions are starting to itch. They were closed and a medical glue put over them, and I will not scratch them, but it's becoming more difficult not to. I hope tomorrow to have the courage to try one of the Bariatric Pal Soups, since I'm supposed to be able to try strained cream soups. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal

Hi All! My surgery is in 1 week. I've lost 8 pounds on the liver - reduction diet so far. I realized that my Weight Watchers scale is under my bathroom vanity. In the house I sold 9 months ago, 2000 miles away. So, I need a new one. ☺ I am wondering if I should get another WW scale, or if anyone here has another brand that is reliable. I've been comparing scales at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Amazon, but none really jump out. Any feedback is appreciated! I would like a body analysis scale, that shows BMI estimates and body fat, water, etc.

I am reading through the handbook my surgeon provided, and it cautions that post surgery, tomatoes may cause distress. I love tomatoes, and hope this does not happen. My birthday is tomorrow, and I was given a Miracle Gro Aerogarden with cherry tomato pods to grow indoors. I realize that I can't have any now, as I'm on the liver - reduction diet til my surgery on Tuesday, but my husband loves salad with tomatoes. Has anyone had trouble with tomatoes a few months after their bypass surgery?

Hi Everyone! I have been browsing through all the food items sold in the store on this site, and am wondering if anyone has tried any of the soups? My surgery is on the 16th, and I know that soups will be an option, within a few weeks. I saw that there is a variety pack with soups without any solids, which is what I'd need. Also saw there is Sloppy Joe for months later, and pasta. Any input on anything would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

When in is it safe to have a drink?

I also had to sign a contract about never drinking or smoking again after surgery. They also have you tested for tobacco use at the pre-op testing. If you fail, no surgery. -
Weight loss at six weeks.. Why so little
Jennifree replied to tbehrens510's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you getting enough protein? That can hinder weight loss. Also, remember that you are losing fat but gaining muscle, which weighs more. You really can't rely on the scale alone for progress. Hope this helps! -
Packing list for the hospital...BRING HEADPHONES (and mp3 player/radio!)!

I plan on rocking my Hello Kitty robe and slippers at the hospital. Great idea about the ear buds! Surgery is in 2 weeks for me. -
Hi Everyone, I'm a newbie here. My surgery is set for Feb 16. I'm wondering what I will feel like waking up from surgery. I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago laproscopically, so I know about the gas they fill you up with... Is there much pain, though? I know they will have me up and walking hours after surgery, and I'd just like a heads-up on how others felt. Thanks! :-)

I remember waking up from the gallbladder surgery in a lot of pain from the gas. It was horrible. It was such a relief when I was able to get rid of some, but so embarrassing!!

Great to hear!! I feel the same way..my normal weight is around 150. Seems too low to get there, but I have faith in me.

Oh no! That must have such a relief for you! I am so hoping to be able to wear VS again, or even Juicy Couture anything for the first time in my life. Thanks for the story- it's something to keep in mind because I would have panicked too. My surgery is Feb 16, so I use all the help now! -
I have had GERD my entire life. My RNY surgery is February 16. Is it typical for it to go away right after surgery, since you no longer have a big stomach to hold all the acid? My anxiety is kicking in since I start the liver reduction diet on Tuesday, and there is soo much acid right now... take Nexium daily, and don't want to have to buy more if I don't have to. My insurance "prefers" that I buy it OTC.

I start mine on Tuesday. Protein shake for breakfast, another for lunch, along with either a half cup of sugar free pudding or applesauce. Afternoon snack of 4oz of light yogurt. Dinner is 2oz of chicken or turkey and 1 cup of veggies. Sugar free popsicles are allowed to help get your 64oz of liquids. I am really nervous that I'll be soo hungry. I am going to stick to it. I want no chance of them rescheduling the surgery if I don't!!
