  1. I'm still going through my 6 month waiting period before I get approved and hopefully will be ready by October or November. My question is - everyone says that after surgery, you should do alot of walking to get rid of the gas. How much walking per day are we talking about?
  2. I finally completed the Tufts 6 month program and they approved the surgery with-in 24 hours. Now the problem is getting the surgery scheduled - they are so booked up.
  3. Looks like you were one of the lucky ones!
  4. For those of you who are banded - are you able to sleep on your stomach at some point AFTER you recover from surgery or will the port be in the way??? I am one who really sleeps better on my stomach and an worried that those days might soom be over.

    Sleeping Positions

Thanks for all your feedback - there is hope out there that I will be able to return to normal at some point. Surgery is still a month away.
  6. I had my first appt back in Feb of 08 - then found out that my insurance makes you wait for 6 months. By the time the paperwork was filed, my 6 months ended on 10/2. Now, they are so busy with these surgeries, they are squeezing me in on 11.19 at a different hospital (same surgeon) because the other hospital is booked through December. Hopefully, now you can see you didn't have it all that bad. I was frustrated MANY times. I still won't believe it until it's actually over with.

    Post Op Discomfort

My doctor told me to take a week off. So I plan on taking the week off - and if I'm able to be up and about - then I will try to do household chores while I'm hanging around at home.
  8. Tammy - my name is Lori - I'm scheduled the same day as you. We should stay in touch to compare notes.
  9. Thanks for the tips - I had planned on going out tomorrow to start stocking up on things - 4 weeks to go
  10. Mine is November 19th - I'm excited and scared!!! I'm hoping to be back to work by Thanksgiving - since I will not be able eat - I figured I would work.

    A Nov. Bandster Buddy???

I will also be banded on November 19th - I just got the date today. I live in Massachusetts and would love to keep in touch to compate notes. They are telling us here that they do not keep us overnight, they are sending people home the same day as the surgery. How about you?
  12. My first appt with the surgeon was in February 2008, by the time my paperwork was sent in to my insurance - they make us go through a 6 month wait. I finally completed it on October 2 and was finally given a surgery date of 11/19th. Boy was this quite the journey. My surgeon does not require a 2-week pre-op liquid diet but he will not operate if we gain any weight. As usual, I avoid the scale so now I have to tackle it because I have 1 month to get ready for this.
  13. I'm curious, my insurance was just approved and I'm just waiting for a date to be scheduled. For those of you who have been successful, which proteins were easy to digest with the band? I'm not a fish lover - just shellfish. And what about eggs???

I'm testing to see if it works
  16. Thanks!!! I can see me having lots of yogurt, eggs & cheese.
  17. just out of curiosity - could you eat the chips?
  18. call me stupid but how do you get the ticker onto your profile?
  19. What did you think of the 6 month program? How much time passed between the completion and the surgery date?
  20. My friends boyfriend had the same thing happen to him - unfortunately, he had to go back in to have some if the fill removed. Good luck!
  21. I am currently going through the 6 month wait period that my insurance requires. If all goes well, I'm looking at late Oct/early Nov for my surgery.
  22. I've been very frustrated having to wait the 6 months. I started doing everything in January and I'm gaining weight, not losing. If all goes well, I will be eligable for surgery in October (that's a total of 10 months from when I started). But even then , the surgeon said it takes another 3 weeks to schedule the surgery. And if I get denied, then all this time wasted was for nothing.
  23. What part of MA are you looking for? There are some very good doctors in Western MA
  24. I have Tufts - they make you go through a 6 month "I Can Change" program. They are phone appointments with a counselor. I just finished the first 2 months. Tufts will only cover the lapband if you have high cholesterol, diabetes or another medical condition OR you must have a BMI of 40 or higher. Good luck!
  25. I had a stress test. They make you walk the treadmill at the pace that's most comfortable for you and once your heartbeat gets to the point they are looking for, you can stop at any time. Mine came back with a slight blip which they said could be a false positive for someone my age (45) so I had to go back. The 2nd test they inject you with something, you walk the treadmill again and then they have a machine check the bloodflow to your heart. Mine was fine.
