ice cream addiction has me stalled long term
LSF replied to kyethra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started buying the Skinny Cow & Weight Watchers small cups so that I can still get my ice cream fix but it's portion controlled. -
I have been banded for 1 1/2 years and never had a problem with rice or pasta. For bread, I now buy the bagel flats or flat bread sandwich rolls, I toast them and make sandwiches on them. It's great for burgers also.
-
I have no problems with it and I'm pretty tight right now. Rice & pasta actually help me to get meat down the band. Bread for me needs to be toasted - I usually use the "flat bread" to make sandwiched etc

How long does it take you to eat a meal?
LSF replied to cookielover's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
At work - we get 30 minutes - I'll be lucky if I can even get a 1/2 cup down in that time. At home, it takes me an hour - if I have a burger or a sandwich on flatbread - it takes me a good hour to get it down. That is with nothing wlse to eat. -
Yes - I can only eat very small meals so I usually have something every 3 hours, it could be a cheese stick or some almonds. I also make the fat free pudding with skim milk and put it in the mini pie crusts. That is my special dessert treat every day.
-
I ALWAYS wait until at least 2 weeks after a fill before I eat bread and then it has to be toasted. Good luck!

stress and a band...should I remove it
LSF replied to freespirit63's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That happens to me when I stress out and I find that exercise helps to relieve it. If I'm at work, I just need to chill out and it will go away. -
I'm curious - how are you feeling now?
-
I'm over a year out and still eat every 2 hours - just a small snack like a cheese stick or some nuts. Yes my weight loss is slow but it's healthy. good luck!

I woke up in the middle of the night coughing and after I took a sip of water, all hell broke loose. I have been dry heaving with the occasional vomiting for 12 hours now. I'm hoping it's because of some meat I ate last night that may have been bad and not the band. I am feeling the nausea which is not what normally happens to me when I've been stuck etc... My last fill was 11/2/09 and am at 10.75 cc's, I have good restriction but have still been able to eat reasonable amounts of food with plenty of liquid all this time. Until today! Could it be food poisoning?

A VERY strange (possibly offensive) question. ***read at your own risk...***
LSF replied to Weas123's topic in The Gals' Room
I would say to just make sure that your stomach is not too full from eating - then you will be fine when you have to "Swallow" -
I take liquid Nyquil but I always lose more weight when I have a cold because I can hardly eat - just soup.
-
I would think that if you were too tight, that you wouldn't be able to get any liquid down, much less food. If I eat or drink too fast - I PB - but as long as I go slow - it's not a problem. Some days are better than others, I also noticed that if I eat too much 1 day, then the next day I can hardly eat at all.
-
If it's any consolation, I have the lapband - I can eat anything - bread included but in moderation. I learn over time how I'm able to tolerate certain foods. For example - a hot dog - I can it it on a bun but only 1/2. That's fine with me. I can eat Pasta, pizza etc but not as much as I did before surgery and I just take it slow. I started buying the flatbread sandwich rolls - I toast them and make deli sandwiches on them or hamburgers. You won;t throw up as long as you are careful but that is something that you will learn what your limits are.

how many cc's for restriction 14cc
LSF replied to Alfie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Don't feel too bad. I also have a 14cc band and didn't start feeling good restriction until I had 7.5 - 8cc's. I'm at 10.75 now. I'm sure by your next visit - you will start feeling it more - in the meantime, start adding exercise to your week and it will help. -
I just found out that my company is changing Insurance for 2010 to Cigna. I had the Lap Band surgery in 11/08 - if you have Cigna - how are they after surgery? I'm worried that my surgeon doesn't take Cigna.

I agree - the Premier from Costco is my favorite!!!

What happens when you fill your band to the max?
LSF replied to BellaNena's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nancy - the lapband surgery for me was my first also - I was so scared that I was crying as they were wheeling me in for surgery. They put a mask on my face and the next thing I knew - I was waking up. It not very invasive so it wasn't that bad at all - the worst part for me was the nausea from the anesthetic. -
I can take Tylenol, Advil etc..., I did have a problem with a certain brand of iron pill because it wasn't disolving fast enough and would always get stuck. I just don't take the horse pill size vitamins anymore, I switched to chewables. I also keep liquid Tylenol on hand just in case I'm too tight for pills. And I make sure to have liquid cold medicine on hand like Nyquil since It's easier to get down.

Good luck to you!! I had my surgery at Noble - it wasn't much better than the stories I'm hearing about at Baystate. I started off with a fabulous nurse and then later I got stuck with one that was an idiot! Just got home from my latest fill from Fiallo - I only had him give me 1/4 cc - hopefully this will last through the New Year.
-
I find that pills go down much easier at night when my band is looser. I'm too tight in the mornings to take anything.

how many cc's for restriction 14cc
LSF replied to Alfie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It seems like anytime someone had a cold etc... it's hard to eat with the band. I lost more weight the last time I had a cold than any other time while I've had the band. Hope you are feeling better! -
How long have you had your band without complications?
LSF posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm interesred in hearing about the lifespan of the band. Anyone out there that have had it for more than 3 years without slippage etc.....? -
Has anyone had to switch insurance after they were banded? I have had Tufts for 15 years which paid for my surgery but next year our company is switching to Cigna. My bigest fear is any complications that could arise after the switch.

As I've gone in for more fills and have gotten tighter, I can no longer eat food first thing in the morning so that is when I have a protein drink for breakfast. For now, I would keep eating food - with each fill you will see your restriction change more & more. I wouldn't eat them as well as solids UNLESS you found yourself only able to eat a few bites with each meal - then suppliment it with a protein drink.
