  1. I have this exact same problem!!! I love going out and partying with my friends but really have to watch the calories. I stick to wine (90 calories a glass) and try to limit it to about three glasses, which normally gets me really tipsy. However, even those extra 300 calories can be bad news. I'm seriously thinking of switching to pot...
  2. Hi, Firstly, my sincere condolences to you about your mom. Nearly everyone on the board knows at least partially what you're going through as almost everyone has lost someone in their lives. Losing a mom is really hard, and losing her unexpectedly is even more difficult. If you feel you need time to grieve and be with family, then I would see if I could postpone my surgery until I felt emotionally stable enough to handle such a big life change on top of another life-changing event. However, if your concern is the safety of the surgery itself, do feel confident. There is a huge difference between being a healthy 30-something going into surgery and someone who is in their 60's with significant health issues. You are 100% right that doing this will spare you the health issues your mom faced. I'm sure she would want the healthiest life possible for you. You will come through the surgery absolutely fine. Take care and all the best with your decision.

    Cottege Cheese...IDEAS!

I like to take some cinnamon and splenda and mix it into my cottage cheese, then spread it on toast. It is a most delicious breakfast.
  4. Hi! I would say it is totally normal, especially because you don't have a fill. Having no fill is like not having a band at all. I too can eat any foods (except one time I PB'd on sushi): bread, Pasta, rice, pizza, celery, nuts, etc. I do get the golfball from time to time, but otherwise I can eat any food. I have a fill of 1cc in a 4cc band.

Here's a great breakfast: Take cottage cheese and mix with cinnamon and splenda to taste, then put it on top of toast and eat. YUMMMMM!

I just had the best salad

I like this same salad only with gorgonzola cheese. It's one of my favorite foods...
  7. I found out by accident that holding my breath relieves PB pain. I started doing it instinctively and it does work.

Hi All, Could my fill be kicking in after nearly three weeks??? The last three days I have had perfect restriction. Like where I can eat any food I want, but I am full after about one cup. Is it possible??? On Saturday, I ate one Indian samosa (an appetizer filled with potato, peas, and onion, wrapped in dough, and deep fried) and I was full all day until 10:00pm at night!!! Then yesterday, I had 3/4 of a slice of pizza (could not finish the whole slice!!!), a cup of an Indian snack made out of corn flakes for lunch, and for dinner, I had a tiny salad, a little piece of a roll with a roasted pepper, and a couple bites (maybe 1/2 cup total) of my entree which was gnocci and sausage. I was stuffed. This morning I ate one high-fiber english muffin with Omega 3 Peanut Butter spread on it and I'm still full at 3:00pm! The scale is moving too!!! If it's possible to suddenly be at my sweet spot after one fill, enjoying food, eating small amounts of everything, and losing weight, I'm going to be very happy! We'll see how long it lasts!
  9. Tybalt, Don't be nervous. I was soooo nervous in the OR and I came very close to backing out. Surgery went totally smoothly and recovery was uncomfortable but there was no "excrutiating" or "unbearable" pain. The worst was definitely the gas pains, but they went away after about three weeks. I would recommend omitting all dairy products right after surgery. I never had a problem with dairy but after surgery my gas did not go away until I stopped dairy. I actually look back on my recovery and think with fondness about being pampered and waited on hand and foot! I also caught up on some wonderful tv and fabulous reading. My husband and best friend fixed all my Soups and drinks and medications for me, and I basically spent two weeks absolutely relaxing. I am now just over two months post-op and feeling very well, going to the gym almost every day, and enjoying getting some restriction (finally!) after my first fill. This surgery is a breeze to most surgeons. I read a post on here that said her surgeon said doing a LAP Band was like "clipping a toenail" in terms of how easy it is. You will be totally fine. Good luck!

I am making a public promise.

Hi, I have a terrible problem with staying off the scale. I am currently weighing twice a day!!! I can't even get it down to once a day! I'm way more addicted to the scale than I am to any food! I am going to try and re-committ to weighing once a week, but it's sooo darn hard...

    Er

I'm so glad you posted this. It helped me make my decision. I was debating if I should get fill #2 right before I went travelling out of town. I have now decided against it because the same thing could happen to me (I currently have 1cc in a 4cc band) as happened to you, and I sure don't want to be far from my doc if anything like that were to happen. So glad you're feeling better!
  12. My doc had me on full liquids for four weeks. I only stayed on them for only three weeks though, and then moved to both mushies and solids early with permission from my doctor. Here was his suggested schedule: Liquids: four weeks Mushies: two weeks Then solids Here's what I did: Liquids: three weeks Mushies: 1.5 weeks Soft solids: 1.5 weeks Then solids My doc was totally fine with my progression.

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to check in as I've been busy for awhile. JanectC you are AWESOME. I marvel at how you take such time and care to address everyone in our group. Isn't JanetC awesome you guys? Well, actually, everyone is awesome! I have had my metabolism tested before and it said I burned 1,600 calories at rest. Since I am largely inactive except for the gym, I figure I burn only a total of about 2,200 calories a day, inlcuding the gym. (How many calories does driving and other daily activites burn? Not much I assume!) So that means to lose two pounds a week, I can only eat 1,200 a day and if I go over I will lose less. I've been really trying to stick to that but sometimes I eat more like 1,500-1,700. Since my last fill the scale had been crawling slowly. I've lost (depending on the day) at least two pounds and maybe even four (I fluctuate so much and the last few days I've eaten Chinese food which makes me retain lots of water). I scheduled another fill for May 3rd, which would be four weeks from my last fill. I feel like I can eat too much still. For example, last night for dinner I ate an egg roll, a bowl of hot and sour soup, and about a cup and a half of Hunan chicken and rice. I think that's about what I would have eaten pre-band! It's too much. I'm going to post this same question on the "fills" forum, but does anyone think four weeks is too soon for a second fill? Also, I am traveling two days later and am very nervous about something going wrong or being too tight and being far away from my doc. Should I reschedule? What do you guys think??? I've been doing the elliptical machine, you guys, and it HURTS like you would not believe. I am so sore I can hardly walk!!! LOL! Tammy: Glad to hear you have restrcition finally!!!

Do you drink with your meals?

I am supposed to stop for an hour before and not drink for an hour afterwards. So far, I do not at all follow the "waiting one hour before" rule. I do, however, always follow the "no drinking during or for one hour after" rule and have not have a problem with it. Rarely, if I eat something very salty (Chinese food) or spicy, I will sip a tiny bit to rinse my mouth out before the hour is up. I thought that not drinking with meals would be the hardest rule to follow and have been very pleasantly surprised that this has been quite easy for me. I do wish I could be better about the drinking before rule. I do tend to drink right up to my meals alot. For example, I really like having a nice glass of wine and sometimes it is not possible to have wine 1/2 hour before the meal. Espcially when eating out, it is always served right before the meal. So I'm bad about that rule but then again I don't see why my doc wants me to stop drinking an hour before meals anyway.
  15. I am bad with salty crunchy things like doritos, chips, and Mcdonald's fries. I particulary love really bad things like KFC snackers and bonless buffalo wings. I have only indulged in fast food three times since surgery two months ago (less than once every two weeks!!!), which is down from 3-4 riimes a week before surgery. And those times I ate really small amounts. But definitely salty/crunchy over sweet for me.

    She's Come Undone

The most amazing thing about this book is that it was written by a man. No offense to men; I love em! But I was shocked to see how exactly, precisely, and totally this author got inside the head of the main character. I was blown away actually. It's a fabulous fabulous book.

    What is unjury?

Unjury is the best protien powder I have tried because it mixes totally smooth (no gross lumps: ICK!) and has a vastly superior taste.

Feeling hopeless and like a failure

If I lost 40 pounds in about five and a half months, I would be thrilled. That's almost two pounds a week!!!!!! That is what we're supposed to be losing. The band isn't the bypass and the slower we lose, the less loose skin we have, the longer the weight stays off, the less risk we have of gall stones and hair loss, etc. I am jealous of people who can consistently lose 1-2 pounds a week. I would be delighted with that loss.
  19. I had to do TWO Passover dinners and one Easter, all in one week! I only have 1cc in a 4cc 10cm band and have very little restriction. So I'd say I didn't do very well. I didn't gain any weight, but also have not lost any weight in about five weeks. I think I need more fill, and fast!

Are you aiming for a bikini bod?

I don't think I will ever have a bikini body, because even when I weighed 140 pounds and was 17 years old, I had horrible cellulite all over my legs. I think my legs are deformed. Actually, even when I was 10 and weighed 109 pounds, I had cellulite. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it no matter how much I lose. I'm not talking mild cellulite, I'm talking massive, horrible cellulite as if I have elephantitis or something (no disrespect to those who may have, or know someone who has, actual elephantitis). I would be thrilled if I got down to a size 12. In fact, I can't even imagine being that small...
  21. I agree with editing the title. I thought my day was going to suck today after reading that heading. Glad I'm not going to be depressed all day!
  22. Hi, I just had my first fill: 1 cc in a 4cc 10cm band. I'm starving almost all the time and get hungry every two-three hours. I haven't been able to lose any weight since two weeks after surgery and am anxiously awaiting my next fill which I really hope will do the trick.

    Have you even eaten...

Yes to everything except I PB'd on sushi (I ate it with the rice which is what I think the problem was). I have 1cc in a 4cc 10cm band. Champage? Well when I helped my friend move we polished off three bottles between four people! It was amazingly delicious and nothing happened, not even extra gas. I have also had a Coke Zero but have since been really cutting back on carbonation since no one knows what effect it can have on the band. My doctor's office told me it's ok to have, but since the jury is really out, I'm trying to limit it. That being said, you can rest assured I will be drinking champage in the future.

Ideas for mushies on Easter ?

Splurge on some chicken croquettes from the local diner. Mmmmm mmmm so delicious. You could get takeout so you could have your special entree while others are enjoying their ham. I ate chicken croquettes alot during mushies (just take off the outer fried shell and eat the mushy, delicious innards!). Also, whipped sweet potatoes, butternut squash, veggies are all delicious.

This is a little risky and personal

My doctor's instructions said four weeks.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAH! That didn't happen. Most people on here say their doctors tell them to do it whenever they feel ready.
