not trying to scare anyone but

Oh wow. How tragic. So sorry about your friend.
  2. Book~ Thanks for the info on the ports. That makes total sense!
  3. Lap~ holy schmokes chicka... you look FANTASTIC! You need to add that last photo into your profile. Vaa vaa vaa voom. Widow~ Ask DrK about that port thing. I think that is hogwash. I doubt that he would put our port somewhere else and charge us more?? Seems ridiculous. I would be peeved if I found out I had to pay to move my port in the future. I went with MissMona yesterday for her first fill. She went to a surgeon up in Flagstaff who does it under Fluoro. He was so young and yummy! lol I was VERY VERY impressed with his office staff and the program there. Even though it will be a 4 hour drive for me, I think I am going to join his program and do my aftercare with him. It just does not make sense to fly back and forth to Colorado. Plus I really like the idea that all my fills would be done under Flouro. I also got weighed yesterday while there and found out I lost another 6 pounds since I was weighed at Dr K's office on Friday. Right now I am more focusing on healing, but was thrilled to see that. I am sure I will gain some back once I get to mushies! Speaking of which, still not there, but I am on full liquids now and have been eating baby food and today I had oatmeal for breakfast! It was like heaven in a bowl. Yumm yumm. I also pulled off my surgery dressings and my incisions are doing great! I even slept on my tummy last night! YEAH! :frown: Here are a few pictures... Mona and I, Mona and our new hotty fill surgeon, and my scars one week out.
  4. Thanks all... I hope to be more of a cutie soon!! Tee hee. I told Dr K I would make some gorgeous AFTER photos for his website! ha ha. I am a modest one aren't I? *wink*

    This Happened to Me

I hope the antibiotics keep the infection away. How nerve wracking! I also had bleeding from my port incision but it got under control the same night and my surgeon re-dressed it the next morning. I am freaked about infection so I can't imagine how freaked you are. :hugs:

    Jan 17th??

I think I am not getting enough food in. I have been straining soups and drinking the liquid or having a glass of V8 fusion. I haven't been keeping track of calories, I am sure it is too low. I tried doing one of my protein shakes but it gagged me. Didn't bother me before surgery... so not sure why I can't stomach it now. Same with SF Jello... YUCK.
  8. Great pic Lap... looking good! Just checking in. Doing good here. Last night I was very gassy and bloaty... and so annoyed by it! lol. Still not really hungry. I really think I need to be eating more. Right now I am straining Soup and drinking the liquid. That is sooo little though. I tried drinking my Protein Drink but just couldn't get much down. Too afraid it would bloat me more. Still too soon to move onto full liquids, but I am soooo ready for some oatmeal! Just thought I would share a few pics from my surgery day. :w00t:
  9. Hi everyone... I am back in AZ finally. Dr. K is awesome. I was so impressed with him. So talented with an excellent bedside manner to boot! I am so fortunate to have him as my surgeon. My surgery was uneventful. I had a lot of nausea when I woke up. They maxed me out on the nausea meds and told me I had to eat Jello to get my blood sugar up. Jello just made me feel like vomiting. I was pretty miserable for the first hour or two after I woke up. I eventually got over the nausea and didn't have any issues with vomiting. Thankfully! My port incision bled pretty heavily after a few hours of being home. I think I tried to do to much by myself. I got up out of the chair without help so I wouldn't bother anyone and I think that strained my incision too much. The front of my shirt was covered in blood and it took about 3 changes of gauze before it stopped bleeding through. Dr K was great and called me right back. Had me come into the office the next morning and he cleaned it up and put a new clear patch over it. Everything looks good now. I just hope I didn't open myself up to infection. *cossing fingers* My pain has been very good! I really am just more uncomfortable than anything. Gas pain in the shoulder sucked ass for about 2 days, but that is pretty much a memory now. My throat was sore and annoyed me a bunch too. Also now just a memory. I thought I would feel worse than I do. Very pleased that I am able to walk around and move around pretty easily. I even cooked dinner for my in-laws the night after my surgery! I am pretty tired right now. Been sleeping a lot the past 2 days. Lack of food I am sure is the reason. I am so sick of broth, juice and water. Hubby picked up some V8 Fusion for me today. I am hoping that will give me some more nutrition. I also had some strained out soup earlier. Man that tasted sooo good. I can wait until I can move onto full liquids and add oatmeal into my daily intake! So that is about it. Gas pain and throat pain were the worst part of it for me. Much much easier recovery so far than I thought it would be.
  10. I would talk with your surgeon. Every surgeon is different. I didn't have to do a liquid pre-op, I did a low carb Atkins like diet. I lost 20 lbs pre-op. It was HARD but I did it. Check with your surgeon.
  11. Yes I flew. The flight back was fine. I was worried about nausea since I had a lot right out of surgery, but it was a non issue. I took bottled water with me. Had a glass of juice in the morning before I got to the airport. Honestly, I am NOT hungry right now. Sipping on the water was hard enough! lol I was outpatient. I believe all of Dr K's are. My surgery was at 1pm. It started a tad late. I woke up in recovery at 3ish. The first hour I was pretty much out of it. Around 4pm my husband was allowed back and I finally got out of there about 4:45. I had a lot of nausea and they were nervous letting me go, but I wanted to leave! lol I have no hunger right now. I have to keep reminding myself to drink my fluids. I am only 3 days post op though. I was very strict on my pre-op. No sugar. NO carbs. Period. I did it for three weeks instead of two. I lost 20 pounds on the pre-op. Dr K told my husband that my liver was "perfect" just the way he wanted it for surgery. As far as the last supper. I never really did one. I started my pre-op before I ever really thought about it. Last supper the night before surgery, absolutely NOT. That would defeat the whole purpose of doing the diet. If you really need or want to do it, get it out of the way now. I did have a nice big steak dinner with my hubby a few days before surgery, but it fell within the no carb diet. I had steak and salad. So I guess in that respect I had a nice "last supper". Ask away. I will answer as best I can to MY experience. Everyone is different. I don't mind answering.
  12. Viri~ Yes... keep that in mind! Silly me, too stubborn to ask for help. I am pretty good at using my leg muscles and avoiding straining my abdomen now!

    Liquid Diet Rant

Hang in there! You can do it. Pre-op was HARD.. but so worth it. I lost 20lbs on my pre-op. Now 3 days post-op I am not even interested in eating! It takes me all day to down a glass of V8 fusion. So weird. Hang in there!

    Jan 17th??

Hey my fellow 17 bandsters. I am doing pretty good. Pain is pretty much not there, just discomfort. Had issues with my port incision bleeding pretty bad first day out, but surgeon took care of that for me. Gas pain and throat pain were the pits the first two days. Today I am feeling excellent. Throat pain is gone and gas pain is more just bloaty than anything. No more sharp pains in the shoulder.

Dr. Will not let me drive!!!

My Dr didn't give me any restrictions on driving. I am not on any pain meds so I don't see why I couldn't if I wanted to? I will gauge how I feel. At this point (3 days post-op) I wouldn't have a problem driving somewhere.
  16. adorkbl

How few calories are you taking in post-op?

I am not counting right now. I am struggling just to get a glass of juice finished. I am just not hungry. I am only 3 days post-op though.

  18. Thanks everyone for the encouraging words! I am doing MUCH MUCH better today. Excited as shit! Woo hoo! I am all packed! My flight leaves early this morning. I get off work at 6am, race home to get the hubby, race to the airport, flight leaves at 8am, land at 11:35am in Denver, pre-op appointment at 1pm. :fear: I am crossing my fingers I make my pre-op appointment! I hear y'all have snow today and it is going to be coooooold. I just hope that doesn't delay my plane... or I may be meeting with the good Dr the morning of my Surgery. Eek! Doh! Tomorrow is my big day! Yeah yeah! :boxing: I will call Mona and let her know how I am doing. Not sure I will have internet access again until Sunday, so she can update y'all. Dynamo~ Glad to hear Todd is out of the hospital. Everything on hold to something else happens? That is kind of scary. Viri~ I am right there with ya girly on freaking out about the money. I think that is why this decision has been so freaking HARD. If insurance would pay for it, I wouldn't be second guessing everything! Hang in there. I know two bills seems harder than one large bill, but if the interest rates are going to be higher, you need to do what is better for the long run! So split them up if you have to! I have my credit card and then my surgery bill. They are both 0% right now, but one raises sooner than the other, so it made sense to split them up. I will let you know how it goes! hehe. I have a feeling I will be joining in with other ladies here telling you to go for it! :thumb: And YOU ARE WORTH IT! Deevah~ Welcome... welcome!! These 2 weeks will go SOOOO freaking fast! Isn't everyone at Dr. K's office sooo nice. Out of the all the surgeons and seminars I went to (ok only 5 surgeons and 2 seminars) Dr K's staff has been the ONLY friendly ones.
  19. Y'all can ignore my last post. Just freaking out a little. Again. Oye.

starting BMI over 50? come on in!

Hi! I am getting banded on the 17th. BMI is 57 now. Was up to 60 at one point. Just lost 20 on my low carb pre-op diet. Very inspiring to see the successes high BMI'ers have had! Keep up the amazing work! I hope to be there someday too.

    Jan 17th??

Welcome. I am also getting banded on the 17th!
  23. Hey everyone! How's it going. Question: Did anyone have second thoughts right before? I mean like 2 days before? lol. I have had several people comment on how I lost the 20lbs and maybe I should give it a go without. Asking me if I am sure. Yadda yadda. I was sure. Now I am wishy washy. Again! lol I KNOW I can lose it. That has never been an issue. It is the keeping it off. I am hoping the Band will keep me on track and keep it off. I guess I am so scared this isn't going to work either and now I am going to be 10,000 more in the hole. Ack. Who knows what I am trying to say. I think I am ready. My husband is 100% sure this is right. He says I have an obsessive personality. Says right now I am obsessed with weight loss so I am doing great... but once the shine wears off I will get re-obsessed with something else and devote all my energy there. I think the money thing makes this the hardest freaking decision ever. Damn insurance! lol
