  1. Oh sorry... just wanted to add. I have never heard of the surgeon you posted.
  2. I guess it depends on who your insurance will cover. I was self pay so I went to Colorado for my surgery. I tried to find aftercare here in Tucson and had no luck. I am doing my aftercare in Flagstaff with Dr Berger. Mainly chose him because he uses Fluoro for fills. I love him. I went with a friend for her fill and thought the facilities were excellent and I love the fact that he does fills under fluoro. I went to a seminar for Dr Blackstone (Scottsdale) and was impressed with her. Had planned on using her in the beginning of my research, until I found out my insurance wasn't going to pay. I also heard she is better for RNY than she is LapBands, that she prefers to do RNY and the majority of her practice is such. That info came from antoher surgeon's staff... so I take that with a grain of salt. *shrug* I was very impressed with WLIAZ Dr DeBarros & Dr Orris (Tempe). I was going to use them for my follow up care originally, but their program is spendy for a self payer. They are VERY good surgeons and are considered amongst the top 3 in the region. There is also Dr. Chiasson and Dr. Burpee out of Northwest Hospital in Tucson. I got a great impression from their staff, very friendly. Did not attend their seminar or research them fully. I was looking into them for aftercare. I was NOT impressed with Dr. Schwartz's staff (Tucson). At all. I guess initially I was disappointed he wouldn't take me for aftercare, but out of all the places I called, his staff took the longest to respond and were not friendly. That was enough for me to know I did not want to have to deal with that office on a long term basis. In all fairness, I have not met with him personally, nor I have researched his practice. He was out of my price range. Your best bet is to check out ObesityHelp.com. They have a lot of surgeons profiles, along with reviews. That might help you narrow down who you want to look into first. Here is the link for LapBand surgeons in AZ with a profile there. Good luck!
  3. I think it is gone. I wish I could redo my list also. I REALLY appreciated that feature.

    Post-Op "Diet" question...

Ang.. I was very low on my caloric intake as well. I probably still am (finally on mushies). When I was on liquids I would strain veg soup or drink a campbells soup at hand. Not many calories there. I was very lethargic all the time. I was pretty bad about my Water intake also. I have always drank a lot with my meals, so I just don't think about it between meals. Really hard adjustment for me. Now that I am on mushies I blend slasa and pinto Beans and sprinkle cheese on top. Soooo good. Still not a ton of calories. But better than the measly 300 I was getting on liquids. I wouldn't worry unless you feel dizzy or sick. Just keep doing the best you can.
  5. Cool cool BaHot... that would be awesome. Hopefully eventually I can afford one again, but right now the shit has hit the fan in my house. Oye. guess it is time to kick the non rent paying sister out and start taking care of myself, instead of everyone else.
  6. Brandy~ Ok cool. Here's to hoping he is in a good mood! lol. *cheers* Amieru~ Enjoy your membership! We looked into joining LA Fitness yesterday, actually had a really good price because of the Law Enforcement discount they offer. Soooo glad we didn't sign up though because of the whole tax thing. Walking outside and training for my 5K is the only exercise I can afford today. Free! lol.

    baby food

I do the fruits only. Yummm. Tried peas, blech!
  11. Dee~ YEAH! Welcome to band land. Or should I say... welcome BANDITO! :frown: :frown: So glad to hear you are doing well. FW~ I also agree with the what is meant to be, is meant to be. But I don't think your financing is falling through is a sign to stop. Just means that financing wasn't meant to be, something better is out there. You just need to keep looking! As for your child and college. I put myself through college. It sucked, but I appreciated it more because I worked my ass off for it. My dad helped with my rent, which was awesome. Well he died shortly after I graduated. I would give anything to have him back. If there was an operation that he could have had that would have prolonged his life, I would have given every cent back he ever gave me for rent. Every cent. Your health is so very important. You are in that 2 week window before surgery, that was the HARDEST time for me. I wanted to back out soooo many times. Hang in there. I sill am too new out of surgery to say I am 100% glad I did this. Ask me when I am finally able to eat again! lol. But I am glad I didn't back out and I see a light at the end of the tunnel. For the first time in a long time I have hope that I can finally control food, rather than it controlling me. So banditos... I am finally onto mushies! YEAH. I ate some Pinots and cheese yesterday and it was heaven. lol. Now my tummy is making more noise than ever. I m going to pick up some cottage cheese and other goodies in a bit. I was going to get some hummus too. Yummm. Think it would be ok to have it on Wheat Pita Bread? If I chewed hewed chewed? Or no good? I was thinking of toasting it, if that makes a difference.

    Calling all AZ Monthly Lunchoen(ers)

Now y'all need to meet up on the EAST side of Phoenix so us Tucson folk can make it. Sorry I missed it.
  13. Seriously Lap that is so cool! I have my proficiency in ASL. It has been about 7 years since I have used it so it has all but left me. I really wish I would have kept up with it! I LOVED it. I would love your job. Have a question for you gals. I am doing really well, feeling great. My incisions are healing nicely. My problem is I am all of a sudden having some port pain. Or what I perceive as port pain. I used to be able to sleep on my sides and my stomach, but last night I had a hard time getting comfy. My stomach is very tender all of a sudden. I am not running a fever so I am not worried about an infection per say... but I am just curious why now, 1+ week after that I am having some discomfort. Anyone else have that?
  14. I would trust the surgeon. If he is only using it at places of high tension... I am sure he has good reason for that. Best of luck with your upcoming surgery. You must be so excited!
  15. LAND AND SEA TRAVEL The following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Security’s website. JANUARY 31, 2008 U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to present either a WHTI-compliant document, or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. DHS also proposes to begin alternative procedures for U.S. and Canadian children at that time. LATER At a later date, to be determined, the departments will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have either a U.S. passport; a U.S. passport card; a trusted traveler card such as NEXUS, FAST, or SENTRI; a valid Merchant Mariner Document (MMD) when traveling in conjunction with official maritime business; or a valid U.S. Military identification card when traveling on official orders. Note: The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory.
  16. She has some type of kidney disease and I think she had to have part removed or biopsied? I know she would have several aattacks a year... not sure if she still does. She also had uterine cancer and went through a lot of chemo and radiation before the finally removed everything. She is one strong cookie. Beat the cancer and is still fiesty and lovable as ever. I can't imagine dealing with that in a 30 minute span. Yikes. Hopefully when the pain meds wear off, the pain will be gone! :cursing: Then you can go snowboarding! Wheeeee
  17. I was banded on the 17th. I haven't even scheduled a fill nor am I worried about it right now. Your stomach is still healing. I agree waiting til March seems like a long time, but maybe that is for the best. My surgeon told me I could have a fill 1 month out, but the surgeon I am going to for fills is more conservative and won't do it before 6 weeks out.

getting banded on 1/28 and scared

I was scared also. Never had surgery... was worried about going under. The day of the surgery though I was just excited. Couldn't wait for it to be over. My husband said something that totally calmed my nerves, so I will share it with you. He said if someone told you that by driving to work you had a 1 in 2000 chance of getting killed, would you not drive? Probably wouldn't stop you. And that is just driving to work. This surgery will change your life! Also I knew that in my family, the likelyhood of me having to have heart bypass surgery in my 50's or 60's would be a REAL possibility given my family history. So I would much rather go under the knife in a controled situation, ie I chose to with good health, than have to go for an emergency surgery under poor health. You will do fine! :cursing:

    I'm officially banded, and home!

    Congrats guys! :cursing:
  21. Congrats ANG! Welcome to the other side. I hope today is treating you well. Day 3 for some reason was my most exhausting day!
  22. Om gosh Mal. What a bummer. Did it just come on suddenly? I have never had them but one of my friends has frequent bouts with them. Poor girl. I hope you feel better soon! Do they just go away on their own?
  23. The surgery center will not allow you to have surgery if there is no one that will be with you for the 24 hours after. At least that is what I was told. I had my husband with me. He ended up sightseeing with his cousin and I just laid around his aunt's house recouperating. I NEEDED someone there with me after. As it was I pushed myself too much and had trouble with my incision bleeding through and had to see Dr K the day after to re-dress it. Can your mother watch your child for a few days while your husband is with you? Or another relative?
