Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

NEVER be embarrassed at your weight fluctuations! EVER. We ALL have them. And yes, your fill should hopefully kick things up for you. It all depends though, remember we are all different. It took me 3 fills to get any type of restriction. So be patient! I am so glad you are feeling a bit better. If the fit doesn't feel right, find someone else. I had a horrible experience in college with a therapist who FELL ASLEEP on me in session. I was SEVERELY depressed and suicidal... it was horrible horrible. I am so fortunate I made it through without permanent distain for the field. It took me A LONG time to EVER trust another therapist, but eventually I found a wonderful wonderful woman who helped me immensely. I just wish I could have taken her with me in my pocket when I moved to AZ. I would rather end up being too loose than too tight. I felt a bit frustrated at my "small" fills as well. I got 2cc's, 2cc's and then 1cc. I did wish at the time that my follow up surgeon had been a bit more aggressive, but now in hind sight, I am glad for the extra time to adjust to the band. If I had gotten to restriction with my first fill, I am not sure I would have been able to handle it! lol. I know I would have pushed it and tested it. I personally think 3.8cc's for a first fill is aggressive. Work with it, see how it feels, kick the tires a bit. It is always easy to go in and get some more put in. Being too tight, PB'ing, getting stuck, having problems would be no fun, and could harm the band long term. Remember... this is a journey, not a race. You will get there. You will be successful. Lap... so glad you finally have answers. I hope the PT helps your pain!! -

First off congrats on your 2 pounds!! Yeah!!! Secondly... OMG Are you ok?? That sounded awful!! I am a 911 dispatcher and share your loathing of going in an ambulance... quick to send one, resistant to go in one myself lol. Awww Dee... (((HUGS))) I am so sorry you are having a rough time right now. Please feel free to call me if you need to talk. Anytime!! I hope the therapist will help. I worked with a therapist to manage my depression and it was the best thing I ever did for my mental health. Haha... thanks for the "warning". :cool2: Actually hubby had his out and had drain tubes and was out of work for 3 weeks. I just thought he was being a baby. Guess I should have kept my mouth shut. Karma.  On the Palm Pilot. I would have died. lol. Wow. Sophie is still chewing on stuff. She got a hold of one of my running shoes yesterday and chewed up the laces and a bit of the heel but thankfully they are still usable. Last night hubby and I were trying to sleep when we heard this weird sound, turn on the light and Sophie had chewed a three inch strip of wallpaper off the wall! It was a border that was painted over by the previous owners... how she found this one little strip of wallpaper UNDER paint is beyond me! lol. Crazy dog. on the skirt on the ribbon :sneaky: on the poop eating LOL I don't think it is crazy at all. I was considering it as well... but decided to work part time for another police department so I could make more money to pay off my surgery loan. I was considering Starbucks for the same reasons... great benefits, looked fun, free coffee!!! lol. In the end I decided it might be dangerous to be around so many yummy liquid things that would fly past my band. lol Yeah congrats on your pound!!! Woot! :huh2: Oh my!!! Thanks for the giggle. Hubby and I were both laughing about the singed whiskers. *snort* Silly kitty. -

My husband was really freaked in the store, my skin was really clammy and cold but my face was dripping. I just thought maybe it was delayed from anesthesia??? But it has been 6 days. I haven't taken any vicodin for the last 2 days. Maybe it is withdrawals. ha ha.. kidding. I did overdo it a bit in the yard this morning and didn't eat until 4pm (I know bad Lori bad...) so it is possible it could be blood sugar, but this happened after a good meal (salmon cakes... yum) so I am not sure if that is it. I am trying to research it online but am not having much luck. I don't want to bug my surgeon so late so I will hold out til the AM. And no worries... I know chocolate is OFF limits. Thanks! -

Question: I broke out in horrible cold sweats today while out shopping with the hubby. I was FREEZING but I was sweating like a pig. (do pigs even sweat?) Anyway... I have also had some wicked diarrhea today as well. Is this just side effects from anesthesia still? Should I be concerned? One of my incisions is fairly red and angry looking, but it is not pussy or hot so I think it is ok. Just so worried about getting the band infected. And off topic question: Is it ok to feed doggie's Popsicles? lol. Sophie had half my banana Popsicle and LOVED it. Is it ok to feed her one as a treat occasionally? -

Congrats on your loss!!!! Sorry about your stuck episode. I guess I am confused about the difference between being stuck and PB'ing. What you described is exactly what I went through... got stuck, lots of pain and sliming, had to come back up. Is that a PB or stuck or the same or both? lol I know what you mean about being worried about throwing it up and hurting something, but honestly what else can you do when you are stuck? Obviously try your darndest not to do it, but beyond that, sometimes it just happens. I didn't notice any pain in my ribcage afterwards for me. I do pay attention to every ache and pain more though!! And I am still very aware of my port, more so when I am laying down. Awesome job Dee! WTG on the exercise. How are you feeling otherwise??? Any better? -

I weigh myself everyday too, and i don't think it is bad. As long as you realize the body fluctuates up to 3 pounds a day. In the mornings I am always my lightest. At night I am always between 2-4 pounds more than in the AM. If you get stressed because you weigh daily, then it can become a bad thing. Sorry you are missing your daughter. I am sure she will be missing you as well. I LOVED college. My first year in the dorm was some of the best times of my life! Way to go missy! Excellent week!! :wink2: Great job! It took me 3 fills to even get any restriction, and I still wish I had just a tad more. Good attitude to have though... as long as you are losing!! Every pound adds up! Good work! Great job!! Keep up the good work. I agree.... anything less than you started with is a great thing!! -

Thanks Greenie =) I got off and on and off and on and off and on. LOL. I even moved the scale around. This last 2 weeks has been so wonky with the ER visit and surgery, I really don't know what to think. I have NEVER lost this quickly, except during the liquid phase right after surgery in January. I just hope it stays off. lol. I have a feelig it is going to bounce up a bit once I start moving around more. -

So ladies as you can see I survived my surgery! Oh my did this one hurt... A LOT... more than the band. I didn't even have to take pain meds last time... I was grocery shopping and cooking the next day. This time... OYE... I was counting down the hours until I could take vicodin again. I had A LOT of pain. I could not even wipe when I went to the bathroom! lol! Argh. Sooo frustrating to only be able to lay on my back for days on end. Today is the FIRST day I have felt well enough to sit up and go on the computer. Unfortunately Sophie ate my laptop cord so my laptop in indisposed. Lucky for her she did it when I was high on vicodin so I could only muster a muffled whimpery cry before passing back out. ha ha. Bad puppy. I am feeling excellent today. I even managed a short walk with Sophie today. My goals went out the window. Don't know how I thought I was going to manage walks and strength training while recovering from surgery. Not sure if Dr K is just that much more gentle inside... or if having something cut out is just that much more painful then having something clamped on. hehe. I weighed in today at 302 so I am ecstatic! I have lost all the bloaty and IV weight from surgery and then some. Probably helped that I was drugged up and not eating all week. We will see if it holds for tomorrows weigh in! Munchkin~ So sorry about your soon to be ex. How is he doing? How are you doing? I would help you with the pups but I am too far away. Did you decide on whether to postpone surgery or not? Lap~ Your scan sounded like fun! haha not! I hope the PT helps with your pain. Keep us updated. Greenie~ PB'ing... until this last fill I could honestly say I never slimed OR PB'd. I did have about 3 PB's the week of my fill until I got my shit together and worked on eating SLOWER and SMALLER bites. I have been PB free for a while now and hope to stay that way. I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. It happens. As long as you listen and correct your behavior. Daily PB's or several times a week in my opinion would be excessive and unhealthy! Oh and congrats on your 6 month bandiversary! =) Mini~ Your grandbaby is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing the photos! =) I had a lot of pages to skim so I hope I didn't miss anything too important! Don't forget ladies... tomorrow is our challenge WEIGH IN! -

Oh Marilyn... ((HUGS)) I hope your upper GI goes well this morning and everything turns out to be fine! I am thinking about you. Sending positive vibes your way. My port becomes more noticeable the more weight I lose. Specially when I am sleeping at night, I can feel it when I sleep on that side or my stomach. As far as a bump, I know some people during PS had a low profile port put it to replace the old one. I figure that is the least of my worries. If I get skinny enough to see it I will be thrilled!!! And I will wear that bump as my badge of honor. lol. Excellent missy! Thanks for checking in. I feel you on the bloating. I bloated something major last week but thankfully it ALL came off this week. Woot! Congrats on the pound! WTG!!! =) Good job on the exercise! I won't be back until late late tonight... IF I make it back on. I am headed to Tombstone with the fam today. And tomorrow is my surgery... finally! Yeah! Anyway as for my weigh in I am THRILLED thrilled THRILLED... I dropped the 6 I gained after my ER visit plus ONE... so I am down 7 total for this week. Soooo relieved! So my weigh in today is 307! As for my exercise I have been keeping up with it. I took Sophie for a 3 mile walk the other day and yesterday spent over 3 hour weeding, cutting grass, cleaning and cooking for a BBQ... and I am sore sore sore. LOVE my band... I do so much more!! I have updated who needs to be updated. This is what I have so far! Thanks... I know you are right. Tomorrow I will be back on track. :w00t: I went to sparkpeople to figure out an approximate of my slip... and it wasn't as bad as I thought... still bad, but under 1800 calories. I was thinking about going back to fix the haircut but am going to give it a bit more time. She cut it too short. The bangs are too short and it isn't angled like I wanted it. I haven't worked with it myself yet, still styled the way she had it, so we will see. It will grow out. Only hair! -

Congrats!!! That is wonderful! :w00t: Ok ladies I am having a BAD day. I cannot stop eating. *sigh* I think my restriction is wearing off. I had oatmeal for breakfast along with 2 Reeses PB cups ... then like 3 hours later I had a Lean Cuisine and TWO granola bars... then a protein bar for dinner and 10 meatballs. Ok typing it out it doesn't look as awful as I felt. But I feel like a pig. The oatmeal, LC, PB cups and granola bars were all in a 3 hour period, so that is where that comes from. totally felt like I was binging. Yes not binging as bad as I would have pre-band, but totally the same behavoir. Eating when I wasn't hungry. Ugh. I just need to chill. I am still up the 6 pounds that I gained freaking overnight from what I thought was IV fluid, but is obviously not. I think that has me kinda depressed. Plus I got a real shitty haircut last night that is bumming me out. -

My biggest loss was the month after surgery because of the restrictive diet. I did not get ANY restriction with my first 2 fills though. It took until my 3rd fill to finally get restriction. I still had a good rate of loss though until about month 4&5 where I gained and lost the same few pounds. HTH's! Thanks Natalie for putting that together!!! That was so nice of you. Wish I could have been there! Looked like it was a blast! Well ladies my first weigh in is a doosie! I spent a few hours in the ER last night with another gallbladder attack. Thankfully it is not infected so they didn't have to take it out last night. They pumped me full of IV fluids (two bags) and morphine... thank gawd lol... so I am PRAYING that that is the reason for my HUGE gain! I went up SIX pounds! So my initial weigh in is 314. *sigh* So for that reason I am adjusting my goal to 15lbs so I can hit twoterville. I am going to be out and about for a bit tonight... so I will add everyone in when I can get on next! -

Ugh... sorry you are having a hard time of it right now. My advice would be to fill up on protein and veggies. Stay away from carbs. In otherwords, gorge on a large steak if you are famished! lol. Good luck! I am having my gallbladder out on the 12th but luckily my surgeon is leaving my fill level alone. Wheew.
