Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
adorkbl replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Oh yeah, tomorrow is Thursday isn't it! Woot! haha. This is my third time seeing twoterville, I hope it STAYS this time! I am soooo sick of bouncing around in the 300-306 range. Like I said though, remaining positive, at least I am maintaining! so hard to let go of those goals I set when I first started... 100 pounds by this date, yadda yadda. But then again I didn't plan for all the setbacks, so I need to just be proud of where I am for the moment. 85 pounds is great in 11 months. -

My co-worker who is never sick had the same thing. She finally hauled her butt into the Dr for him to tell her it is just a virus that is going around right now. Drink hot fluids and rest. Hopefully that is all you have too. Hang in there. -

I am having such wonderful restriction right now it is so sad to think that it will all be gone soon as it slowly leaks out. But I am enjoying it right now!! At least I know what I have to look forward to once I get my port replaced!!! Restriction that sticks around for more than a week and a half. I stepped on the scale today and saw 299!!! Sad that I first saw this number FOUR months ago... but it has been a rough couple of months. It does mean I have lost everything I re-gained so that is my silver lining! I know I will probably re-gain again as I am unfilled after the port replacement, but it is nice to be reminded that this band really DOES work when it is working properly! Hopefully I will still be there come Thursday for my "official" weigh in. -
Have you had a leak in your port/tubing and had to have it replaced?
adorkbl replied to DrewsLou's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am pretty confident it is my port/tubing. I didn't really have any issues until I switched to him for fills. (Previouly I was traveling 9 hours round trip and having them done under Flouroscopy.) My first fill with him he withdrew what was in my band and I had 5cc's.... which was the level from my previous fill 2 months prior. (had my gallbladder removed and had to wait to start getting fills again). He overfilled me a smidge so I went in to have a little withdrawn and instantly had no restriction. Went back a week later and I had less in the band than I should have. I chalked it up to him withdrawing more than he told me. Got filled again, same thing, there was less the next time I went in. He has had a lot of difficulty finding my port and poked me several times. I am pretty sure that the puncture occured either the very first time, or when I went in for the slight unfill. In addition to all that, he says he has never seen a leak occur elsewhere. It either the port or tubing. I really hope it isn't a slow leak. I went through the same thing last time, I even cancelled my port replacment becuase I finally had restriction. Well it eventually got less and less and I went in to have it checked and it was still leaking. So I am just waiting for word on when they have the new port so I can schedule the replacement again. I think I knew that it was still leaking... but I just wanted so badly for everything to be ok. Ah well. I hope yours was a fluke and everything in ok now. Enjoy your restriction! -

I wouldn't expect restriction from your first fill. At least he gave you a good amount, so hopefully with #2 you will get there! Awesome!!! Congrats girl! That is terrific! -

Well I was nervous about the local but when Natalie said that Dr K wouldn't do it under local... he thought it was a bad idea to do it in that environment.... that made me even more nervous. I have done more research and found some other people who have had it done that way... so I guess I will just go for it and hope it all works out ok. Hubby's interview was for a temp agency apparently. So he is still looking. -

Sue... Seattle... CONGRATS on feeling some restriction again. I too was finally feeling some (was even too tight! imagine that) but alas it didn't last. Today I went in for a check-up fill and I was missing cc's again. So now I need to decide if I am going to replace the port under local with my new surgeon, or fly to Colorado and have it replaced with original surgeon under general. -

Short and sweet and to the point. My restriction went away this week again. Had a fill today, asked him to check my level, I lost a cc over the past 2 weeks. :whatchutalkingabout So he is positive I have a leak. Put a call into Natalie. Not sure which direction I am going to go. I am nervous as hell to have my port replaced under local in the Dr office here... but can't afford to do the whole fly to Colorado, have it done under general, in a surgery center thing either. I am just so tired and bummed out today. I was really hoping it was a fluke and it wasn't leaking. *sigh* Challenge weigh in: I am up 1 pound. Thanks for the advice. I will keep that in mind when it gets tighter... right now I have been able to keep us afloat. His mom took him grocery shopping last night and insisted on paying... so they are helping us out there for now. Still no job although he does have an interview today. -

Mini: They aren't. Not one call back from all the apps he has put out. Frustrating. I am changing my withholdings and working as much as I can... but there just isn't OT here. I already work 50 hour weeks thankfully with my part time job... but still not enough to cover our bills. We are going to be hurting if he doesn't find something soon. His parents helped with Thanksgiving grocery bill and keep saying they will help where they can, but I really really don't want to have to ask for help. -

Thanks for the advise on the dress situation gals. I will talk to them at the store and see what they say about how far they can alter up or down. I actually have had a rough time of things over the past 10 months so I do think I will continue to lose as much in the next 10 (hopefully MORE) since I still have a long way to go. Unless of course my leak/non leak issue resurfaces. Ha. Oye. -

What is first bite syndrome??? Sounds like you are doing better missy. That sounds like a good amount of food to get in. Keep chewing!! =) I am trying to decide if I should get a scootch more added in or not this week. Is there a good way to measure your restriction? It totally depends on what I am eating! Oh and I need help deciding what to do about ordering a bridesmaid dress. My sister is getting married in September of next year and said I need to order my bridesmaid dress now because they may discontinue the style. Well I have NO CLUE what size I am going to be by then! I went from a 32 to a 24 in less than 10 months... so should I figure around the same for the next 10 months and order a 16?? I can't FATHOM fitting in that size so ordering it seems CRAZY. What to do what to do. -
Thanks missy. Sorry about your re-banding. Wow that would really put me over the edge. Glad to see you finally have things heading the right direction for you also! So far so good for me, I am definately experiencing restriction. Frustrating how some things go down no problem, and others cause all sorts of havoc. I figured out tonight rice is not my friend.

My band is leaking. Anyone else have this issue? Anyone have their port replaced? I am scared to have my port replaced and still never find restriction. Feel like I have been a freaking diet forever.

I think you sound too tight. Insides of 4 pieces of sushi is barely anything... & PB'ing on an apple. Just be careful! You need to get nutrition in. Make sure you are getting your protein in! HAPPY TURKEY DAY everyone! Gobble Gobble! I cooked for the first time for a large group. It turned out wonderful!! I made green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce from scratch, stuffing, rolls, gravy, turkey... yadda yadda... it was delish! I was able to eat enough to satisfy and not feel too restricted, but I was restricted enough that I couldn't finish round one! And dessert was about 3-4 bites of pie and I was done done done. I also weighed in this morning and I am down another 4 pounds. YEAH! So I am almost back to where I was pre-gallbladder surgery. I think my plateau may finally be gone. *crossing fingers* I still have restriction. Some things give me a hard time while others are too easy. I think I could go for just a scootch more but am happy to have any! -

My misheard lyric.... Bon Jovi's You Give Love A Bad Name. I remember skating to it at Skate University (our roller rink) singing on the top of my lungs... YOU GIVE LOVE A BAND AID! HA ha. -

Jaime it is probably still from swelling. Some people also feel some restriction from just the band alone. Maybe you are one of the lucky ones who will be able to go without a fill for awhile! -

Ha ha Jaime. Well at least I am not alone in that. Thanks for the feedback Mini. I feel so awful after it happened. Like I was doing something bad/wrong. But it had to come up, I was so miserable. Thankfully I am not that tight anymore, nor do I ever want to be! -
Seems like everyone is doing good! I have been on the mother of all plateus since I had my gallbladder out. Halloween tripped me up a bit. Who am I kidding.... A LOT! All those yummy mini chocolates hanging around work. I also had issues with finding ANY restriction in my band. Things seem to finally be working out now. I have some restriction. I am VERY excited. This is the first time since being banded I FEEL like I have been banded. Took A LONG time to get here. I hope the restriction sticks around. I am excited to put my band to the test for the holidays! =)

I too am wondering if he might have just missed it during the fill. Just because I didn't feel ANY restriction and I was suppossedly at 8cc's. I just don't see that much leaking out that quickly and then now it is sticking. On Wednesday I was so tight on 7cc's I had to have some backed out. I didn't experience any of that when I was at 8cc. Whatever the reason I am relieved to finally have restriction. I am at around 6.2cc's right now and it is a good level. I am still experimenting with how much I can eat or not. I seem to stay satisfied on around 3/4 cup of food. So far so good. Took me a LONG time to get here, hope it sticks around! Thanks for your support and feedback.

Since I am pretty new to this restriction game... I have a PB question. Last Wednesday when I was too tight I tried eating a bit of chili. I had a few small bites and it just sat and sat and sat. I was sliming and had a lot of chest pressure. It didn't feel like it would come up, but it wouldn't go down. After an hour of painful chest pressure I finally went to the bathroom and assisted in it coming back up. I felt instant relief! I am certain it wouldn't have gone down on it's own, but I think because it was chewed to a liquified state, it didn't seem to want to come up either. Is that normal? This isn't what people mean by PB is it? I didn't burp and then wham. It was kinda more like I gagged, coughed, and wham. -

Everyone has such wonderful things going on!! Dee thanks for being such a sweetie, you are always so thoughtful with words. I am so excited for you and your new job!!! YEAH! And your daughter getting accepted to CIA... WOW, awesome. You must be such a proud mama squirrel right now! =) Girl I have been burping like crazy now since I have the band. Don't think it will go away. When the food drops down, the air has to come up from below. I think it is the nature of the band. :w00t: How exciting!! Congrats on the new job!!!! Yeah! sorry bout your sliming PB episode. That sucks! -

Just a quick update on my possible leak. Like I mentioned to Tally... on Tuesday I went in and Dr Monash was able to pull out pretty much the entire 6cc's. Any loss was immeasurable. I was pretty excited to hear that. :w00t: He added 1 more cc to give me a bit more restriction since I felt I needed a bit more. Well it ended up being too much. I could barely get liquids down. A glass of water took an hour to drink. My Vivanno shake took almost 30 minutes for 3 sips to go down. I had to go back in yesterday and have him take a smidge back out. He took around .8cc back out and said we are in a good place now. If it continues to hold we will be adjusting with .2cc's or so from here on out. I think my sweet spot will fall in between 6 and 7 cc's. Six is a bit too loose and seven is too tight. I am so excited. :w00t: I feel like this is HUGE progress! I am excited to finally understand what restriction feels like. I am just so afraid it is going to go away. I feel like he took too much back out, but I want to give it 2 weeks before I adjust again. My tummy is sore from all the poking! I am down 4 pounds since last week. I had to buy a new scale because mine kept bouncing all over the place. Dr's scale and my new one pretty well match right now, so that is good. On a sad note, my husband got fired yesterday. They said it was work performance, but that is BS. I know it is because of his accident on the job. We are talking to a personal injury lawyer on Tuesday... and he wants us to talk to his colleague that handles employment law. I don't think there is anything we can do since AZ is a right to work state, but I am just so pissed about getting totally blindsided like that, we are going to meet with him. Happy Holidays, you're fired. Assholes. :cursing: :cursing: We can't make our mortgage without hubby working, so please keep us in your thoughts that he will find something quick! With the economy the way it is, I am a bit freaked about him rebounding quickly. -

AWESOME!!! CONGRATS! I went in on Tuesday and he extracted almost 6cc's. He said any loss was immeasurable. YEAH! He said he isn't sure where my loss came from before, possibly a seperation in the rubber between the hard and soft part that has resealed itself. But since I am experiencing restriction we are holding off on any procedures for now. Sounds too tight! glad to hear you back out a bit. Hope that helps!!! Keep us updated. How sickening! I hope it all got straightened out!
