I drink a little bit of Water and sip throughout my workout. I find if I eat a good dinner I am ok in the morning. I drink my Protein shake right after my workout. I don't want a sloshy water filled belly when I am working out. Otherwise occasionally I will eat a small apple for the carbs before a workout.

My Band Doesn't Work Like It Used To...
adorkbl replied to puddin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ugh. I had a huge response typed and it got lost in cyberspace. First of... Hi G!! You were a huge inspiration to me when I started my journey. I read your blog religiously (I miss it!!). I am probably not one to give advice considering my journey. Recently I had to have my band repositioned when I had a hiatal hernia repaired. When continplating yet another surgery I kicked my butt into high gear to see if I should keep my band or not. Started exercising tons, changed my diet drastically to work with my band and PCOS... and I saw success again... despite a wonky band. Now my band is fixed but empty... so I am dealing with hunger (which sucks!). But I am still kicking it into high gear with food and exercise. It is very time consuming. I am putting ME first. My point being... you know this. You did this. You spent hours upon hours counting calories, cycling, and exercising. You put YOU first. You had that ability and luxury. Now you have a husband and a special needs child. They are first. You are at most third on your priority list. Massaging stuck food through your band is not an ideal situation. Either the food choice is poor, the food quantity is poor, or there is something wrong with the band. You ruled out band issues... so perhaps you need to look at food choices? Great job on the post baby weight. Perhaps this is your new normal with everything going on in your life right now. Otherwise... maybe you can readjust your schedule to cycle another hour a day. Can you? I have never been that close to goal. But I hear over and over how the last 10-20 pounds are the hardest. I know you said your journey was easy before... but if you sat and wrote down the difference in your exercise and food from right now to then... would there be a difference? Your #1 focus right now is your beautiful son. As it should be. Those 25 hours of therapy a week were the hours you exercised before. Hours you could dedicate to your health. Now they are dedicated to your son's health. You will figure it out. I am not discounting that your band feels different to you. It may very well not be quite the same. But there also may be other factors that need examination. I wish you oodles of success in getting those last 20 off and finding balance with all your added priorities in life. -
Esophagitis After Being Banded???
adorkbl replied to Bailey Jan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hernia repair and band repositioning almost 4 weeks ago. My chest tightness is gone. Occasionally I still get shoulder tweaks... but no pressure. I had an endoscopy done prior to my surgery. It was an easy procedure. Over quickly. I hope you get some answers from your surgeon when you go for your fill appointment. -
I have lost 34 since April and I haven't logged a thing. I used to log my food neurotically. But it got harder and harder as I transitioned from pre packaged foods to home cooked meals. I just make sure my meals are low in carbs and sugar and high in Protein. Keep my portions in check. It has been working well and I have more time to focus on exercise, hobbies, & life. Doesn't feel like a diet as much. Do what works for you. I would have sworn last year logging every calorie was a necessity. Not so for me now.

Probably Tmi, But I'm Gunna Ask Anyway....
adorkbl replied to marfar7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I think it is an issue. At the very least go back to liquids!! It is not normal to vomit food eaten four days prior. Does your doctor have an answering service? Mine does and will call you back to at least consult over the phone on whether or not it needs to be addressed now. -

Unable To Access Port....
adorkbl replied to onmyway1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It happens. I don't know how "common" it is... but ports can flip, tilt, turn, etc. It may be possible for them to access it under fluoroscopy. If not, you may need an additional surgery to reposition it. Hopefully it won't come to that. -

Gall Bladder Issues Post Op
adorkbl replied to texas-bandette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took about 4 months to diagnose. They thought it was my band at first because symptoms presented about a month post op. I had looooots more testing done than listed.. but those were to rule out band issues. I actually had to switch PCP's because mine wanted to "wait" and see before doing a ultrasound and HIDA scan. I was NOT cool with that. Here is the info on a HIDA scan from Wiki: A cholescintigraphy scan, also known as: Hepatobiliary Iminodiacetic Acid HIDA, Paraisopropyl Iminodiacetic Acid PIPIDA, or Diisopropyl Iminodiacetic Acid DISIDA scan is a nuclear imaging procedure to evaluate the health and function of the gallbladder. A radioactive tracer, usually a 99Tc-iminodiacetic acid chelate complex, is injected through any accessible vein, then allowed to circulate to the liver, where it is excreted into the biliary system and stored by the gallbladder and biliary system.[1] In the absence of disease, the gallbladder is visualized within 1 hour of the injection of the radioactive tracer. If the gallbladder is not visualized within 4 hours after the injection, this indicates either cholecystitis or cystic duct obstruction. This investigation is usually conducted after an ultrasound examination of the abdominal right upper quadrant for pain. If the non-invasive ultrasound examination fails to demonstrate gall stones (or other obstruction to the gall bladder or biliary tree) in an attempt to establish a cause of right upper quadrant pain, this cholescintigraphy scan can be performed as a more sensitive and specific test. Cholescintigraphy scans are not generally done first line due to their increased cost and invasiveness. -
Oh no. That doesn't sound good. I hope the unfill will help. You would have to talk to your surgeon about other options. If there is an issue with your esophagus it may limit your options.

Gall Bladder Issues Post Op
adorkbl replied to texas-bandette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine removed 7 months post banding after losing about 80 pounds. It took awhile to diagnose mine since nothing showed up with CT scan, ultrasound, or bloodwork. Eventually I had a HIDA scan done which showed no stones... just that it stopped working. My pain was below my ribcage. Lots of nausea, sweating, intense pain. If it is your gallbladder... highly recoend removal. Best thing I ever did. The attacks were horrible!!! -
Congrats!! Awesome!!!

Lap Band Take 2, Fail Surgery #4 Success!!!! Now To Decide Whats Next!
adorkbl replied to emialiaubri's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hope your revision is approved. I would revise in your situation as well. I was just repositioned due to a hiatal hernia. If I had the option of a sleeve covered by insurance... I probably would have switched. I am just happy to have the band still in place for now... so far so good with the last surgery. Keep us updated! Wish you success! -
Warning: What I've Learned About Eating Slower....
adorkbl replied to marfar7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am sorry about your complications. I have PB'd occasionally... but never on a regular basis like that. I agree with you though that it is not a "light" matter like some people seem to want to make it. My PB's are violent... and while they may not have stomach acid... it definitely is not a good situation. Thankfully over the 4.5 years I have had the band... I would say I have PB'd less than 20 times. I hope that this time around it will be easier for you to focus on slowing down. Make that your main focus! (once you figure out what is going to happen) It is so hard to be mindful constantly. I struggled with the decision on whether to remove my band or reposition it. I opted to reposition it because insurance actually covered it (I was self-pay due to bariatric clause). I have been up and down on whether or not I made the right decision. My hunger is starting to return and I have 2 weeks until my "first" fill. I have been measuring my portions and eating slow. Well this afternoon I ate a little faster than I would have if I had restriction... and I was able to eat my entire lunch (1/2 cup spinach, 1/4 cup ground turkey, 1/2 avocado, and a pinch of cheese & salsa). Normally I eat about half to 2/3rd's and toss the rest. When I finished my plate at lunch today... I realized that my band really HAS been helping me. So I am glad I kept it. I hope you are able to keep yours and continue on your journey to your goal. Something obviously has to change with your behavior, you realize that, or at least it seems that way from your post. It is not worth permanent damage continuing with non-compliant eating behaviors. Thank you for sharing your struggle. None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes. -
If it has been 2 or 3 days I will drink a cup of coffee. Usually within the hour I go. Sometimes before I finish my cup!! Lol. I just bought the Vita gummies. I will see how that goes.
