  1. Hi , Ok here is my problem, I have had my band for 3 months and for 3 months I have had one very nasty work colleague constantly tell me that she hates fat people and that all fat people do is sit around eating and doing nothing. Every single week she has another comment for me in front of most of my other work mates - today it was that fat people are never healthy , don't exercise or eat properly, I have shrugged it off as ignorance but now I am beginning to feel like I am being discriminated / harassed and I don't really know what I can do about it as my boss will just tell me to sort it out myself. I am almost at my wits end and for the first time in my life am feeling like I could be pushed into a physical reaction. Please if you can help me!!!!

Help! how do I deal with this?

thank you - you are right Nat , she has a very warped view - I tell you what when she stood there right in front of me and my other overweight work mate and said point blank to my face that she HATES fat people cause " we are disgusting with no self pride " I almost snapped. I have lost nearly 20kgs now and am quite proud of myself , but when someone stands there and says " the only way you can lose weight is to eat good and exercise - which fat people don't do " knowing full well that I have had this surgery I nearly beat the crap out of her!! And shes not skinny either!!! I'm sorry to bore everyone with this but I don't think that I have felt rage like this ever!!!

Help! how do I deal with this?

Hi thank you guys for your advice - I feel a bit better having just got it off my chest , I think that I am going to have to pluck up the courage to have a word to her- I just hate the fact that she makes me feel like a 2nd class citizen! this woman actually thinks that she is being nice and tactful and doesn't realize that she is actually very nasty. The funny thing is I work for a legal firm and there is no HR department or anyone else to talk to !!! :Dancing_angry:man she makes me so angry!!!

    Has My Band Slipped????

Hi wow it really sounds like you are having a rough time of it, Ok dont panic the band doesnt actually move very much according to my surgeon slippage is when you end up stretching the small pouch created by the band moving it down a bit - its not like it completely slips down. If I were you for the next few days when you want to eat I would try eating mashies again and just taking it slowly. I hope that this has helped - but if you are really really worried you should call your surgeon again and ask him to put your mind at ease.

    How much time off work?

I had only planned for one week off but I found that I couldn't sit in a chair for to long without pain and I found that dressing was a bit hard everything I tried irritated my staples so in the end I wore a singlet with shorts sitting under my tummy, so I ended up taking two weeks. I would definitely recommend taking a bit longer even if you don"t think that you are going to need it - at least then you will be a bit further into the post op diet stages and will have more of a handle on what you can and can not do/ eat / drink. Good Luck

    lapbanders called cheats

WOW I am so sorry that you have all had negative comments ! :frown: I had my surgery in October and I must have told at least 150 now and I have only had one comment - " so you took the easy way out ?" to which I replied " no the easy way out would have been to carry on the way I was and accept that I was heading towards an early grave" well that shut them up !! At least we are not making fools out of ourselves on TV like the biggest losers! don't get me wrong I commend the fact that they are trying to do something about it but do you have to do it in front of the whole nation? I guess its a case of each to their own, But I would say to anyone - hold your head up high , be proud of yourselves and bugger everyone else. I hope that when you all decide to tell more people that you get better , kinder reactions.

    Doing the Deed

Hi ok well when you see the nurse she will pretty much want to know how much you know about the surgery and life afterwards, as long as you are informed and have made the decision with alot of thought you will be fine! Then I had to see the psyc for the review - thats who ultimitely will decide if you are ok to go through with it , mine just asked my why I had decided to at that point in my life, how I had been feeling etc - its really nothing to worry about!!! Tell your family that it really has nothing to do with them and if they still have something to say then just tell them you had a choice - pay for the surgery or pay for your own funeral cause if you dont do something about your weight you could be putting your life in danger, thats what I told everyone who had something to say and it pretty much shut everyone up haha. I paid for mine in full - it was just under $12 , 000 so it is a big commitment but very well worth it!! please if you have anymore questions send me an email and we can chat some more if you would like to : ) I hope I helped

I need to tell you all something

Hi Nat See you are already doing well !! you obviously have the right attitude!! you have already made the hardest decision so everything from here on in will take you down the path to the new and improved you! but just remember that it is a tool - you have to love yourself and know that you are worth it as well- which from the sounds of it you do. It isnt all going to be easy - trust me on that but just keep your goal in sight and you will get there! I told everyone at work and now have 40 new mothers watching EVERYTHING I put into my mouth this trick has made it sooo much easier to stick to it . Please do ask your dietician if he/ she is a naturopath for a tonic that will help or do go and see a naturopath for one I know the one that I had had valerian in it as well as a heap of other stuff and didnt make you feel crappy after taking it. It is well worth it!! :rolleyes2: Well good luck and please feel free to email me if you need to chat!!

    Doing the Deed

Hi Mrs M like you I was very very nervous about the anesthetic risk, but at the end of the day my doctor told me that the pre-op diet - which I hated was not only to shrink the liver but help get some weight off to make the surgery safer. Trust in the fact that you have a good doctor and that he/she would not put your life in danger if the risk was too high. Trust me you will go in and the next thing you will know is that you are done and on your way to your sweet spot!! after you come out is when all the hard but very exciting work starts! when you start seeing the weight drop off you will know that it is all going to be worth it. It is really ok to be scared and nervous - its only healthy! You can do this and will succeed at this!!! I do wish you all the luck in the world !!

I need to tell you all something

Hi I have been banded for over 3.5 months now and am very aware of what you are and what you will be going through, if I could give you a couple of pieces of advice it would be to take it one day at a time, forgive yourself if you do slip up and make sure that everyone that you socialize with is aware of what you are going to be doing - cause believe it or not if you have other people asking you about your progress etc you will not even want the fatty foods! the other thing that I would tell you / beg you to do if you think that you are going to go through withdrawals when you start the pre-op diet talk to your dietitian about natural pain killers!! I was in extreme pain - with headaches because I was a sugar junkie and within an hour of taking the natural tonic my dietitian made up for me I was human again! I wish all of you good luck with your journeys!
