Maybe not, who knows. I definately would have asked if there was an alternative!

I'm so sorry to hear you're still having a rough time of it but at least the surgeon has removed some fill. Hopefully in a couple of days your body will be back on track. When I wasn't well and not eating (unrelated to the band) I found gatorade and those kind of drinks helpful too. Good luck Em
-
No way! They were never even mentioned to me, thank goodness or I may have backed out of it! Sorry Sunwyse you're the first person I've heard that from!
-
Geez that's so weird that you're having so much trouble keeping food down and the surgeon won't take fill out! I know when I was that sick in Scotland, I was feeling lethargic and tired and once some fill was removed and i could keep stuff down I felt a million bucks again. Maybe he's thinking that once the hernia is repaired that it might affect your situation too. Good luck with the surgery - at least you don't have to wait ages - just get it over and done with! Em

That is awesome Cuddles. Fanny - I'll be stoked if I reach 35kgs in 11months (or 15kgs in 5months!)
-
Not really - I think it was to do with gas though. I got it when I was drinking coke zero so I've stopped drinkng that for a while

Katy - That hernia stuff sounds freaking horrific!!! I hope it all gets sorted out for you soon. Wade - good to hear you're doing well - that boob pain is harsh isn't it! Em
-
A hernia? That sucks! Hope you start feeling better soon.

Any advice in particular? Coz the best advice I ever got was "Don't eat yellow snow". Not sure if that helps or not Lapband wise you'll be fine. The op is really quick, just prepare yourself for about a week of discomfort. Make sure you take every painkiller they let you and if they give you the option of a couple of nights in hospital take it!
-
Yep I agree with Wade. I'd try and see someone else. 2 more weeks of that and you'll be so lethargic you won't be able to get out of bed! Fingers crossed things get better for you soon.

I've still got about 30kgs to go... I'd like to get to the low 70's. The only major prob I had was when I went to Europe. I'd been sick for 2 weeks before and not eating and then flew over to Scotland and couldn't keep anything down at all. Steve's people here worked overtime trying to find someone in Scotland to remove some fill but all the bariatric surgeons were on leave! I ended up just going to their royal infirmary in Emergency, talking to a couple of docs who had no idea about gastric banding but they finally found the one doc in scotland not on holidays. She removed 2mls and I was right as rain after that. Although I did put on a few kgs but totally worth it! So got to just over 97kgs before I went away (lost 5kgs in 2 weeks from not eating so not really a valid weight), just trying to get under the 100 again now.

Steve is awesome, you'll be fine!

I always do the scan for the toilets as we sit down at a restaurant. We eat out a bit, but try for tapas (small portions and you just stop ordering when you're full) or at normal restaurants fish or pasta.

Just on the topic of beer. My lovely boy got banded when I did and he was a MASSIVE beer drinker (don't get me wrong, he's not an alcoholic - just loves his beer). Since banding the only difference is that he gets drunker quicker! He can still drink beer although he does steer clear of the gassy ones. He's into the ales (kilkenny, guiness) and doesn't have a prob and he also drinks Corona ok too.

Hi, I'm on holidays from Australia travelling through Scotland and having problems with my band. Can anyone suggest a doctor in Edinburgh or Glasgow who could adjust the fill? Phone numbers would be great too. thanks emma
-
Thanks. yep I urgently need some fill removed as I can't keep anything other than liquids down. tried galloway but he's on holidays. Left a message for Carter. Will try the hospital too. Thanks heaps for the info

Awesome work! I too had a bit of a jog on Monday at the gym. A minute jogging at 8.5km/hr then walking for 3min at 6.4km/hr.. about 3 or 4 times. It was tough but I did get up to running for 15mins about 18mths ago when I was a bit lighter than I am now, so hopefully I can work my way up again.

Perth newbie waiting to be banded by Dr Stephen Watson

Ugh - I don't envy you the study/work thing. I did it for 7 years and didn't even have the hubby & Kids and still found it difficult for anything else! I try to exercise 5 days a week. Some weeks good some weeks not so good. Currently we go to a PT twice a week (although that will stop in a couple of weeks), play squash once a week, go to the gym once a week and try to do a walk on the weekend. We usually walk our dog for half an hour most nights too. Given your time constraints during the week, maybe you could take hubby and kids for a walk on the weekends. You can only do what you can do. I've read plenty of blogs of successful bandits who don't exercise very much, but I think it would help with toning which is my main concern. All the best, Em PS - You kinda know when you need a fill because you start to get hungry, eat more and don't lose as much. That's what I've found anyway. -
Perth newbie waiting to be banded by Dr Stephen Watson

I was also banded by Dr Watson in March. He's a great guy and makes you feel really comfortable and at ease. I had about 10 days off work after the op and was pretty uncomfortable till about Day 7 or 8 with terrible shoulder tip pain from gas and port pain. But turned the corner and have never looked back. I'd recommend staying the extra day in hospital - I left after the first day and regretted it. All the best, -
Yep, bread. The dodgy weather we've had here has had me craving for chip butties (chips in fresh bread with lots of butter)!!! mmmmmm
-
Yep same here. I feel sick if I try to eat breakfast.
-
I guess everyone's pain is relative to their own experiences. My partner and I were banded at the same time - he had very little pain but I was in agony for the 1st week. Extreme shoulder pain. I made sure I took the pain meds and started to walk around (hunched over) and that did start to elliviate the shoulder pain. By week 2 I was feeling a heap better. Hopefully you will too.

no fill and able to eat "normally" VERY SCARED

Geez that's unlucky! Hope it flips over eventually so you don't have to go through the xray thingo everytime! -
I have no prob with breakfast - usually have 1 weetbix and milk. For the first week after fill I rarely felt hungry at all but now I'm starting to again. For eg - I'm hungry right now at 10am! I have had a few PB and sliming episodes usually due to me not paying attention to how much i'm putting in my mouth and not chewing enough. I'm definately eating less though which is good - food left on a plate is a completely new concept for me!

No School - Lucky You!!! I had a jolly good PB today. Note to self - scones = bad.
