I had a routine physical at my doctors office a little while back and needed to fast for the blood work. I had a 2:30 pm appt. (was rescheduled from the am). Needless to say, I was very hungry by the time I left his office. Across the street was a Burger King. I walked in famished and ordered a whopper mushroom melt thing meal (for the record I very rarely eat fast food, even before surgery). I was only able to eat a little more than half the burger (no bread), a small handfull of fries and threw away the rest of the meal. This is why I love the band, even when I mentally slip up, I get that physical reminder.

down a pound this week. slow going, but if I can make it through the holidays without gaining anything (knock wood) I'll be happy. im going for a fill Jan 12. Haven't had one of those in 5 months....

That is great - i hope to be joining soon...

254...AGAIN ! Think I have to shake it up a bit. I actually lost like 4 ounces, but it has been a while on the 254 handle. Did make it through Thanksgiving and some work related travel without gaining - I'll try a little extra before Christmas comes to move the scale a bit...

Awesome - go for it ! Just be reasonable (the old marathon, not a sprint). Listen to your body. 20 years younger ? Nah, 20 years less experienced !!!

just by getting back on lbt will help - keeps me in the loop and focused. welcome back !

Surgery was very much a non-event. Out of the hospital 4 hours after surgery. I was anxious as well - it was also my first surgery of any kind. But it was really nothing, before you know it, you realize what a great decision the band is and what a great tool it can be...

yep, what Plain said. and i'll add - start exercising !

just noticed that - funny that there is a bunch of 41 year olds. we may give ceradad a pass - good to have the "youth" around....
-
We had a blast - bunch of college buddies made the trip, and I do have to say - although we were decked out in our green, we were treated very nicely (probably sympathy - and the fact that we were not giant fans). Even got invited to several post game dinners !!
-
While on the topic - we have been chatting in the mens room about the use of Protein and other supplements along the way - perhaps a discussion on that topic (hello sponsors !!). Sorry, NY Jet fan - although I was in Dallas last Thanksgiving to watch the Cowboys beat up on us....

Nothing gained, nothing lost. Holding at 254 (which is pretty weird, I think - I usually fluctuate quite a bit). Oh well. Patiently waiting for 240's...

Banding day will be here before you know it - the procedure is quick and simple for most. And the band is an amazing tool. Congratulations and good luck !

Dave - how tall are you ? My starting BMI was around 41 at 6'4" ish. I have been extremely happy with the band and have found it a great tool. I do my share as well. I see you have just recently been banded - goo dluck and let us know if you have any questions / struggles !

I was always skeptical to a lot of these protein mixes / glut supplemaents, etc... until I actually started losing weight and lifting / did cardio regularly. As posted above, as well as by Cera's dad, these things do make a difference. We are all closely watching what we eat and presumably all of us are focusing on protein for our regular meals, but becasue we are "challenging" our bodies (e.g., trying to lose weight AND gain muscle tone), we find ways to supplement (and I mean supplement - NOT substitute) that work for us and it is reassuring for me to hear it from others as well !!
-
glad to hear it !

You do have to pay for the nutritionist and they will bill you separately.

I was literally on the treadmill day after surgery and was able to walk around the mall. Different for everybody - I did not have a catheter and was discharged same day of surgery (around 4 hours after surgery)

I am very happy with my band and have lost quite a bit of weight. Dr. Besssler has a fantastic reputation as a surgeon. After you visit him for your post-op check-ups and then your first fill, your care is pretty much turned over to his excellent staff (Lorraine) who do your fills going forward. Don't get me wrong, Dr.Bessler is available (his office is down the hall from Lorraine), but I find that the arrangement works well - Lorraine can devote more time and is specifically focusing on post-op care and fills. I actually think Lorraine is more efficient with the fills, although that may be because Bessler did them when I was much heavier and the port may have been more difficult to access (don't get me wrong - not that my fill experience with bessler was bad - just a bit easier with Lorraine). Bessler also has nutrionists onsite and I found her very helpfull as well.

Same story as Ceradad - I was on the treadmill the day after surgery and have never looked back since...

I strictly try to use the shakes as a "supplement". That said, I think it would be hard for me to get all the protein I need any given day considering my work outs. I do the isopure fruity thingees. Not great - but not terrible either.
-
Sounds like a protein thing to me - are you getting enough without the shakes ? I would think that any drastic cut in protein would have an impact on your workout. I know I rely on my shake in the am (after I work out I do shake to "jump start" my protein intake for the day).

BigRick - down 57 lbs - that should be enough inspiration ! Keep at it...

good luck next week Goat !
