Pre-surgery process; I'm so discouraged.
Mom2_4 replied to LindaD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would shop around some more. My surgeons office was able to complete all preop testing including the psych and EGD in 2 appointments. These took several hours each time but it was done and over with after that which was great for me because I lived out of state. Good luck with the process! -
Do you count calories? Do you follow rules?
Mom2_4 replied to LundyLane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't count calories, occasionally I will do a rough estimate mainly to make sure I got enough for the day. I do not eat sugary things, I do try to stick with sugar free but I don't beat myself up if I do eat something sugary. I don't have anything with caffeine ever. I generally eat 3 meals per day, sometimes with a snack, sometimes not. I don't want to live my life on a 'diet' but I have changed my lifestyle significantly. As far as protein goes, I strive for 60, but often don't get past 50. -

Best of luck to you with your surgery!! It truly is a life changing experience, you have made a great choice. -
I have PCOS and my periods have never really been regular until recently. At one point, I hadn't had one in about a year or so and when I did get one, it was like super payback for not getting one for so long. Much like you described but it did let up after a few days but still lasted around 10 days. Another time, it happened and it would stop and start only giving me a day or so of peace and eventually I went to the ER and they gave me a prescription for birth control pills which made it stop and things became normal again. Hope you are feeling more normal soon!

Problems after airplane flight....
Mom2_4 replied to Marlu77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get really tight when I fly but it usually goes away in a day. I can literally feel it get tighter and tighter during flight. Hope you feel better soon. -
I would check with some of the surgeons that are in your area. I know the doctors bill the insurance much more than they actually get paid. I can't remember the exact amounts, but there was a huge difference between what they charged for and what they actually got from the insurance. I would say the best thing would be to make an appointment with a surgeon you are considering and let them run your insurance and see what they tell you that you will owe and go from there. Good luck!

Lap Band Journey Came to Screeching Halt Today!
Mom2_4 replied to singledad167's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would find a new PCP. I went to one who told me she didn't believe in weight loss surgery and didn't believe in weight loss meds. She was totally clueless so I moved on. -
I cleaned out my closet this weekend getting rid of clothes that no longer fit and the final count is 27 pairs of pants & jeans and 18 tops!! I celebrated this by buying a few new outfits! WooHoo!!

I do alot of fresh fruits for snacks. I also like Quaker mini delights, they are like 90 calories and are sooooo good. I don't do much snacking anymore though, my last fill has really shut off the need for any more food than at meal times, Finally!!

That is so great! Congratulations!!

I'm not sure if you are too tight or not. I personally had to teach myself t eat normally all over again after my last fill. I have found that if I take a bite, chew it to death, wait a full minute, take another bite, chew it to death, wait another minute, etc that I am able to eat exactly what I need. It is slowing down that is so hard to remember. It has been almost a month since my last fill when I hit the good restriction and took me 2 weeks of getting stuck and frustrated but I am totally satisfied with my 3 meals and almost never get hungry between meals. If this does not work for you, then you might be too tight and need to get unfilled a bit.

Victorious Valentine Exercise Challenge?
Mom2_4 replied to ReadySteadyGo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am in, but can't officially start for a week or so. We are leaving for vacation tomorrow morning. My only chance for structured exercise would be in the hotel, but I will be walking the theme parks nearly every day, doesn't that count  -
I've never heard of them. Might have to check them out.

Have you ever seen a 299 pound woman dance a jig?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! That is so awesome!! -
That is so awesome!! It would be so nice to have someone going through the same things in the house. My DH weighs like 140 and has forever so he doesn't have a clue what it is like to be overweight.

Congratulations!!

I didn't have any the first time but I had a bruise about the size of a quarter the second time. Took him a bit of maneuvering to get the port that time, so it was probably due to that.

I like reading Jodi Picoult, Debbie Macomber, John Grisham, Jennifer Weiner. I don't care for scifi or overdone romance. I also like true stories and true crime as well as books set in earlier times in history.

You look great!! -
I feel satisfied when I eat what is a normal meal for a bandster. The feeling is so amazing because I never expected to actually be able to eat so little and be happy about it. I can't say that I never have cravings for things I am not supposed to have, but it isn't very often and I don't feel bad if I indulge occasionally because I can't eat very much of whatever it is. My doctor has a $900 program fee, so I think you are probably getting a good deal with $300. Good luck with your appointment!!

I'm so glad they at least found the problem. I can only imagine how you had to have been feeling. Good luck with your repeat surgery!

10cc/4.75cc/I have very good restriction since my last fill

To me it was one stop shopping. I didn't go to a seminar because I live out of state. My first appointment, they went over their basics of how the program worked. They also started the preop testing. I went back a few weeks later and had the EGD, psych appt, and the rest of the preop testing. After that they submitted to my insurance and I had the surgery a few weeks later. I did go for another visit the day prior to surgery. I felt like they answered all of my questions and felt secure going into surgery. I had my surgery at Surgical Specialty and it was very nice. You also have the option of having it done at St. Lukes in Tempe but you aren't guaranteed a private room at St. Lukes and they say it isn't as nice. Good luck with your decision!
