    Rib discomfort??

I have rambling pains as well. I've had both shoulder blades, spine, ribs, top of shoulder all the way up back of neck to behind ear - either side! The pains go from feeling like I've caught a slight chill in my bones to someone sticking a knife in me. Thankfully, they are receding. I've taken de-gas (gas ex to you I think) and done a lot of laying down. It seems to help.

    I don't get it....

I'm still on liquid phase post op. No, I can guarantee the shakes don't fill you up. They do seem to take the edge off the hunger for me though. At present I'm having little often, about every 2 hours and that seems to get me through. Have you tried having a glass of Water 10 minutes before eating? That might help take the edge off before you eat and help to make you feel less hungry.

    Puzzled by my band!

Why do you think that you will be restricted because you've had a fill? The number of fills you get is individual. 1 more may do it, but you might need 3 more. No one knows until they reach that sweet spot. I don't think your doc will give you another fill yet. The stomach needs time to adjust to what has just happened. This isn't an instant fix, that will magically change us during surgery. It will take months for most of us before the real restriction begins. If you are on met, then chances are you have PCOS, that means really slow weight loss. But even if you have met for diabetes, you could well be insulin resistant anyway, which also means slow weight loss. Just know the weight loss will come, in the mean time enjoy life.

    Getting obsessed

My cucumbers and tomatoes have put up their heads and my eggplants are going well, first shoot came up yesterday. I've got a few more to plant, just got to get around to getting the potty mix ready.

    Getting pregnant with PCOS

Have you thought about trying complementary medicines? Acupuncture is supposed to be really good at helping the hormones to balance more naturally.

    Period Talk

I had something similar about 6 years ago, but that wasn't related to the band. I've heard quite a few women with PCOS get a quite heavy period not long after getting the band and then nothing for a while. Just the shake up to the system from the op I think. See your doctor, but also look at taking and iron supplement for the time being.

    Getting obsessed

Totally agree about the quality! I actually started growing my own veg and herbs a few weeks ago. I'm also planning on switching to being vegetarian in about a month's time. We will be able to get such a small amount in, compared to how it used to be, I plan to get as much good, living foods into me as possible - and definitely agree about quality over quantity!

    Getting obsessed

Hi Fanny, no probs about the long post, it makes a lot of sense actually. I've been a very good girl so far, only having liquids or custards which are thinned down with milk. And I'm having something roughly every 2 hours cause I may have been through weightloss surgery, but I still have quite a bulky body that needs a certain level of calories in order to function. I have to say though, my obsession with food isn't totally new. For years I've thought about becoming a professional cook because I wanted to learn about food, the technical stuff and the creative side. I guess I just have too much time on my hands right now and its taking over. Was a really interesting read.

    ?ctober ?dyssey 2008

Hi, I'm 3 days out. Still have pain from the gas and its seriously not funny anymore :smile2: I also have a feeling like indigestion sitting in the middle of my chest, whether I eat or not. My pain was in both shoulder blades, my spine, along either shoulder going up my neck to behind my ear. Mostly its just cut back to the occasional shoulder blade, but it can still get pretty bad. I'm on liquids, having custards or yoghurts which are thinned down with milk, optifast and I've just gotten myself some clear cup-a-soups and sustegen, which helps give you all the vits and mins you need in a balanced drink. I got it so I don't have to just have the optifast all the time. I've done some cleaning around the house, taking things slowly and today went out to do a little shopping. I just want the pain gone now so I can start to feel OK again.

2008 - The year the Whale died

I wasn't here for the start of the thread, but want to say well done. It is a hard road ahead, I've only just started. You've done fantastically and I'm sure you will meet your new goal.

    What no-one told me

Nope, these were given to me to help stop inflammation in the wound sites. I'd never heard of them either, but there you go.

Great News from the Big Fella

Damo, that's awesome. I only lost 2.4 in the whole two weeks, but then I was norty and ate things I shouldn't have. It got to the point where I was almost passing out at work, so I did it for the energy. Op was done and now I wouldn't change it for anything. Did what I needed to do at the time, I can live with that. Hey Bopper, I was done Wednesday with Dr Copp at greenslopes. You'll be fine. I'm still sore but I still think it was worth it.
  16. My op was 2 days ago, so I'm still in the recovery from op stage. Going into the op I had no concerns, no worries at all. My only concern was being on the 3rd floor because I have a fear of heights, but I had no doubts about the op itself. What I wasn't prepared for was not being able to get decent sleep. the drip machine kept beeping all night, just when I'd get into a good sleep and wake me up. Then there were the checks from nurses every hour. The cuts themselves caused no pain, just soreness, but the pain from gas was worse for me than most people describe. I had it in both shoulder blades, my spine and the right shoulder up to the back of my head. On top of that I was hungry and still am. I've just been given the go ahead to start other liquids besides clear, so I feel better. When I finally got home from hospital I felt like crying. I wondered what I had done to myself because of the discomfort, but that mood only lasted 10 minutes. At the end of the day, its only temporary and it will improve. It has already. The pain has almost all gone and I even did house work today. Only you can decide if the time to recover from the operation is really worth it. But you are basically giving up a week or so to discomfort for a life time of health and fitness. For me, that is worth it. Much of the recovery is mind over matter. If you listen to all the negative stories out there then you are going to go into this with a negative head space and make the recovery that much harder for yourself. I wasn't expecting to feel mourning (which is what I think it was) for what I had done, but I do fully believe that all that emotional and psychological work before hand helped me to move through that to where I am feeling really positive right now.

    Acting

Acting has been an interest of mine all my life. I did get involved a few years ago, studying it at uni and also tafe (a college), but never stayed with it. I let my weight get in the way. I was way too self-conscious. I'm getting the band soon and I'm thinking now I might be able to give this a really good go. If I don't have the weight to stop me, then I might just be able to stick with it long enough to have some fun. I'm not expecting a huge career now, but to at least be able to work in the industry, maybe just teaching others, would be a blast. Anybody else been interested in acting at all?

    Surgery Stories

I had mine done yesterday, only been back home a couple of hours. For me, the pain is in both shoulder blades, spine and top of right shoulder. The actual cuts themselves are just sore. Otherwise all went well. Didn't lose as much on the Optifast as the surgeon would have liked, but I put that down a bit to the pcos and a lot to my eating other foods (including bread!) because my job was so physically demanding, I almost passed out a few times. I'm now waiting for day 5, when all the pain stops and it all settles down, then I will enjoy myself

Is today the big day, Sunwyse?

Hi fanny, yes it was, it was all over with by the time you posted lol. Am back home now, quite sore. The incisions themselves don't hurt a big, just sore, but the shoulder tip pain is in my right shoulder, left and right shoulder blades and my spine. And I'm hungry!!!! *sigh* Only 2 weeks more to go. Thanks so much for the well wishes.

    ?ctober ?dyssey 2008

Ok, well surgery is tomorrow for me! 29th October comes a littler earlier this neck of the woods. So, hoping to be back on in 2 or 3 days. Good luck to everyone else getting done between now and when I get back.
  21. Ara, what do you mean your body can't handle 42 grams of protein at a time? Most modest main meals have around 90 grams.

I can tell you now, 28 pounds is not water weight!! Maybe 6 pounds, 8 pounds at most, but not the whole 28.

    Who are you telling?

My partner has started the "you won't be able to have that after" route. Sure I won't be able to have the fizzies, but I will be able to have ice cream sheesh. Not straight away and not much, but I will be able to have it occasionally. I just don't want him to start monitoring everything I eat.

Thanks Damo, Sam. Very excited about op, a little nervous about what floor I'll be on cause of my fear of heights. I have no doubt you'd done really well Damo!
