    Q bout cost in Brisbane

Hi Chickie, I have joined the group, I just thought there might be some people here who aren't there From what I can find out, it sure has gone up!
  2. Sunwyse

    What would you do???

If you are posting this question here, then you don't have confidence in her enough to go again. Confidence in the surgeon's ability is paramount to a successful recovery I believe. If you have doubts going into it, anything could happen. Definitely write this one off and request another surgeon or go and find another surgeon.
  3. You don't need it for the op but you do for your own health
  4. Can we hear a 'me too'? I first heard about the band from a friend on another forum, she had it Feb last year. It took me til October last year to decide I was going to do this. Then in December I read 'The Secret' and decided I could do this myself, I didn't need surgery. Well, um no. I can't. So the operation is back on and I've started making steps toward it. Currently I'm on a Meal Replacement diet, but only because I need to lose 4 or 5 kilos (8-10 pounds) to stop the back ache I feel a lot. Then I just need to monitor my weight until October this year when I can finally have the operation. Michelle

    I am so COLD!!!

Your body needs X amount of calories to be able to heat itself. It sounds like you aren't eating enough. And losing that much weight is far too much too quickly. It sets you up for all sorts of complications. Go and see your doctor ASAP and ask to have the fill adjusted. You need to be eating more!

    My update

Kylie, that's excellent news. woo hoo baby!! Just an aside, my sister and her partner live in Greensborough. We go to Melbourne roughly once a year to visit my family. I kinda grew up all over the northern side  Michelle

    Step 1.

Bronnie, that's excellent news! Congrats. It also gives me hope that I can get down to a size 12 at least (hoping for a size 10). Michelle
  8. I read on another website that just as you start to feel better from the surgery, you hit a wall. Exactly what all of you are describing. The explanation was it takes about 2 weeks for your body to figure out how to convert the fat for its caloric needs, so it sounds like you are all on track, just doesn't feel like it. Congrats on the success of the ops.
  9. I read about a friend's story on another forum I was on at the time. At first I was against this idea for me. 8 months later I changed my mind. I tried a couple of diets in that time and basically ended up bigger than I started. I'm 40, 4'11 or 5' (depending when I measure) and I don't know my weight in pounds, but my BMI is 45 so you can tell I'm not a small girl by any means, just a short one. I immediately took out health insurance and have to wait 12 months before they will pay for the op. That was October. In that time I've changed my mind, come back to banding then questioned if I should have some other surgery. I'm well known in my family for having a fluxuating mind! I am going ahead with the band. Surgery doesn't bother me. I've had my gall bladder out about 7 years ago and it was done through the same procedure as this one, so I know I'll be fine with that. What does concern me is the permanent change other methods make. At least with the band if something goes wrong it can be taken out and I'm basically back where I started. I don't for one minute consider myself not 'normal'. With obesity on the rise and more than 50% of people in my country being at least overweight, hey, I'm the normal one! I'm in the majority. Its just that the entertainment industry shoves skinny people down our through that we feel like lepers. I'm going ahead with the operation. I need the assistance of a little plastic band to help me to know when to stop eating. Fine. Some people need body parts to help them live a normal life. I need this instead. No big deal. If my eating habits have to change, then good, they aren't doing me a world of good now! As for complications, one of the biggest factors for a successful outcome is your state of mind when you go in. Being positive won't stop a complication if its going to happen, but it doesn't cause them either. I plan on being extremely positive about the whole process. Michelle
  10. Hi Ky, welcome to the forum and congrats on the surgery. I have to wait til October, but that's ok, it means I have plenty of time to research things and mentally prepare for what will happen. I'm in Brissy myself. Michelle

You all seem to have it so hard

Nope, you're right, no insurance company will pay for cosmetic surgery (which is what this is classed as). They will pay for plastic surgery, which is re-constructive, say after an accident, getting a hair-lip removed, things like that.

    Step 1.

That's great news about the date :tongue2: I've been told I might have to expect upto $10,000 out of pocket expenses. But I'm hoping that person didn't have health insurance. Does anybody know the best health insurance company to go with, to get the most cover?

    What do you think?

According to my screen you posted this one day and deleted it the next, or maybe where you are you posted it early morning and deleted it same night? You have to give people a chance to see what you post. There are lots of people on here all the time I'm sure, but maybe the people with the answers weren't on yet. Don't be in such a hurry.

    letter from Aetna

You know its possible that both sides are telling the truth. Maybe it was all faxed to the wrong number to begin with?

    Pasta Substitute

You can also cut long, thin strips of cabbage and steam it until cooked then put pasta sauce on it. It doesn't taste like spaghetti, but gives you the sensation of eating it.
  16. I can't get my op til October but I've started to remove coke from my diet. Well actually it started with coffee, then the coke zero went cause it has caffeine in it. Now I drink caffeine free, sugar free coke and very soon that will go as well and be replaced by cordial.

    baby food

Young babies aren't spitting it out, they simply haven't learnt to control their tongues yet. The action of sucking is completely different to swallowing, especially for bottle-fed babies. They have to learn to put there tongue in a completely different place and make a different action with it. Not easy while trying to eat at the same time. Actually, the baby food in Australia is quite tasty, but then I've never been a big salt fan. You need to remember baby food is made for babies. You have adult palates. They haven't had a chance to develop their tastes yet. And since baby food is made for their tastes and not adults, its not surprising you find it bland. Add a bit of spice like suggested and go for it. Otherwise, add a small amount of Protein powder to the fruits and custards and go with that instead.
  18. food divides into 3 categories and 3 only. Protien, Fat, Carbs. If it aint a fat or a carb its Protein. Doesn't matter what source it comes from, soy, animal or other plant. All protein is protein. There was a lot of confusion for vegetarians a few years back with people being advised to combine Proteins. Basically, theres about 14 animo acids we can't make ourselves so we have to get them from food. One of the easiest ways is from another animal, as all the ones we need are there. But you don't have to have animal flesh in order to be getting everything you need. And you don't have to combine plant-based proteins in order to get them all either. The body is an amazing thing. It will work with what you give it and then when you eat something else it will take what it needs from that. As long as you eat a variety of foods, you will get what you need. With regard to doomsaying. Simply ask yourself one question, what does this person get out of saying that? There are numerous warnings about soy, but who are making these warnings? I've only heard anti-soy comments from pro-meat advocates. Asian cultures, especially Japan and China, have lived on soy for centuries. I do not think they have a substantially higher rate of Alzheimers.

    I've got the "BREAKFAST BLUES"!!

What about a liquid breakfast? In Australia we have a product called "up and go" which is essentially a bowl of Cereal and milk in a milk drink form. You could look at having a Meal Replacement shake for breakfast and maybe a piece of fruit? Just til you get into the habit of eating at that time then you could look at other options. Michelle

    My update

Congrats on getting the date, Kylie. Look on the bright side, at least you will be able to enjoy easter! lol I know it seems a fair way away, but its already Feb. The time will just fly! Michelle
  21. Sunwyse

Help! how do I deal with this?

She stands in front of you and makes those comments point blank? She's not naive. She knows exactly what she's doing. She is nasty, end of story. You can take one of Mrs. M's excellent suggestions (I especially like #2) or the next time she does this, simply look her squarely in the eyes and in a voice loud enough for everyone else to hear, tell her you pity her. That you pity anyone who is so shallow they can't accept people for who they are. I'd also tell her I'm so sorry she grew up in a home where she felt she had to be skinny to be accepted. Might not be true, but I'd wager it is. Don't just let it slide. You don't have to take this and you shouldn't.
  22. Sunwyse

    Step 1.

Thank you everyone for the support :tt1: I know the year is gonna fly, its just when I look at those before & after pix, I wanna have it now ( Soriminah, good luck with the appointment (or did you have it already?). Hope all goes well. Who knows, we may even cross paths when getting a fill one day.

    Confessions

If you are hiding food and find yourself making excuses to eat (like "I worked off the previous") then its not the food. You are filling some other need, usually emotional. Address the emotional needs.
  24. Sunwyse

    short term goal setting

The idea of goal setting is to see success regularly. By setting smaller goals more often you are much more likely to keep going. Nothing like setting a goal of say 5 kilo (10 pound) and achieving it. Gives you incentive to reach the next goal.
  25. Sunwyse

    The date is set

Cheza, ring the surgery and ask the receptionist if you are required to stay in Perth for a length of time. The doctor may want to see you a week after the op or a few days or maybe not until the month is up. Explain you are trying to make accommodation plans and they will be more than willing to help.
