Nanna, I spoke with Humana and I have $1000.00 out of pocket to pay. They are suppose to pay 90%. Have you done the six month supervision dieting with your physician? I am on my 4th month starting July 25th. I am suppose to call them back when I make my 5th month appointment to start testing. Where are you in this? Cheryl

Why do you have to pay?

Humana Insurance (I work for Depart. of Education)....What's been your experience?
cheryl1952 replied to mrucker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
mrucker & busy, I am hoping I won't have to appeal because I have severe sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholestrol and borderline diabetic. I know the girl I have been speaking with at Central Baptist said that in August they would set me up for testing but I guess you don't see the surgeon until the insurance approves. At any rate I hope I can have this over by September. Good Luck to both of you. Do you know if the insurance pays for the fills? I sure hope Humana still does this when open enrollment comes in. Did it take everyone with Humana a long time to be approved. I was hoping that after the six months of dieting they would rush things for me. I know I have some testing to do also. Cheryl -

Busy, Where did you have your surgery and when did they start with y our testing? How long did it take to approve? I know lots of questions. Cheryl -
This is one of the major reasons why I am planning on getting the lapband. I am miserable wearing it and I still am sleepy the next day.

Does anyone here know if Humana pays for fills after the surgery? cheryl

I have a grandaughter too! She is nine years old and her name is Lexie she was named after my grandmother. I understand how special they are. God gives us back a little of our children after they leave. That is another reason I want this I want to be able to watch her grow up. I pray God will bless us to be able to be healthy again. My email is adkinsc1970@yahoo.com. Cheryl -
I have been going to my appointments for my six month diet with doctor for my insurance purposes. I found out in the last few days that my Iron is low, prescription for iron pills 350 2x a day. B12 is low taking a pill under my tongue 1x a day. My Vitamin D was already low and been taking 50,000 units a week for the last 6 weeks. I am concerned about what is causing this and is this going to keep me from having the surgery? I also have sjogrens disease which is an immune disease and I take plaquenel, could this be what is causing my vitamin dificiencies and will this keep me from having the lapband? Cheryl:crying:

I love your name! Thanks for the kind words. I am trying not to get worried but I am a natural worry wart. How long have you been trying to get this surgery? I have to do the six month diet because of Humana. I have a couple more months and then testing. Hope you feel better and everything works out that you can have your surgery and be on your way to being a healthy nana. Cheryl -

I haven't started a fast weight loss diet yet? But I really don't eat right. Hopefully the Vitamins will solve the problems. I pray that I will be able to have the surgery. This is my last hope of getting rid of my sleep apnea. I have no energy to walk too far so I cannot exercise very long so I won't lose too much weight at this point anyway. Thanks for replying. Cheryl -
Thanks for your quick response. I forgot to say I also have sjogrens syndrome which is an immune disease that affects the glands I have already had my left parotid gland removed in Nov 07. I am taking plaquenel. I wonder if this will have any problems with the surgery and if maybe the plaquenel has anything to do with my Vitamin dificiencies. Cheryl

I am looking forward to this band. I am getting ready for my fourth doctors visit for insurance purposes. Meanwhile I have found out today I have low B12 and iron. I am already taking 50,000 units of Vitamin D every week. I have sjogrens syndrome and I take plaquenel I wonder if that can cause the deficiencies. Oh well, I figure this will delay my lapband. Pray everything is ok and I can continue with the lapband.

Angie, I have to have six months of supervised dieting with my primary doctor. They told me that in the fifth month they would set me up for testing. That is all I know at this point. What about you? Cheryl -
I would like to know if any of you started a diet early to try and shrink your liver for surgery. I would like to go ahead and do that even though I haven't had an appointment with the surgeon. How can I get access to this? Also, does insurance keep on paying for your fills?

I am glad you are at goal. But I am sorry what you are doing is not right. Laughing about food and making outrageous comments are ludicrous on this site. I see no humor is this attitude. I will stick with the posts that are legitimate and truly on here to help themselves and others. How fast you forget how you felt when you were first seeking help! Cheryl

Not to be rude but you guys need to start your own site because you are not in the right place or mind. I cannot believe you would go as far as surgery to help you lose weight and then play around with this as if it were nothing. You are taking chances on your lives! Are you not willing to do anything to help yourselves? Personally I am reading lapband talk to keep motivated and find ways of helping myself before surgery. I only would pray that I will do exactly what I am suppose to do to help myself get my health back again. I sure hope you guys wake up and decide to do what you started out on the day of surgery. God has blessed you to not have any problems yet but you got to help yourself too. Good Luck to all of you and may God be with you in the future. Cheryl :confused2::biggrin::thumbs_up:

Where are you going to? I am also from Kentucky and looking to have this done at Central Baptist. I have Humana working for the state. They require you to do six months supervised dieting with your physician. You will need to get in contact with your insurance to make sure from the get go that you are following their guidelines. I cannot even see the surgeon until my fifth month into seeing the physician and they know that my insurance will pay. Cheryl

Why do you have to pay for your fill? Don't you have a good insurance policy through where you work? -
How long did you have to wait from the time you saw the surgeon until your surgery? Which doctor did your surgery? I am looking at Weiss for Central Baptist. I have to do a six month diet first. I am going on my fourth month. That is so impressing about how well you have done. Cheryl

During the 6 month approval time for insurance...
cheryl1952 replied to mrucker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you ever find out the requirements of the six month supervision diet? How far are you into this journey? I have scheduled my fourth appointment for next month. Where are you interested in having your surgery? I am looking at Central Baptist. Cheryl -
Do you remember how bad you wanted the lapband? Why take a chance on doing something that will do harm to you and a chance you might have to have it removed for a minute of thrills. I am not a doctor but I am a mother and she would not be telling you this if she didn't believe it. Just think about it the jerking and turning upside down you know that will take a big jolt on your body. I know a lady that rode the roller coster that had a cap on her tooth come off and her bra strap broke from the force. I would really think twice or call your doctor before taking a chance. There are other rides you can enjoy! Whatever you decide to do have fun. Cheryl
