    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Good morning...is anyone out there? Most of Findlay, Ohio is shut down because of the flood. I am trapped here in my house. We have a moat. Can't get out, can't get in. Work told me to stay home. Guess I'll clean or do laundry. (((sigh))) Okay, I'll quit talking to myself now! LOL

BG- Wow! I loved your story. That is amazing. I am so happy for you. What a great place this is. (((sigh))) ...and Hello everyone! I'm off early today...Findlay is flooding--AGAIN! The river is expected to crest tonight at 15.4 ft. In August we hit record at 18.5 ft. Oh man, what a mess! Oh, and it's raining pretty hard right now (has been all day), and it's going to change to snow later tonight. OMG!
  4. Hi everyone! I'm planning to come too! I know you're not yet familiar with me---I'm fairly new to the LBT site. I'm not yet banded-April 10th!! I am really looking forward to meeting you guys...I can hardly wait to have people to go through this with, and admire those who have already begun accomplishing some goals! Ummm...I don't have any clothes to share. I'm still wearing them!

Julie girl you rock! I wanna be like you! JC- Hi! Thanks for the welcome! I actually go by 'C' now (my real name is Carol). I don't know what happened to you, but I hope you get better really quick! Thanks for the note on the bikes...I've decided to stick to my roadbike. I gotta go feed my kid, but I will be back later! Bye for now! ~C

    Just approved!!

Yea! I just got approved last week too. I will be banded April 10th. Feels like forever, but I'm sure it will be here in no time! When is your surgery date? I think it will be worth the wait...it certainly can't be worse! Good luck!

    What to tell co-workers

Funny how these things affect everyone so differently. It's such a sensitive subject for most of us. I can only speak for myself, but it's hard enough to accept that I've gotten to the point of needing THIS kind of help with my weight. I wouldn't normally bring any attention to it anyway, and I think by telling, it's just inviting people into your life to comment on your progress or lack of. I think for now I'll stick to the 'don't tell' team. I don't want to make up a lie either...can't you just be off for a few days? on vacation or something?

    What to tell co-workers

That is so sad. That is exactly why I am struggling with whether to tell or not. It would be nice to have support at work, but I don't want every morsel scrutinized! I don't want to be judged. I have told my family and mom's response was: "Are you aware that you will have horrifying amounts of skin just hanging off your body? Are you prepared for that?" LOLOLOLOL OMG I couldn't believe it. It's funny to me know, but I really expected something different. I think she will ask me if I'm allowed to eat that!!

    My New Life

Hi Horsegirl! I'm glad to meet someone with a date close to mine! I am so excited! I need to get on with trying the drinks too. Let me know which ones are good! I don't like them either...so far I like Carnation Instant Breakfast, but I think it has too much sugar in it. I have Myoplex powder at home, but I don't like it mixed with Water. Yuck! Nice to meet you!
  10. My new life is about to begin! I got an official surgery date-April 10th WOO-HOO! I am so excited! I got a call today from the office scheduling me for all the other tests and appointments that are surgery related. So wonderful. I am rather surprised at how many more steps there are to all this. I've been going to that office for over a year now, every month, sometimes more than once-dietician, exercise physiologist, etc. It's neat how they are all just as excited for me as I am! They are like another family to me now! I'm sure there is so much more to learn now that it's all really gonna happen. I'm a little nervous about the liquid/mushie diets. I have quite and appetite, so I'm worried that it will be painful! Ugh! Well, I just wanted to share my news and make some friends!

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Hi HP I own a Fuji road bike. I have a drop bar, but Fuji makes a road bike with a 'flat bar' for those who don't like the bent over position. More comfortable, but you still the benefits of a lighter road bike. Some people prefer the upright position anyway...especially if you had and liked the feel of a mountain bike. That's a lot of bikes girl! Can defintely see your progress just in the bike transition! Hope that helps when you start your shopping. I'm sure dealers like Trek and Schwinn would have something comparable if you prefer their brand. ~C

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

That Muddy Buddy sounds awesome! Yes, September is a ways out, but you have literally all summer to train for it if you want to do the whole 100! If you can do TOSRV, you'd think HHH is a piece of cake. Oh, did I say cake? yum, cake. LOL

    Columbus Area

Hello everyone...Newbee here! OH Juli recommended I come over to this thread to meet others from OHIO. I live in Findlay, not quite Central Ohio, but close! She tells me you are having a get together at Polaris on the 9th! Cool! I'd love to meet you all. I haven't been banded yet, but surgery is scheduled for April. Nice to meet you! ~Carol

Great pic!! J-Love Polaris! I didn't even know there was a Columbus thread! haha The HHH is held every year in September (I think Labor Day weekend). The ride starts at Findlay High School, they have a pancake Breakfast there, vendors and registration. They break up the ride into 32 mile, 60 mile and 100 mile so that every level can participate. Free SAG is provided, free Snacks at each stop ( I think there is a stop at every 25 mile mark) a T-shirt. It's a lot of fun. It's also nice because it's so flat here! The site is not updated with this years date, but you can check out hancockhandlebars.org and they talk about the ride. I'm not sure when they will decide and post the new date. That would be great if you all came here to ride it!

    My New Life

That was the first available date!!!! I wanted it much sooner, but that was the best they could do. A lot could change before then too as far as needing more time off. I only am going on what my surgeon said. If he decides I need longer, than I will take longer. Going Sassy--where are you in the process?

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Good morning everyone! BG and J- welcome back and I'm so glad you had so much fun! HP-I'm from Findlay, Ohio-Home of the Hancock Horizontal Hundred (HHH) What kind of bike are you upgrading to? B-Oh my goodness, I didn't mean for 'lazy' to offend. I had hired a personal trainer last year, who wouldn't let me ride the recumbent-she would always say that to me because you don't use your arms on the stationary recumbent bike. I disagreed with her because either way if it raises your heartrate than you are benefiting from it. Our best friends own a bicycle shop here in town, and he sells recumbents too. They sell very well and lots of people ride them in the HHH. As far as what I'm riding for: well, all of the above! Sometimes it's just leisurely fun, sometimes with the bike club and hopefully, eventually I'd be in good enough shape to consider a race. Who knows? You all are right about surgery. It will be here fast. I think even though I know I can eat everything, just smaller portions once it's done, I am worrying about that "last meal". Have a great day everybody! ~C

    What to tell co-workers

Good for you 'life change'! I am afraid that working so hard to keep my secret will be harder on me than just telling the truth. I've already decided that no matter what they know or don't know, I will NOT give numbers! I think that you handle that nicely. Good Luck ~C

Hi Hoosierpoms! Nice to meet you! I'm Carol. Not yet banded (I'm sure you saw the post), love to ride bikes (road bike currently), and been on LBT for a week hoping to make some friends! I'm trying to get back into the swing of exercising again...it's so hard to get motivated. I live where it's flatter than a pancake! ha ha Great for biking though, just no fun to look at. Which initial are you? ~C

    What to tell co-workers

I thought that with LB the MOST time off you'd need would be a week. I am only going to be off work for 4 days. I am having surgery on Thurs and back to work on Monday. For all anyone knows, it will just a long weekend for me. Ultimately, it is our decision whether we tell or not. I don't know that I'm able to offer any good advice since I don't know what to do about my own problem!!!!

    What to tell co-workers

I'm in the same dilemma! I am really struggling to tell anyone aside from the boss. I gotta tell ya though, the 'secret' I'm keeping is becoming stressful. Worrying about who will know, who might guess, trying to come up with a lie I can remember, etc. My boss was very kind and sensitive when I told her (just told her Tuesday), and she did say that I might feel better if I had the support of my co-workers. Maybe. I don't know. I don't want to be judged either, nor do I want everyone eye-balling my size every time they see me. I'm scared that if I don't do well with the LapBand (and some don't), then I'm a failure once again. On the other hand, if I do fantastically (like most), then I have to lie about how I'm losing all the weight! UGH!!! Let me know how you decide to handle it!

    My New Life

Hi Sunwyse! I don't know...I talked to my surgeon and he said that as long as I'm on light duty and not doing any lifting, it should be okay. I am pretty honest about my limitations though, and I don't want to push anything...maybe I'll talk to him again and see what he says. Does your ticker mean wait time until surgery? Why so long?

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Okay...apparently I can't say all that I wanted to in one post! Sorry! Yes, I have a surgery date...April 10th! WOO HOO! I was a little bummed that it wasn't sooner, but I don't want to complain either. I have eaten so badly over the last few days...like now that I know I won't get to have it, I seem to want it. Uh-oh, is that a bad sign? ~C

Alfie- you've lost quite a bit of weight already! That is amazing! Was that your pre-op diet of liquids or more?

    My New Life

When is your surgery? I am having mine on a Thursday and will be back to work on Monday. I am planning (fingers crossed) not to miss any work or be sick!!! I think the only restriction (no pun intended) will be for lifting. Isn't it exciting?
