I am so frustrated! I have now gone through more than half of my hospital's lap band program, had a zillion appointments, getting close to actual surgery (after waiting for over a year) and now my husband's company has switched to Tufts. I was all set with BCBS. Tuft's does cover lap band but requires a specific 6 month doc monitored diet in Boston. I am not sure if all I have done will count towards that 6 months and I can't drive back and forth to Boston. I feel like I can't go through another 6 months of all of this either. Has anyone else used Tuft's? What was the program like? Thanks Everyone!

Does your DH or SO know how much you weigh?
bookaddict replied to cQQlgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband doesn't know for sure, but the weird thing is we are very close in height, he is maybe 2-3 inches taller, and when we stand together we look about the same weight. So, he probably THINKS I weigh the same or close to the same as him, which is 240. However, I weight 272. Why do I weigh so much more when he has more muscle and we look the same? -
Company switching from BCBS of Mass to Tuft's
bookaddict replied to bookaddict's topic in Insurance & Financing
Thank you so much for your replies. I will be really upset if I have to start over. I wonder if they will count the two months I have already put in towards the 6 month requirement? I am student teaching in the fall and we had planned to do the surgery before school starts. Once school starts, I will have to wait until next summer because I will not be able to take time off. Thanks again! -
Should I ask the doc for Metformin/Glucophage?
bookaddict replied to AppleSmith1226's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I could have written the exact same thing as above! Although my hair growth is more than minimal...but I have taken Met for abt. 2 years and if anything, my PCOS has gotten much worse. More and more hair, more skin tags, more weight, hair is beginning to thin on head, still not ovulating. With that being said, you should try it because it works great for some PCOS'ers. Good luck! -
You look terrific!! Actually, your before picture looks a lot like me!! Same hair, similar glasses...I sure hope I look like your AFTER picture soon! :biggrin2:

Ultimately I would love to be an 8 or a 10/medium, but if I got to a 12/large, I would be sooo happy. Just to be able to shop in any regular store would be fantastic instead of trying to find plus size clothes in some tiny section way in the back of a store...if they even have a plus section!

Afraid to go to psyc appointment
bookaddict replied to Long2BFree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my psych appointment yesterday and it was totally fine. They just ask you a series of questions. He told me they want to know about certain issues so that they can help you with behavior modification and help you cope with those issues post-op, not really to hold you back from the surgery. Also they want to make sure you have realistic expectations and ensure you understand what is involved. Don't worry, just try to relax and be honest and you can ask about continuing counseling if you feel it would help you. -
Clear liquid or any liquid the day before???
bookaddict replied to spoodles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know the answer but just wanted to wish you well on your surgery tomorrow!! -
Congrats on finishing up the pre-op testing!! It won't be long for you now! I see my nurse in two weeks and she will schedule all of my tests so I can see the surgeon. I can't wait. Like you I have PCOS and am so excited to FINALLY have some sort of solution/help with these symptoms! Best of luck to you!

Liquid Diet - blahh.
bookaddict replied to WhisperLightly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I am just starting the whole liquid thing too. I am about 1 1/2 months from surgery, but the nutritionist has me doing semi-liquid diet now to lose the pre-op weight and also get used to it. I am on two shakes per day. I have one meal and a few Snacks (one of which is broth). Just this much is really hard. I am hoping that once I start losing weight I will be more motivated. Good luck with your surgery!! You are so close. To me, it feels like it will never get here! :purplebananna: Sharon -
The Natural Diet Solution For PCOS.......
bookaddict replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Haven't read the book but I am anxious to see how it goes for you. It is something I would like to try after banding (I am on the pre-op diet right now...starving!! LOL) I will be especially interested to see how it works in regards to regulating your cycle and the facial hair thing. Thanks! Sharon -
yum! Sounds delicious. Thanks for the tip!

i miscarried.....need advise
bookaddict replied to bandster_1007's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
When I had my D&C I was put under with general anesthesia. No physical pain, just crampy afterwards. Since I had a missed miscarriage, my doc said it could take up to a month for my body to figure it out and miscarry on my own. I was heart broken and couldn't handle carrying the baby for that long. It was awful just waiting through the weekend. Also, at that point you are risking infection too. But, follow your heart and do what is best for YOU. Sharon -
i miscarried.....need advise
bookaddict replied to bandster_1007's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I lost my baby in January at 11 weeks, so I know what you are going through. Like you, we found out via u/s, there was no indication anything was wrong. Just wanted to say, you are not alone. I am still trying to deal with the grief myself. Sharon -
Hi fellow PCOSers! As we all know, it is sooo hard to lose the weight with PCOS, so how did you all lose the 10-15 pre-op pounds? I am having such a hard time. I am doing WW, staying on points and my weight is down 1 pound one week, up 1 pound the next. So far (in one month) I am actually up higher than when I started! I am doing great eating veggies and healthy choices. Am exercising some, but could be better in that department. Have been having slim fast and a piece of fruit for Breakfast. Am pretty careful about measuring portions. Any advice? Thanks!

Hi Everyone- I am new to this board and was told by my insurance they would cover the Lap Band. I am just waiting on the official paperwork so I can get started with the psych eval and nutritionist. First I want to say how glad I am to find a group of PCOSers here and how inspiring all of your posts are for me. I feel like I have some hope for the first time in a LOOONNNGGG time! A few questions: Did/do you still take Metformin after LapBand? Is it hard to get down? I have been on Met for 2 years and don't feel like it has helped at all. I wonder if I should stop or if it will be more effective once I have the Lap Band? My other question is about facial hair. I am one of the lucky ones who has the full beard going on. It is so hard for me and I cry most days as I shave. Does it get better with the weight loss? Once I lose the weight, get the hormones under control, should I have laser? Thank you all so much!! So glad to have found you! Sharon

PCOSers: How did you lose Pre-Op Weight?
bookaddict replied to bookaddict's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks so much, Georgia Girl. It sounds very similar to how I was eating until I tried Slim Fast this week. Neither one is doing anything. Actually I went up a few pounds. What am I doing wrong? -
Those with BCBS of MA how much did they cover?
bookaddict replied to KathrynRose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't had my surgery yet, just starting the process with all of the appointments, but they told me all I had to pay was the $250 co-pay for the hospital. Best of luck! -
Hello from New Hampshire:
bookaddict replied to grumpy one's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! I am in New Hampshire too! I live on the Seacoast and will be having surgery in Portsmouth. I am just starting the process and am already a bit tired of waiting! It took over a month just to get an appointment with the nurse for my first consultation. I guess she will then send me for labs, set up dietitian, physical therapist, and psychologist appointments. Geez, this is going to take FOREVER!! Best of luck to you! -
Protein that is so delish, I crave it!
bookaddict replied to LynneB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Countingthedays: I see you are pre-band. Me too and I am having a hard time losing any weight. Does this shake fill you up like a Meal Replacement? Looks like you are doing great losing weight, are you following a specific plan? Thanks! -
Thanks for the messages everyone! Guess what came today?? A letter saying my insurance officially approved me!!! Yipppeee!!! The nurse will call in the next day or two to start setting up my appointments. I can't wait to get this thing going and finally see some success, get my periods back (never thought I would be wishing for that!!), maybe start ovulating/become fertile, get laser hair removal, etc! It will be a whole new life. I have an amazing husband, a perfect little girl, and a happy life. This will just complete the package for me! I am so excited!

Anyone have experience with this insurance? They said the surgery is covered, but I am wondering how long the approval will take. It has been 1 week. I am getting anxious already! Thanks! Sharon

I am on week three, trying to lose 10-15 pounds before surgery. I love WW and have done it many times over the years. I was hoping I could continue after surgery.
