    Almost 6 months out...

This has been quite a journey. If you would have asked me 1 year ago if I would ever have WLS, I would have said HELL no. That is something I thought only crazy people did! I used to think that I would have to be 500 lbs and very desperate to even consider such a thing. And look at me now! I WAS desperate, but I was in denial... I had no idea how big I had gotten... I WAS so unhappy. Even with the most wonderful hubby in the world and my beautiful baby girl... I was depressed. At the beginning of October I had never heard of Lap-Band. On November 9th... I had one! Yes, I am the idiot who didn't research for years or months, but I am very blessed to have stumbled across my surgeon! This wasn't easy, but is really hasn't been difficult... This is one of the best decisions I have made in my life! I will have my 6 month anniversary (bandaversary) on May 9th, but I just couldn't wait to tell my story. I have lost 67 pounds in less than 6 months!!! I am 100 pounds lighter than I was this time last year!!! I am in a freakin size 18 (never thought I would see those again)!!! I am wearing shorts in public!!! I think I am hot!!! (not to be conceited, but my confidence is there now) I know I will not gain that weight back ever again!!!! Thank God for my band!!!!

    Hunger

I sometimes forget to eat... That is how often I actually get hungry! I usually have a protein shake for breakfast, sometimes lunch too. Just because that is easiest for me where I work. When my stomach growls though, I eat. I am not physically as hungry as before. And I stay full for 5-6 hours normally, sometimes more.

    Questions on Lap Banding

QUESTIONS: 1. Is there anyone in my age group that has had the procedure done? What was your experience like? Would you recommend it to someone your age or would you have rather waited until you were older? I would like to think that I am in your age group :grouphug: I am 24. This is the best decision in my life. I am about 6 months out and could not be happier. The experience has been great for me. My life is on track and I am loving it!!! If I could have, I would have had this done as soon as I could put food in my mouth. I have always been overweight. 2. This might sound a little stupid but, what happens to the excess skin? Does it “shrink” with the weight loss or do you have to have a cosmetic procedure to remove it? Is it a hit or miss situation and just have to wait till the end to find out? Ditto on what Alex said. Right now I have some flabbiness, not really saggy though. I am thinking with the proper exercises and time... it won't be too bad. 3. Other then worrying about the diet restrictions / modifications, did anyone have any other psychological effects? (ie - Why did I do this to myself?, depression, etc) No bad effects on me here. Only great. It sucks not to pig out on stuff like the good old days... but it is well worth it. I have found other things to do with my time. (shopping, tanning, getting my nails done.) 4. I am a sucker for spicy food, anything from chili peppers to hot sauce. I do not get gassy from it either (a huge bonus). As soon as I stop eating spicy food then I get a craving for sweets. Are you able to return to eating this food after the healings complete? I haven't had any problems with spicy foods. And with the sweets, I can still eat them but not the mass amounts that I used to. Bread and Pasta will not go down, but in my case... that is GREAT. That is why I got so big in the first place. Anything else that you feel would be useful knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Check out the Before and After pictures thread. It is very inspirational. Also, feel free to PM or email me.

    percentages of weightloss

Ditto on what Janet said... All I can tell you is that I have already in 6 months lost more than 36% of my excess weight. But you have others here that haven't lost 5% of their excess weight in the same time for ALL different reasons. Good luck to you.

Well, just have a few things to chat about today... The scale moved! Yay!!! I am at 260 now... yippeee... So close to the 250's that I can taste it. I am wearing a size 9 ring!!! I have always been a size 10 or 11! Discovered that they make an Adult liquid Extra Strength Tylenol... so no more suffering thru the dang cramps. Today is a great day!!!

    Exercise

I know others have said the same things... but I used to get HORRIBLE shin splints doing my power walking.... To cure it I got awesome WALKING shoes (you would need running) and I drank tons of water. Looking at your weight, I would think you need at least 130 oz of water a day... That is what I need Maybe you aren't getting enough water. Best of luck to you and let us know how it goes... I would love to run... but I don't know if I can :0) How tall are you?
