Has anyone tried to contact Dr. Deol at Loyola?
-
I recently heard that Dr. Deol is still working hard to get the new practice/clinic open in Chicago. The whole process has been very slow. No word on when she will start practicing again. I will be one of the first ones in line to see her when she opens up. In the meantime, I sure hope nothing goes wrong with my band between now and when she starts practicing again.

I have had some contact w/Dr. Deol. The last I heard from her things were moving slow in Chicago and she really had no idea how long it would be before the new clinic was open. She said she was going to try to keep us posted on the progress through her old website. The address is Michigan Bariatrics Surgery Center of Excellence P.C Lap-Band I can't wait until she opens up. Not real comfortable w/the doc I have now.

Thank you for the info. Good luck w/your scheduled banding in January

From what I was told if you are going to try and get in to see Dr. Krause you really do need to ask for Bree. Asking for her will make the move to Dr. Krause MUCH easier. Bree just gets you in w/o all the other BS. If you don't ask for her you have to go through the typical new patient BS. However, I also understand that she does not work every day. Does anyone who has already seen Dr. Krause know what days Bree works? I was told by Dr. Deol what days she worked. but I was so upset I don't think it really registered w/me.

Sorry I haven't been around in awhile. I hope everyone is okay and meeting goals as they had hoped to. Been away for awhile for so many reasons. Between a band slip that required surgery/new band to fix, and a knee replacement I have ALL kinds of stories. When I have some time I will sit down and give you all more details. Right now I have to get ready to go to a little gathering of old friends. I just wanted to post to those of you who know me that I am still aroud, alive, well, and still kicking. Well, the kicking is a little weak yet because of the knee replacement:D, but that gets better everyday. Will post more later. You all take care.

I can't believe I haven't thought of this sooner. This may even be a stupid question, but I really do not know the answer. I take Protonix for acid reflux and Celebrex for stage 3 Osteoarthritis in my knees. I am guessing that once I get banded and drop a significant amount of weight I may not have to take either of these drugs any longer. But, what the heck do I do until then? Can you take pills w/the band? The Protonix is quite small, but the Celebrex is about the size of a Tylenol tablet.

Just wondering if anyone from Michigan still visits the site? If you are here post and say hi.

Seems to me that almost every doc has a different program. I have read where some are on Clear liquids for one week while some are on them for four weeks. Some are on stage two for one week others for three. WOW how can this all be so different? How long were you in stage one (liquids)? How long were you in stage two (mushes)?

Where are all the Michigan people at??
Wendiss replied to Cinnaberry's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have not heard anything on Dr. Bhesiana. I swear I saw a few postings on LBT by some of his patients, but I can't find them now :scared: . I decided I was going to pursue the LapBand WLS option on Oct. 10, 2005. Attended Dr. Pleatman's seminar on Oct. 11 and made my final decison that I was going to have the surgery. Made an appointments w/Pleatman and Deol. Dr. Pleatman is a wonderful surgeon and his staff is great, but I just connected w/Dr. Deol and Rebecca much better. Going from Pleatman to Deol added a couple of weeks to my whole process. I really didn't start the whole process until I went in to see Dr. Deol Nov 15th. I was banded on Jan 23, 2006. So from initial visit w/my surgeon to my banding it was 9 - 10 weeks. Good luck :clap2: -

Wendy here, I am patient of Dr. Deol's and I could not be happier. Dr. Deol, and Rebecca just rock. Simple, fun, very caring, and skilled. Rebecca can be a bulldog for ya when it comes to your insurance. They have a simple form letter w/four statements your PCP has to check off on then you should be all set to go w/BCBS. I have BCBS and it was a breeze w/the letter. -
I am sure quite a few on LBT unsuccessfully tried a weight loss program prior to making their decision to get banded. Keeping in mind that the band is just a tool to help assist with weight loss, I was wondering if anyone has tried joining Weight Watchers or another type of weight loss program after they were banded to help w/their weight battle? I know after surgery many of us have a year or more of dietician, psychologist, and group support through our band docs. However, reading through the threads I noticed there are quite a few of us who still struggle with losing the weight and we often turn to other LBT members for suggestions and support. One would think that between the band, a structured weight loss program, the support from the weight loss meetings, and the continued support and advice from LBT members, you would be pounding at weight with constant one-two punches.:boxing::boxing: Any opinions on this out there?

I am sure this one has been posted 100+ times. Does anyone have any great ideas for a wholesome, healthy, and satisfying liquid one can have while in stage one? I’ve had my band for four days, been doing okay w/the strained chicken noodle soup, skim milk, and yogurt drinks, but I am getting bored.:bored

How long do you think one should wait after getting banded to have a glass of wine?

Please forgive me if this has been posted before. I was just surfing around the net and stumbled across this site. Has some excellent recipies and other info. Seems to be a bit more for RNYers, but does have some great info for bandsters. http://store.bariatriceating.com/

How soon can I return to work after Lap Band?
Wendiss replied to DAA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on Monday home by noon on Tuesday. I never needed to take prescription pain meds. I was doing laundry and picking the house up on Wednesday. I could have gone back to work on Friday, but I had the day off already so I stayed home. I went back on Monday and did fine. Only problem I had was I have a desk job, so I found that sitting for long periods of time bothered my incisions a bit. -
I am wondering if anyone else out there shares the same problem I have? I am pretty darn short waisted and two of my incisions are right at my waistband. I know one was just an access point for the doc's instrument, but one of the sites is my port. Anyone experience this? What kind of problems if any have you had w/your port site because of the constant rubbing and pressure?

Glad you are home and doing good. It's all downhill from here. Drink plently of fluids, walk, rest, and take care of that new band. :clap2:

Vines, you clear the bad thoughts out of your head. Go do something you love to do. Sending good thougths and prayers your way.

So sorry to hear about all your troubles. You hang in there. You can do this with or without the band. Please don't ever feel uncomfortable visiting LBT. We are all here for you. You are not alone. We always have and always will be here for you. (((HUGS)))

Have the types of food you crave changed?
Wendiss replied to Parvathi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
:) I think the only bad food is one that has spoilded and will give someone food poisoning. :lolB: :lolB: Oh that is a good one. I have to remember that. Heck, right now I am on all liquids and will probably be on them for another week. I am craving EVERYTHING :angry Actually I don't think it is a craving as it is wanting to chew something. I will say if I could eat right now it would not be junk food. I would be eating something like grilled chicken, fish or lean meat.:hungry: -
Congrats to all the new bandsters. Happy to hear everyone is home a dealing w/their new band.Sorry to hear some of you are experiencing gas pain. I was banded on the 23rd and I feel great. Had very very little pain from the gas or anything else. Oh yeah, if my friends would quit making me laugh I wouldn't have any pain at all. Laughing, sneezing and coughing just kill. I actually thought about going to work this morning, but decided to stay home one last day. Already working on figuring out if I am hungry or if I just want to chew on something. Just about over this liquid stage.

I am really ticked off!and ripped off!!!
Wendiss replied to Francesca's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Go ahead and keep venting. You are angry and frustrated and we all know those two emotions can be HUGE food triggers. Vent, take action against your doc, exercise, plan your meals, do something other than excessive, unnecessary eating. Do not let a loser doc and a few pounds get the best of you. -
WOW...Good for her. I bet she feels great and is so proud of herself. Of all her suggestions I think the best on is to wrap your head around the idea that the weight just won't fall off. Even w/the band you MUST diet and exercise. Her results are proof of the diet and exercise bit. I have only had my band for four days, but I can't wait to use my new weight loss tool along w/exercise and a healthy diet to get down to my goal weight.

I was banded at 7:30am yesterday. Had a pretty easy day after surgery because I slept REALLY HARD ALL DAY long :notagree. Despite my day long sleep I did manage to get in a few laps around the hospital unit. I really did not sleep good at all last night because the 84 year old woman in the bed next to me kept getting up a pulling her IV's out. Her bed alarm would go off and the entire 3rd floor nursing staff would come running to stop/help her. The staff working w/her were SAINTS. Dr. Deol came to see me this morning in my room around 7:00 to check things out. I went down to Xray to sip some barium to make sure all was flowing right. I am happy to report there is smooth sailing all the way down :biggrin1:. I had to prove I could down and keep down liquids before being discharged, had tea, chicken broth, and apple juice. :hungry: Liquids or not they tasted wonderful. The only thing I was allowed to eat or drink after surgery was ice chips and they were to be eaten very sparingly. I would have sold my soul for a sip of water yesterday. Was cleaned up and dressed by 10am and ready to go, but had to wait until 12:30 to be dicharged. I am happy to report I am home, resting, happy, and feeling GREAT. :clap2: Feeling a bit weak, but the pain is almost non-existent. Hopefully I will be able to control whatever pain I do have with the liquid Tylenol and not have to take the Tylenol 3 elixir Dr. Deol prescribed. Looking foward to starting this new chapter in my life.
