I would anyone's ideas about a protein supplement that tastes good. I have yet to find one I like and am struggling to get my protein in. I was just rebanded in Feb so I trying to make sure I get everything right. I went to GNC today and looked at Fish oil (that is how I ended up on this subject) but I didn't buy any. For those that do take the fish oil, is that in addition to your multi-vitamin? What benefits have you noticed?

The elastic band support goes right under my breast line to right below my waist line. It has velcro on one end and they pulled it as tight as they could and attached it to the other side. At the first surgery it was already on me when I woke up. The nurse told me it was for "support". It helped when I got up and moved around, it was like it held everything "in place". Sometimes it was so tight it was uncomfortable. Now when I pull it tight the velcro goes past the part where it should attach to, so It is not tight anymore if I try to wear it.

My band has slipped after 3 years of being banded
mrp3333 replied to Jessiebear's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It was discovered that I had a slip in the middle of Jan 08. I lost 53 lbs so my BMI was down to around 32. I received my band in July 07 and I had the "bigger band". My 2nd surgery was Feb 15 08 and the surgeon told me right before the surgery if I didn't have the newest band he was going to replace the old one which he did. I work for an insurance company and it is my understanding ( I also read this in another post on this forum by a nurse) that when your band slips, it becomes a medical necessity to have it fixed and insurance has to pay for it and if they don't you should appeal it. My surgeon's office said the same thing - medical necessity. My situation almost became an emergency because I couldn't keep anything down. -
I received my new band when they went in to fix my slip on Feb 15, 2008. So far I don't feel as sore as I did the first time.

I was banded in July 07 and have lost 53lbs. The last fill I had was Oct 07 and now I had to go back the next day because I could not drink water. The Dr took some fluid out, but now that I look back I was still too tight but didn't realize it. On the other visits, the Dr said he didn't want to add any more more fluid and really thought he should take some out. I said no because I thought I was OK. 1st week of January I had my regular appt and I almost told him to take some out but I didn't, the next week I was doing a whole lot of PBing. Called and got in to see the Dr and he took some fluid out. I was ok for a week and then started vomiting. Went back in and he took some more out and I questioned if my band had slipped, first he said lets wait a couple of days and see how you do, but then he said to ease both of our minds let get an Upper GI. Went for the upper GI the next morning and 2 days later they wanted to schedule surgery. Was ok again for about a week and then couldn't keep anything down. Called the office and ask about taking out more fluid, the nurse thought he already took it all out. Went in that day and he ask me if I wanted it all out. Hard decision but I decided to have it all out so I wouldn't have to keep going to Dr and paying co-pay. I was scared to death to have it all out and did OK for the 1st few days, but then realized I could eat whatever I wanted again before my 2nd surgery and having to do the liquids again. I did gain around 8lbs, but I had lost 15 in 2 weeks due to vomiting. Now after the 2nd surgery I am questioning why I did all of this in the 1st place. I am scared it may slip again. I may not realize it is too tight again. I may overeat and make my pouch stretch. I guess if it doesn't work this time, it wasn't meant to be. I don't think I would convert to Gastric Bypass. I will keep you posted how it turns out. So far it seems the pain is less but I am starving. Funny thing I noticed today is they put an elastic "support band" around me last time for when I wasn't laying down. This time they asked me if I still had it and I said yes and they told me to make sure I used it. When I went to put it on today, it really doesn't help this time because it is too big.

I had surgery to correct my band 2/15/08. the surgeon went in with the intention of repositioning the band but went ahead and replaced it with a "newer" model that is supposed to have a lower chance of slipping. Needless to say before the surgery I was terrified because I was completely unfilled. I did gain some weight back (8lbs) but that was my own doing. There was certain things I wanted to eat one last time. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I am on the liquids again for 2 weeks and am struggling with that. Good Luck!

I do not feel as sore as I did the first time. Probably because he left the same port in and I have a small cut around that area. I am still very hungry

My surgery went ok. I had some really bouts of vomiting but nothing could come up. I believe it was from the anteshisia (sp?) I was able to home the same day. He would have liked me to to stay overnight but I didn't want to. (last time I had to stay 5 nights). Instead of repsoitioning the band, he put in the newest model that is supposed to help your band stay in place. I already had the big one so he gave me another big one. I am sore, he cut me in all the same spots and only half of of the scar where my port is. I have a "pain ball" which should run out tomorrow so I guess that will tell how sore I really am. I am starving for food. I can move around good right now. He wants to see me in 6 weeks and is going to fill 7cc's.

My surgery is tomorrow morning to fix my slip. I am scared to death. For the past 2 weeks I have been unfilled and able to eat way too much.

What to tell co-workers
mrp3333 replied to Rachel In L.A.'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was told 2 weeks, but I was in the hospital 5 days. I developed pneumonia and they finally let left leave. I realized after bbeing discharged that my surgeon wouldn't see me fro 3 weeks anyway. I ended up taking 6 weeks which is what my dr asked for and it was approved. I didn't have problems with the surgery but due to the pnemonia I was sore longer. I also slipped in a puddle of water on a very slick floor - didn't bust anything on the outside but I was very sore. -
What to tell co-workers
mrp3333 replied to Rachel In L.A.'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Before my surgery, I only told a couple of people and asked them not to tell. Eventually everyone found out. I would go with the "female" surgery, it seems to make everyone silent. I wish I hadn't told anyone not even my mother. In the beginning they kept saying can you eat that? are you supposed to be doing that? I don't understand how you can eat that if you are on a diet. Finally one day, I got angry and told them I could eat whatever I wanted as long as I chewed it up really good and please stop worrying about it. Every week how much have you lost now? Every time I talk to my mother, my sister and my aunt has ask her how much have I lost. I told her I wish I hadn't told anyone. -
Maryland, My situation sounds just like yours. My surgeon said my slip was probably from being too tight. I had not had an adjustment since November, I was going to the surgeon but did not get any adjustment. Totally my fault, I thought the "tightness" I was feeling was what I was supposed to feel. Once I was totally too tight and didn't really realize it until the next day. I almost had to visit the emergency room due to not being able to drink anything. After I get mine corrected I will not take any chances with being too tight, If I have any doubt I am going to ask to have some taken out. He showed me my X-ray and I saw that I too have a big pouch overhang. I am completely unfilled and can eat pretty much anything. I have no restriction and am gaining weight back quickly. Now I realize how much I really do need the restriction and how careful I will be. Tighter is not always better. I am kind of worried because he told he was going to start me off with 7cc's this time. My first adjustment to 7 last time is when I almost had to go to the emergency room, but he does mine sitting up now and I know what to look for.

I have the "newer band" that holds 14 cc's. Today was my first day of being unfilled. I think I did pretty good but I am still worried. My dr said he would fill my band after surgery sooner than the last time and he would start with 7cc's. I think we need to remember why we need it in the 1st place. I didn't loose 53 lbs to gain it all back. I felt so much better today being able to eat and drink without the tightness in my chest and then the vomiting. I feel like I know what to look for this time and will not hesitate to say take some Fluid out if I feel my band is too tight. I think I was probably too tight since November and got progressively worse.

Just left the Dr's office, now I am totally unfilled. He said it might make me sicker, it has done that to some other patients. He showed me the X-ray of the Barium going down, it was barely going through. My stomach has come up through the band and formed a bigger pouch. That explains why I couldn't lay down. He said he has tried doing a total unfill on 2 patients with slips (not as bad as mine) but it didn't help and they ended up having surgery anyway. Now if I have anymore problems, I will need to call them and probably do emergency surgery.

I am not a self pay thank goodness. After my last post last night, I threw up really bad. My arms and back hurt from it. This morning I was having problems with liquids so I called the Dr office back. She told me if I keep having problems with liquids to go to the emergency room and they would probably do emergency surgery. I then ask if it would help to take some fluid out. She didn't realize that he hadn't "unfilled" me yet. I am getting ready to leave work and head over there to see what is going on. I hope you don't need surgery. I am not looking forward to it. I am not wanting to be totally unfilled again. I don't want to gain any of my weight back. Let me know what you find out.

I have 5 1/2 cc's. I called and ask another office the same thing and they said surgery is the only way to correct slips. He took 1 cc and then orderd the Upper GI so I have been back in the office. They probably will unfill it before then. I have not had any problems with bacon. I haven't eaten it very much though. I kept all of my food down from this morning. I just drank some water and it came right back up. I ma having some pain in my back as well. I don't want to start all over and be completely unfilled again. I don't want to have surgery again either.

I talked to the nurse in my surgeon's office about doing a total unfill and asked if the band reposition itself. She said they had never heard of the that - the only way to fix slippage is surgery. I am scheduled for surgery 2/15/08. If I continue to half problems they will do an emergency surgery. Lat night I had to sleep sitting up because I had stomach acid just coming up and when I laid down it felt like I was choking. Today I was able to eat and egg and some bacon and I didn't throw it up, but about 6 hours later I start Pbing some stomach acid I guess and I feel like I can't eat or drink anything. I don't think I am going to be able to make until the 15th.

Thank you for your reply. I have been paranoid from day one about "slipping" and tried to do everything right. I just keep thinking it is something I did. My surgeon told (before I knew for sure) that it happens to 1 out of 50 patients and normally after 1 year. I am going to call the office tomorrow and see if the unfill will help my case. I did see the X-ray on the screen and didn't think it looked right. I am just worried I will start gaining my weight back.

I am new to this website and am looking for some assistance I guess. I was banded July 07. I have had a few problems with PB and some vomiting off and on until last week. I could eat and drink ok one day and then the next day I couldn't keep anything down. I finally realized I was probably too tight and have been since Nov (my last fill). I couldn't take it anymore and called the surgeon Tuesday, he removed 1cc and orderd an Upper GI. Today I found out my band has slipped. I am terrified to have surgery again. I have heard that doing an unfill could fix it on its own. Is this just something your surgeon might tell you and would they always say surgery? I am just still in shock and don't know what to do.
