Banded 1/9/08, first adjustment not until March!!!
AlisaH replied to AlisaH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you to all who have posted! I am unsure why it is taking so long for them to schedule the appointment. They actually called and left me a message on the day of my surgery with the appointment day for the first adjustment. I live in Southwest, Virginia and in this area there is a very limited number of surgeons and the fills have to be coordinated with the hospital as they do them in radiology so I am thinking that has something to do with it too. They did tell me if they get cancellations they will move my appointment up. I don't think I have gained any of my initial loss back, although my scale at home seems way off so I am thinking that I need to get a new one so I can really see what's going on. I decided to start journaling all of my food so I can track the Protein content and the calories. So far I haven't been eating over 1000 calories and the total amount is less than I was eating before, but I certainly don't feel full like I did. I think I will take your advice though and call my doc to find out if there is a more involved post-op diet plan that I can use while waiting for the first adjustment. Thanks RedTulip and Citygirl for the protein suggestion, I have certainly been trying to concentrate on the protein and it has helped so I will keep on that for now too! Tuna seems to have become my best friend! Thanks to all for the support, it really helps to know that there are many variations in fill timeframes, but the assurances that in the end it will all even out makes me feel lots better! -
So I was banded on the 9th and yesterday was my two week check-up and things seem to be going really well, I am excited about the changes! I am kind of bummed out though that my first scheduled fill isn't until March! When I came home I really felt some restriction when I drank, which was anticipated, but now I'm sure the swelling has gone down and I've lost 17 pounds and am feeling almost completely unrestricted and I'm concerned that my hunger will get the best of me if I have to wait another 2 months for my first fill! Do others have a similar experience and how do you keep the hunger at bay! I was so excited by not being so hungry, this change worries me! :rolleyes2:

I wonder if Ishould request a new surgery date?
AlisaH replied to planning4thin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, please let us know how you are doing! And YES, you can totally do it! There was a part of me that really wondered whether this band would work for me because I really was hungry ALL the time. But it does! I have really not been hungry at all, I even had to "remind" my self to eat the other day, that NEVER happened before! Keep the faith and know you are doing what is best for you! -
Congrats! Just remember to give yourself time to heal! I was banded on 1/9 and was feeling TONS better within a couple of days. The hardest part for me was getting up and down, I didn't want to strain my abdomen, but my hubby was nice enough to help me! After several days that was better too. Getting up and walking around (even just in the house) made a huge difference and remember to get your Protein in (in shakes), that will help keep your energy up! I can't wait to hear more from you both!

I'm home, I'm banded and this is how it was...

Great job Ang! I agree that you are rocking at the recovery! Staying off the pain meds is great if you can do it! Just don't push it too hard and give yourself time (and permission) to relax and focus on you! -
Hi banders! I was banded on the 9th and have experienced all of what you are going through as well! I was so happy last week when I could once again lay on my side while sleeping! I had a HUGE bruise near the incision for the port, and one incision got a bit infected too. Nothing major, one of the sutures my surgeon put in migrated a bit and by system reacted to is as a small foreign body. I went in to the doc's office and they cleaned it up and gave me some antibiotic cream. Unfortunately, they had to remove the durmabond they used to close the incision with so I am a bit fretful that I will end up with a larger scar there. Oh well, if that's the worst of it, it's so worth it! I too have been limited to liquids/really mushy foods too and it does get a bit boring! I also used the small cups to measure out my liquids 2T at a time. Just focus on the Protein as that's what is most needed for healing too! I used Protein shakes and I am still supplementing to be sure I get all the right stuff! Good luck to all, I can't wait to hear more news!

Congrats to you both! I was banded at the beginning of the month and am really feeling great. I have not felt sick at all which has been a total blessing! I too had that terrible gas pain as well as some shoulder pain, just on one side though. The gas I think was the worst, but it will get better! Be careful not to try too hard though, if you get my meaning! I was pretty sore and that pressure didn't help matters! I stayed home from work just over a week, but felt much better after about day 4 and could have gone back, but since I had the time off, I decided to enjoy it and focus on me! Good luck and I look forward to talking to you both!

HMMMM, that's interesting. My Doc hasn't mentioned that to me so I am not sure, I would be interested to hear what others have experienced related to this.

Do you burp more now that you are banded? (non-productive, just air)
AlisaH replied to dustout's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have found the same thing, since being banded (only two weeks ago) I have noticed a lot more burping! But, I did not for the first few days after coming home, I felt like it, but it didn't happen. The burping does seem to coinside with eating a meal and I thought the same thing, the food falling into the lower stomach pushes the air up. As for my office mates, I just told them what was up and that I would do my best not to be gross! I also burp when I am starting to get hungry! It's an odd side effect, for sure! -
Tomorrow is the big day!

Good Luck to all of the soon to be banders! I was just banded 2 weeks ago and I can totally relate to that feeling of excitement and, as you said, that "Twilight Zone" feeling! I'm certainly still figuring out this new life, but so far things have been going really great! Good luck, I can't wait to hear from you all again once you are back home!
