hi there, i was banded on the 6th, and just had my first fill yesterday. my surgeon recc after 2 days going to mushies and then after 2 weeks of mushies going to solids. i have been so surprised that salad has been on of the easiest solids to get down (the dietician said because it has such a high Water content. I hear ya about being ready or wanting to move on ahead. for what it's worth, be careful of chicken, i have pb a ouple of times over it....i have also seen all over this board about having some sort of "gravy" or liquid to ease meats down... as far as carbs etc. it seems that the meal plans are as varied as anything. some folks are doing just smaller portions of regular food. then there are those of us who are carb phobic LOL and are south beach ish For me this is better because i'm currently a type 2 diabetic...who is rapidly decreasing her meds due to my surgery and weight loss i hope this helps....but what cracks me up is that i might have 6 little ritz bits and i feel like oh no i've cheated...when before it would have been so much worse... wishing you peace in bandland amanda

for what it's worth when i obstructed after my first surgery, i started having esophageal spasms...wow did that hurt..like a big ball in the chest..very similar feel to a heart attack...it doubled me over and i'm pretty tough...i found after he resolved the obstruction i still has painful spasm that warm liquid helped and the medicine Levsin help me with the spasm...perhaps if this continues it would be somethingto ask about amanda -

I don't deserve how good this band has been to me.

what courage to post this very revealing and insightful note. i find such encouragement in what you're saying and it just reminds me that GRACE comes from a lot of places...even our bands....and especially ourselves and each other. If any of us had this crap figured out then we wouldn't be here.....i often find myself saying "those of us who have required GRACE have much GRACE to give" The grace to forgive ourselves and each other for imperfections. I also find myself saying if you have a belly button , your job description is to "F" up. If you've had a TT and you have a new plastic surgery belly button you still "F" up it's just prettier LOL My wish for you and me and any of us is Grace, Forgiveness, Gratitude, and Peace May you have all in great abundance Amanda -
boy am i relieved....i read all over about the same plateau hitting just as people are starting to recover from surgery....i still am doing my good things for myself, but that dang scale annoys me....so i am boycotting my scale for the next one week until i go to see my doc next week for my post op and first fill.....meanwhile my wedding ring is looser, i had to take a link out of my watch and i have dropped a size....i don't get how we can change and the scale not reflect it, but it seems to be true...if anyone has a logical explanation i'm all ears amanda

hey guys, my dm was doing well post op (when my intake was zilch)...but i've been having fasting levels around 140...and my weight loss has stalled...i'm calling my endocrinologist and bariatric dietician.... but wondering if anyone has experience with this phenomenon/// also i've got to ditch my glucophage...even cracked in to 4 pieces and with little restriction it gets painfully stuck....i'm gonna try januvia + glimiperide 2.0mg did today and felt a little shaky hypoglycemic at lunch....will keep you posted amanda

DIABETICS higher glucose=slower weight loss?
peabody replied to peabody's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hey jack thanks for writing....my endocrinologist called and said glucophage is available in liquid....i think it's 500mg per every 5ml....she's calling me in some i'll let you know how it goes amanda -
another NSV i hate my scale it's been stuck for 5 days....i know part of it is that my diabetes has been a litttle less than predictable and i've been letting it run a little high (for safety) especially when i was obstructed. now i feel like my intake is okay and that i can get in some quick glucose if i need to....BUT TO MY NSV!!! i walk at work every day at noon...today i wore these really great velvet pants that i couldn't button the inner button on before surgery...today i put them on without un buttoning them---just slid them right on woohoo..and on my walk i had to keep hitching them up. also i grabbed a full handful of fabric on each leg and held it up a little while walking because they were rubbing together not my legs but the excess fabric was rubbing together......let's spread some joy and encouragement post those NSV amanda

okay i love your sense of humor....better to have a belly button ass than to be one LOLOL.....amanda

Gas, Churns, and other mystery noises

dear fur 365, here's a huge hug for you. i was operated on 2-6, obstructed on 2-7 emergency surgery 2-8...and for the painful time i was obstructed, i really wondered what the------ i had done to myself. i also get the pain if i eat too much or too fastor don't chew well enough, or if it's a texture i'm not dealing with well. for me at around 7 days from my second surgery it clicked...i could get my Water in without feeling like it was gonna come out ....and i could eat carefully eat chewing well, without pain. this weekend something wonderful happened....i'm down about 20 llbs but i feel like i have shed about 5 years from my body. i was able to walk with my son to our lake and garden, play with him on the swingset, and still had some energy left. i know your struggling, and probably grieving the loss of a friend(food) but hold on it's so worth it we can all do it----no victims here, we finally have a tool to work with, but it won't do the work for us....that's ok...we got each other and our bands, and our teams.... amanda -
dear gibson, good luck and if you smoke....stop...otherwise hang in there prayers are on the way amanda

hey there, can i get one..amanda is a vv? thanks amanda

hey guys, i'm one of those goobers who weighs daily....and i can get a little stuck on it but here's my NSV 2 years ago i bought this luscious rose and ivory silk jacket (on sale!) and never had the right thing to go with it or outgrew it......Yesterday I pulled it out from the back of the closet, and miracle of miracles the dang thing fit and was a little roomy!!!!!!! I was elated...talk about motivating today i've gotten my Water in on schedule (the postop swelling is down now) and today 1 week out from my 2nd surgery (revision) i was able to walk at lunch almost my usual pre op distance let's go girls amanda

hey guys, lets keep all our posts here at least....as we all move forward, it's one stop shopping for support, ideas, inspiration etc. i have just sorted out now that my postop gas is quieted (shall we say) that if i'm eating a texture that is not going so well i get pain in my chest presumably from my esophagus...i seem to be prone to spasm there since the obstruction last week...also i got the med Levsin from my doc to help with spasm...not induced by food....My band and esophagus are not liking really cold fluids...so once again here is my favorite new beverage crystal light peach tea...mixed 1/2 strength...sprinkle with c.l. lemonade, and cinnamon heat and drink this sweet and spiced tea it goes down easier for me than the normal cold tea amanda

hey guys, i had surgery 2-6-8....but was completely obstructed by the next day...spitting up my own saliva. called my doc who said come right in...he did not prefill, but was able to get 6cc of air and saline out (with great exertion on his part) i did better but reobstructed that night.... kept thinking it was post op swelling, i slept sitting up, did all that i could. My surgeon had arrainged for me to be admitted that night (2-7-8) but i declined to try and work on it overnight. needless to say a full obstruction (two of them now) is not going away on its on. I had a revision surgery 2-8-8 with immediate relief. my doc has done over 1,300 cases, and i was only the 6th obstruction he'd had...mine ended up being due to an abberrant bundle of veins that were hidden under the fat surrounding my stomach. He carefully dissected these out, and i am now home with only normal postop pain...which is not bad at all. Moral of the story, go back immediately if vomitting post op..... all i can say is that my surgeon was compassionate and quick to work with me.....the yucky part i am self pay i'm gonna try and see if my insurance will cover the second admission as a complication....cross your fingers... i'm banded and able to drink fluids now wooo hooo amanda
