  1. There are a few people you DONT want to piss off: your server - yes, (very few of them) they'll sometimes "do" things to your food. Have you ever watched those hidden video shows?? Uck! your hairdresser - watch those scissors!! your gynecologist - need I say more?!! the airport luggage person - I have personal experience with this! I'm sure there are many more. Like someone said, the servers are just following the rules and don't get paid enough to have people "go off" on them.
  2. I can see both sides. I've worked in food service, and I'm waiting to be banded. Having worked in food service, I'm always a generous tipper. I can understand the extra time it takes to make a special dish. After LBS, I will probably go to the same restaurants I've been to before. If a restaurant doesn't allow the smaller portion dish, I won't make a stink, I'll just get a go box. I'm not telling many people about my LBS, so I wouldnt want to make a scene. I could see possibly where a card might be a discreet way to request a smaller portion. There is a sample card on the "Obesity Help Magazine" website.

    Going Crazyyy!

I hear ya! I'm waiting on insurance approval, but didn't have to jump throught as many hoops as you did! Is that stuff all an insurance requirement? Or is it because you're young? I dont feel so bad about my waiting maybe 6 weeks! Hang in there!

    When Strangers attack ....

Hey Pix, maybe you'll be lucky enough to run into her again at the store and really let her have it. Get our your mace! Oh, and colostomy boy....I would do some seriouse stalking of the Wal Mart handicap parking spaces to search him out.

    Weird Dreams?

Oh, and why isn't anyone writing about weird dreams? I can't be the only one.....

    Weird Dreams?

Yes, this computer keeps me far from the kitchen and not eating as much! Don't worry, I used to crochet to keep my hands busy a long time ago. Maybe I'll take that up again! Oh and also macreme'! (I'm a lot older than you!) I did some surfing for info for my DH, but didn't really find anything except the obvious. I'm going to go camp out at a bookstore soon and look.
  7. I'm 5'8" and 36 BMI. I "carry it well" too, but also want to lose around 80+ lbs. We sound about the same size, Sooverit. "Just big." I've yo yo'd over and over and am also tired of this fight. All of my Dr appts and tests are done, and I'm anxiously awaiting insurance approval. My only good friend whom I've told, is also overweight, but seems cynical about the LBS. I'm pretty sure she'll be supportive once things are finalized. DH has never had a weight problem but is supportive. I don't want to tell anyone else at this point since I've heard about more negative comments than positive. I pretty much just have this forum to help me rant and rave! I'm so glad everybody is here!

    Weird Dreams?

Yeah, thats a good one. I'd have to use DH's Jack & 7's, but I know he would say "I can quit anytime." To him I've said "yes, but you cant quit eating like you can quit drinking or smoking!" I'm going to keep surfing the web for info for him. Did you have "brain hunger"? How did you deal with it if you did? I wonder how spouses put up with all the physical changes like how estrogen is stored in fat, so some think when you lose fast, it releases that and can make you nutty for a while.
  9. How cool, BetsyJane. You have a pet deer!! Again, even if this is a bill not expected to pass from the start, what a waste of taxpayers' money! Idiots.
  10. Yeah, they'll have to weigh and measure you at the door? And check ID, because quote: ".....2/3 of Mississippians are obese..." so does that mean only residents of the state? And what about fake ID's???!! I could go on and on, but I digress...... It will never get passed, but how much of the state's money are they waisting on this?

    When Strangers attack ....

OMG! You guys are scaring me! His colostomy bag??!!! You couldn't even make something up that wild! I can relate to the self-restraint, PIX, I have little kids too and have had to control myself. Good job!
  12. A five year history??!!! What the h*ll is up with THAT? I hope BC doesn't want that from me, we just moved here 2 years ago, and there is no way I can get my history. I couldnt even get my previous baseline mammogram forwarded here..... Sorry to hear about your denial, n mist. You may want to look up some posts of people who have fought/appealed to their insurance for some ideas on what to do next.
  13. Angie's hope, I live a little bit west of Traverse City. My DH and I grew up here, moved away, but moved back with the family 2 years ago, so I'm not sick of the snow (yet). I got my kids' soccer info, so I know spring is on its way! We have about 3 feet of snow in the yard and we're running out of places to put the plowed snow! Anyway, I went to the seminar back in August, and I was about the least overweight person there (except for the presenters) out of about 200 people! I definetly got some looks, but no rude comments. I'm tall too. 5'8" and my BMI is about 36, so I "carry it well" as I'm sure you tall gals have heard. I dont have a surgery date yet, but am leaning toward keeping my mouth shut too. It seems like anyone of any size just doesn't get it. Unless THEY have had the surgery, like the people on this forum. Its really been a lifesaver for me. Good luck to everyone. (This waiting is killing me!!!)

    Big Medicine

Pearlygirl, congrats on your date. IF I get ins. approval, I'll either be a March or April bandster.
  15. Anyone had experience with this? My family is supposed to drive about 1700 miles (each way) during Spring Break. I don't have a surgery date yet, but was wondering how anyone may have survived a long car trip. I'm not so much worried about having the right soft foods or being a few days late for my 1st fill, just the comfort/pain part. I'd hate to have to say "no, I can't have the surgery until next month because I'm taking a trip...."!! Especially after all of this dang WAAAAAAAAIIIITING!!!!! :tt2:
  16. Blund

    freaking out!

I'm goin for the pain meds! I've read here that the arm/shoulder pain is gas (yes, gas), and walking a lot helps releive it (release it!)
  17. I left a message with the coordinator at my surgeon's office. I'm sure she has all the patients driving her nuts. Hopefully she'll call back today or tomorrow.

I need a pin up name!! Help me!

OK. So a 40's or 50's style name would be appropriate......hmmmm...

A change in plans that disapoint me

Sorry to hear about your problems, Chell. Many insurance companies will pay your travel expenses. Good luck.

Reverse your LBT monniker... Kitty Boo Boo What exactly is a "pin up model"??

    Big Medicine

I've just recently started watching Big Medicine. I saw last night where they showed the LB. I'd never seen one done on the show before. I hope they do more and follow up on the patients. Did you notice how "blown up" her belly was? (I know they do this so they can see everything.) No wonder everyone talks about the terrible gas pains during recovery! I'll be sure and ask my surgeon to suck out as much of that air as possible!! Sheeeeesh! I think Tiffany is doing great, but she might be better off NOT living at home if possible. Her family is a giant coronary waiting to happen. I know she's stubborn, but how long can she live in the middle of all that crappy food? I also saw the lady with the old lap band. That was strange, the father-son surgeons arguing over what to do with the band. Looked like it would take a lot of digging to get the old one out though....and there was no infection or anything.
  22. When were you banded, Megster? I saw the psych at "Old Town Psych Serv" Dr Mike somebody, I don't remember, but he was GOOD looking! I know there is a support group for bariatric surgery (mostly RNY people) and I asked him about a Lap Band support group. He said there isn't one around here, but he's been thinking about starting one. He said 8 out of 10 patients he sees now are Lap Banders. I live about 30 minutes from TC, but would probably attend if he started one. If there is enough interest, I bet he'd do it. Barb
  23. The waiting is making me crazy! I think I'll call the surgeon's office to see if they have everything yet. Anyone out there using Grand Traverse Surgery?
  24. I'm waiting for approval from my insurance, but I have only told 1 friend that I'm "looking into it." My DH knows that I want to do this and is supportive, but also just doesn't get why I can't lose it. His family is thin like some of you have posted, and I would expect negative comments from them. My good friend is also heavy, but is skepticle about the surgery. I'm not going to tell anyone else at this point, and I don't know about after surgery. My in-laws are close by, so it may be difficult to hide it from them....but they are losing their memories!!! lol! I also have 3 small children, but my DH works from home and is prepared to pitch in with them. In reading these posts, there seem to be a lot of reasons NOT to tell everybody. We don't socialize much (we just moved here 2 yrs ago) so I doubt I'll have much of a problem with it. I'll just see what happens after recovery....

What does this mean to you? (BCBS)

Good for you ronwifey! I'm trying not to make myself and my DH nuts waiting. I'm kind of concerned when things might happen (if approved), with spring break coming up. We plan to travel.
