  1. Sorry for your loss and lack of information. If your family believes it was band related, then you have a right to know details, don't you? If there's a Dr patient confidentiallity issue, perhaps your surgeon or PCP could contact her Dr and get the information. At least your Dr would be informed, in case there was a problem with her band, which would only be fair to him too. Good luck.

    Depression Sucks

I take meds for depression. Tried to go off them a couple of times in the last 10 years, but ended up back on them. Please be honest with your Dr. There isn't much of that stigma with depression meds anymore. Losing weight and stress can cause all kinds of havok with the chemicals in your body. Nature really stuck it to women with our hormones and all! Estrogen is stored in our fat, so when we lose the fat, the estrogen blasts through us! I did a sleep study too as part of my ammunition for insurance approval. I have sleep apnea, not severe, but I was only getting about 3 - 6 or 7 minute chunks of REM sleep a night! Since getting my CPAP machine, I feel SOOOOOOOOO much better. That may help you too. Again, make sure you ask for help from your PCP. Good Luck.
  3. I'm not part of an actual "trial" but am part of a study on bariatric surgery for 5 years I think. I have to fill out a questioniere for them once a year. Its either by Michigan State University, or University of Michigan. There is nothing different about my overall care. The nurse said they are researching what protocall works best. Hopefully, this will be beneficial for future insurance approvals.

    My first negative reaction

I might email my friend an informative link. We've been friends since 3rd grade when I was a stick & she was chubby. Both of our weights have gone up and down over the years, and now we're both overweight again, and have been for a while. I'm going to keep doing my research (mostly on the "head hunger" issue) and not bring it up to her again unless I have to. Like I said, she's not UNsupportive, just worried, I think.

    My first negative reaction

Its not really a negative response, but my good friend keeps giving me the "are you sure you want to do this?" She's overweight too, and keeps suggesting the things I've already tried like food logs, excercise schedules, etc. I believe she'll be supportive, and just doesn't know much about the band. DH is like "lets go!"
  6. I want to see sky between my thighs! 10 years ago, I could do this!! I want to be able to squat down to the ground AND get back up again without struggling. Wear shorts in PUBLIC.

    My first negative reaction

Don't ya just love it? "Taking the easy way out"!??? Like surgery, recovery, emotional, & complete lifestyle change will be easy? I suppose the nicotine patch is the "easy way out" for smokers? Insulin is the "easy way out" for diabetics???!! I could go on, but..... I just love the ideas I get here for replies to stupid comments.
  8. My surgeon REQUIRES that I drink 1 unjury daily for my 2 week pre-op diet. The nutritionist gave me a sample that I tried, and it was fine. She said I may be able to find it cheaper on the web than what they sell it for - $20. I bought some stuff at Sam's Club marketed to the body-builder types, and it has 23 grams of whey Protein (I was told to get whey protein, whatever difference that makes, I don't know), 3 gr. carbs & 120 calories.

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Hi Everyone! I'm scheduled to be banded on my birthday, April 24th!! Wonder if there are other "birthday bandsters". Anyway, now that the LONG AWAITED date is near, I'm reading everything I can to be sure its the right decision. Seemed like I was very sure before I was approved and scheduled!! Thats probably normal. I'm glad Easter is over, and my kids' candy & chocolate fest is done! I think thats another good thing about getting banded this time of year.....AFTER the holidays and Easter. Why are Cookies & candy automatically thrown into holidays? I guess I look at it differently now! Well, I'm excited & nervous......reminds me of the "great unknowns" like with the birth of my first baby. Luckilly, we're taking a trip over spring break, so that will help the time pass. Sorry, I'm just rambling..... Kat, thanks for the support. I see you EVERYWHERE on this forum!! Good luck everyone! Barb

  11. Teachlady, Thats great that you were able to get a group together. Our paper will publish "callendar of events" type ads for free too. Good idea. So far, I've only seen WW, OA meetings. I plan to push for one here.
  12. jaylow, My girls are 7 & 9 and I'm scheduled to be banded 4/24. How long have you been banded? Did your kids EVER ask what was up or anything? Mine are both sticks too, but its a bad age for girls & body image, so I'm not sure what I'll do.
  13. Thanks! I have a 2 week pre-op diet, but it isn't really strict. I'm not a big cake person, but LOVE ice cream! That can be made into a liquid, right?!! And its calcium?!!
  14. I've been kicking this whole idea around for a couple of months now. (There are quite a few threads/posts on the topic.) I think it depends on the kids' ages. Mine are young (and THIN) too, 5,7,& 9 yrs; with the 2 oldest being girls. Now that I actually have a surgery date, it's going to be on my mind more. I have 3 more pre-op appts, then I'll be on the pre-op diet, then at the hospital, then home for recovery, and then new eating habits. All of this additiional activity will be pretty obvious. I don't really want them blabbing it to their friends all over school, but mostly I don't want to give them a complex either (like Angie4b1g said). But on the other hand, it may not affect them and I'm making too much of it. My surgery is a month out and so far only my DH and 1 good friend know. I would suggest searching the threads on the topis for other ideas.
  15. I'M HAVING MY SURGERY FOR MY BIRTHDAY ON APRIL 24TH !!!!!! yipeeeeeeeeeee!!!! I'd be interested in a TC group, demsvmejm. GTS might be willing to contact the Band patients to see if anyone's interested. I know everything's confidential, so that is the only way I can think of. Seems like GTS would help. I'd be willing to help in any way too. Barb
  16. This is hillarious! Once I get my band, I just know my DH is going to have a great time with my "side effects" even though I won't!
  17. demsvmejm, I wondered if (and suspected) thats what the "meetings" were all about. I said before Dr Hayes (shrink) sounded open to the idea of a LB group, since most evaluations he does now are for LB. I might pursue him on that. From my reading here, life after RNY and life after LBS are quite different, and if there is enough interest, maybe we could get a group together for support. GTS has a message board, and I've only looked at it a couple of times, but its just regular chit-chat. Kind of a waste of time. NOTHING like here. I'll keep you informed ...... -Barb
  18. Hi. Thanks for the advise. I bought a food scale and a bath scale online for $85 with shipping. They had several on clearance and the food scale has the nutrition calculator and a memory so it will keep a running total. Sounded cool, I just hope its not too complicated to operate!! I have 48 hours to return them anyways. Shipping was very reasonable too...still worth the price. Thanks again, Barb
  19. I know I need to buy a good one. Digital I assume. I've looked at a few, but does anyone have any advise or opinions? I also need to buy a kitchen scale to weigh food. I like the ones with the removable plate/bowl. Thanks, Barb
  20. Hi. Thanks for the advise. I bought a food scale and a bath scale online at "Save On scales." 21. I guess I'm simular. I have BC of California and live in Michigan and just got approved with 36 BMI and co-morbidities of sleep apnea, GERD, arthritis, and depression. My blood sugar, collesteral and blood pressure have always been very good, so I was worried I wouldnt be "morbid" enough with my co-morbidities. They did approve me. My surgeon's office who did the work up thought everything looked good for my approval. Maybe you've already done this, but find a surgeon in your area and go to their seminar. At my seminar, they seemed to know all of the ins and outs with the insurance companies. Oh, and check your coverage. My BC required that I use a "center of expertise" for the procedure, so you may want to research that first. I'm still surprised I was approved, so don't give up! Good Luck
  22. My surgeon's office has a clothing swap for the WLS patients. Maybe look into that??

    married life

Oh gosh! Have to like cats!!! No offence, but I've heard Aussie men can be more on the "macho" side....women are the lesser sex, etc? I threatened to change teams at my divorce! My 1st husband almost never worked, and spent lots of money. Then after a few years, decided to start dating again. Hmmmmmm....I kinda had a problem with that. My now #2 DH, is great. I just deleted all of my bragging on him cuz I read it over and thought I was going to barf! Anyway, good luck.
  24. Me too, Jack. Love the "Little Angel of Silicon Fist" :mad2:

I Want My Band Removed Now!!!!!

I'm waiting for my surgery date, and find all these comments helpful. I have not changed my mind, but its given me (and others I'm sure) a lot to think about before the big day. About one's "tone of voice" not being able to show with a typed message. I have a dry sense of humor, and am always having to explain myself!! I agree that her Drs should have shown more responsibility in being sure she was ready for this. At 3 months, OP will feel different, if not for the weight loss she's accomplished, but the actual physical, emotional, and hormonal changes that come with it. (Coming from my many yo-yo experiences!) I say, quit obsessing about it. There is nothing you can do anyway until 3 months post op. At that point, re-assess everything. Best of luck. I
