Its hard for me to remember to take small sips (I'm still on liquids). Sometimes I have to spit out some of my water or broth because I took too big of a drink! I haven't had any serious pain from sipping to much.....just like a gas bubble stuck in my esophogus. I pound on my chest a few times & burp.

WOW Carol, in only 18 days?!!! That is amazing! And good for you!

Proud Dad, I was about to post the same thing! I had to cook a frozen pizza tonight for my kids. It smelled up the whole house! I quick got it out of the oven, cut it up, got plates out for them, and ran upstairs to my room to hide (and feel sorry for myself!). I'm on liquids 1 wk post op, then to mushies & cream soups. I want something to CHEW ON !!!! I AM losing a lot of weight, though......

Yes, I've heard that about hair falling out. There is another thread on it with a poll you should check out. Its less than half that have any loss, I think.

Stuff you Need at Home

OK, I'm day 2 post-op, and I wish I would have had EAR PLUGS at the hospital. There was so much damn BEEPING from all the machinery in the different rooms, it drove me nuts! Some of it I got used to, but when one would "alarm" all of a sudden and wake me up?!!!! argggghhh! -
I Finally Made It! This is day 2 post-op for me. I'm on clear liquids for a week, then to mushies, etc. I haven't been hungry and I haven't had gas. My Dr must have "deflated" me well!! LOL A little pain from the incisions (I have 5 total) but they gave me liquid vicodin for that. Everyone at the hospital was great. (I could never be a nurse!) I was out of surgery at 10:30am and pretty much slept the rest of the day and the whole night. The next day I felt pretty good, and went home around noon. I had a very strange roommate, but thats another thread!! Might be interesting though.....hmmmmmmmmm...... Congrats to us all and keep up the good work! -Barb

Stuff you Need at Home

The shower chair sounds like a great idea. I'll just use a plastic outdoor chair. What about Tums? They are chewable....is it just that most people dont like the taste of them or what? I didn't buy the Gas X because we have tons of tums. Before I go to sleep, I'm going to ask the Dr to please deflate me as much as possible to be rid of some gas!! Wish he'd tie my tubes while hes in there! -
Hey guys. I found a Wal Mart brand of Crystal Lite that is way cheaper. Haven't tried it yet, because I have some K2O powder to finish. I also found these drinks called "Slim Lite" at Sam's Club that are very good. I got a case of 3 or 4 different flavors and I like them all. They have 0 calories, 0 Fat, 95 mg of calcium, 76 mg of vit. C, and 85 mcg of chromium. My kids like them too, which is good AND bad!! I'll have to send DH to Sam's soon! I guess I'm weird. I like all of these drinks and the protein powder. The protein powder almost stuffs me.

Wendy, I find out my time tomorrow. I have to call the hospital in the afternoon. They do the bariatric surgeries in the morning, so I asked to be last in the group, so DH and I can get our kids off to school. We live about 30 minutes away from the hospital, then there's the getting to the hospital early and waiting around for surgery. We don't have anyone for child care early in the morning like that. Everyone's seemed accomodating so far, so I think it will be OK. Maybe DH will let me keep his laptop so I can go online!! LOL The hospital has wireless internet. Or, maybe I'll just sleep and enjoy the quiet without my kids!! I'm glad about having to be on liquids only one day too. I couldn't imagine liquids only, for 1 or 2 weeks!!! YIKES!! Good luck and keep in touch. Barb

2 DAYS till banding!!!! Tomorrow is clear liquids only. I finally broke down and told my 7 & 9 year old daughters this morning. I know they've noticed the extra DR apts, new strange foods around the house, etc. I told them NOT to tell ANYONE, and I trust them about 80 % on that, but we'll see!! I will give my 5 year old son less info due to his age. They'll have to help out their dad and let me rest for a few days, so I hope I made the right decision. Had to explain to them that nobody is to know, even grandparents. At least till when and IF I decide to tell them. Don't want nosey people constantly asking me how I'm doing, etc. Also don't want to have the pressure of them watching me eat. After so many yo-yo's, failure is also a thought thats out there, but I really think this will do it. I'm ready to make this work for me. I'm really looking forward to it and I'm not really nervous about surgery.

2 More Days!!!!!!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

I'm 44 and a stay-at-home mom with 3 kids (5,7,9yrs) too. 2 years ago, we moved back where DH and I grew up to raise the kids and be closer to our families. I have one good friend here who is very busy. We've been friends since 3rd & 4th grade! She's a teacher and does LOTS of extra activities with the school and has a teen-aged daughter. She does have summers off, so is more available then, but during the school year - forget it. I'm not sure how I'm going to handel it. I bought some crochet hooks a while back, so maybe I'll keep my hands busy with that. Also, my computer is as far from the frig as it possibly can be and time just FLIES by when I'm on this thing! As far as making friends, its never been easy for me. I'm more the type to have 2 or 3 good friends, than a whole big group. I don't know how old your kids are annieM, but mine are getting more involved in soccer, softball, basketball, etc. and it is a big social event for parents. DH and I had SO MANY friends where we moved from, its really been a tough adjustment. Sorry, I'm rambling...........

Hi, Everyone....I think I'll be the contrarian voice here...

Count me in. Why doesn't OP just blog his "story" in all of his free time. Then he can refer anyone who is interest to that? -

A small percent of people can have bad results from ANY procedure, and I suppose there are a small percent of people who DONT do their research to prepare themselves. There is also the fact that like having children, you CANT fully prepare yourself. You just have to do your best then deal with the aftermath. ("Aftermath pertaining more to raising kids than improving my health!!! Also, some of the money from all of our Lap Band surgeries helps to pay for improvements on the band and educating Drs and improved surgeries. So who knows how long our bands will last? Someone banded 3 years ago may go 10+ years. Someone banded this year may go 15+ years. The way we work or bands and our lifestyles will affect the longevity of the band too. My surgeon said that "they" (I always wonder who the hell those "they" people are!!) are working on a procedure using a scope down the throat with no incisions! Maybe humans can evolve with smaller stomachs, since we don't have to eat as much as our instincts tell us to. I'm excited way more than nervous about my upcoming Band Day. I walk around in stores NOT buying plus-sized clothes, and smiling to myself because soon I'll be wearing the cute stuff again! Good luck to us all!! -Barb -
Being banded this week...SO scared. Encouragement needed!

5 MORE DAYS!! (Including today) Exciting! My girlfriend & I want to go see The Police on May 11th. Its about a 3 hour drive to the arena. Assuming I have no complications, I should be OK enough to go, right? That' 17 days post-op. My friend is concerned about it, but from what I've read here, seems like it should be fine. I promise not to pounce on Sting! Maybe I can wear my too small jeans!! -

I'm schedulled to get banded this week too and am getting a little nervous. I'm mostly excited to have it done, though. I think the closer the day gets, the less clear our thoughts are about the whole thing. I tell myself that I made this choice a while ago, when I was less emotional and thinking clearly. Now all of the "what ifs" come at me, and its a battle going on in my head! Kinda like the devil and angel on each shoulder, but only its the Lapband and a pizza!!!!! We'll be fine. -
Surgery on the 24th of April in Texas....anyone else
Blund replied to Baggio's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
TexasFire, I'm in Michigan and getting banded on MY Birthday ALSO April 24th!!!! What a present to myself!! There is a thread about "April Avengers post-surgery check in" that is really neat to read. Gets me more excited!! Barb -

1 week out!!!
Hi Brenda, I had my last appt with Dr. Nizzy & MK, and the pre-reg at the hospital yesterday. Everyone has been great. The nurse at the pre-reg told me that she keeps seeing people come through for LBS and is wondering about herself getting it. The anesthesiologist (sp?) said to me: "You have a small mouth. Has your dentist told you that before?" LOL!! Yes, its hard to believe, but I have been told that! I hope my throat doesnt get too beat up!! How was yours afterwards?
I've bought a few jars of babyfood...mostly to reuse the jars for portions of homemade stuff, but I'll eat it too. I have cream soups, "Better Than Broth", LF yogurt, Wal Mart brand crystal light (1/3 price!!), egg beaters, SF jello, SF pudding, SF popsickles, LF cottage cheese, NS added frozen fruit.
I also have a heating pad, very large band aids, tums, tylenol, pill crusher, hand-held mixer and a couple extra pair of big sweat pants. (I have chapstick in my purse.)
Anything you see I missed???
Thanks, Barb

Carol 422. I agree about having the "tool" to finally be able to keep off the weight I've lost! I've gained and lost enough weight in my life to make 2 or 3 extra people!!! Major YO YO-ing. I feel confident to soon be getting the band/tool to stay at a healthy weight!
-
Me too. Lets get this show on the road! Pre-op diet is a pain....in that I have to write it all down and calculate callories, protein, etc. I'm doing pretty good sticking to it though, and have already lost weight. I guess I feel like since I don't have a super hight BMI, I can relax a bit. I'm excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My apnea is not severe, but I have a CPAP and was told to bring the machine for recovery.

I agree. I say, error on the side of discipline! My DH and I get compliments on our kids' (5,7,9 yrs) behavior. We taught them good table manners & behavior from day uhhhhh...300-ish!! Anyway, they know they better behave in public BETTER than at home, or else! They are pretty good at home most of the time. The other disturbing thing I've noticed, is the sense of entitlement a lot of kids of all ages have. Teenagers dont "feel like having a summer job" then have a cell phone and ipod, etc! Don't give them money! My daughter came home from school telling me her friend got a ton of stuff (not just candy), and an ipod from the Easter Bunny!!! ( Our kids get the candy & egg hunt.) OMG! I told her the Easter Bunny IS NOT SANTA CLAUSE! WTF? No wonder they feel so entitled! I know where some parents are. They're throwing cash at their kids, instead of interacting with them.

Trouble telling my therapist
Blund replied to PennyLane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My therapist "graduated" me at the end of several months of therapy during the end of my 1st marriage. Its a positive term to use. -
Done, nesser.
