who supports right to choose
hnladue replied to 396power's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok since we're having so much fun attacking each other, I'd like to add, that by GadgetLady's (and others) reasoning.... ie fertilized egg=baby, then I'd like to add doesn't that mean that every woman on birth control is a killer??? After all, the pill and other birth control methods, do kill fertilized eggs, therefore all women who have ever been on birth control are baby killers..... I support BJean.... prove to me that it's a baby.... it's a cancer! It's a parasite... until it can breathe air and doesn't need a host to survive, it's not a baby. -
My surgery is Tuesday!! April 8th. I have to do liquids for 5 days before. I'm off work for 3 weeks. My mom is out searching for a juicer. For after surgery, at least I can get fresh veges in!
-
I'm on day 2 of my pre-op liquid diet.... someone SHOT ME!! oye.... slimfast isn't too bad. I have the cappiccino delight, vanilla and strawberry creme. Mom also made sf jello too... I just keep in mind the bigger picture..... losing weight!!

Just hide a couple of rolls of quarters in your pocket when you weight in!!!

This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!

And they say Cows (or rather, gas from cows) are causing global warming...... wonder if there's a way to trap the gas from DS'er and put it use?? Take about a 'natural gas' stove...... hehe -
Yes, I got to see those letters...... I had to help write them because she hadn't done it before!! She's great to deal with and even helped my mom understand why I need the band. My mom even sees her now!! Talk about Family Doctor!! hehe... Good luck with the Beyond Diets!!! Dr Shedd suggested that for me years ago, but I thought it was a book she wanted me to get so I never looked into it.... doh...
-
Yes!!! I use Dr Shedd.... love her.

Flying/scuba diving should not affect your band. If it does, you must have air in the system. Air is what contracts or expands. I would see your Dr and tell him about it. It could be possible for the air to expand and burst the band.

T- I think whatever you choose it's wonderful!! Just keep in touch!

The nutritional is no big deal, neither is the psyc eval. They are just looking to see how you are mentally. If you can handle the upcoming changes, if you are bulemic or such, other addictions.... just be honest. BCBS requires all those too. Also a 5% weight loss, so get going on that!!! I bet Preferred Care requires it too. We all strong girls and I'll stand by any of you that need help!!! Tang-any decision yet??? Traci-thanks again for answering my questions!! Helps to know what's ahead. I go tomorrow for pre-surgery testing. Blood test, ekg, chest xray. 2 weeks to go and I'm excited!

Surgery date with no approval??
hnladue replied to BandedInNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS of NY.... Dr would NOT schedule my date until we had approval..... I would call them on that.... both the DR and BSBC. At first they denied me then it took another 3+ weeks to appeal and get approval..... I wouldn't want to see you on a liquid diet for 7 weeks..... I would end up killing someone if I had to do that! -
Hi everyone!! I've been working with my surgeon for over a yr now to get approved for the lapband. I'm almost there!! I have to lose a few more pounds before the insurance will approve me. (strange.... I need the band surgery to lose weight, but the ins co requires me to lose weight before??? catch 22 eh?) well, I only have 2 pounds to go before I'm at their goal. I weigh in next wednesday. I'm glad to have found this site! Lots of good information. My mom (who I live with) is making me nuts sometimes about this. She's a food addict and is worried I won't be able to eat enough after the surgery (isn't that kinda the point??) Oye!! About me: I'm 38, still live at home (my dad died a yr ago due to surgery complications). I have 2 dogs (one w/cancer) 4 cats and a few other critters. I work full time at a university fixing computers. I like to scuba dive and work on my outdoor pond and garden stuff. Anyone in the area, I'd love to hear your experiences/plans!! --Heather.

Here is Traci's reqsponce to my question. She put it in a totally different thread for some reason, so I'm coping here so the rest of you can read it. "HI hnladue I am responding to the couple of questions you had for me. The first was yes I had a catheder but they did it while I was sleeping. It did not hurt when they took it out which was a few hours later because I was up out of bed around 5:30-6:00 that night. I did not have any gas or gas pains. The pain really was minimal it is very hard to explain, my stomach did feel very weird and sick feeling. It felt like it was attacking itself. at times I would think i was hungry but not really and other times i'd think i wanted something to drink but i didnt want thst either. The first week was hard i will be completely honest with you but after that i felt very good and was up and around. If i had to do it all over agin i'd do it in a heartbeat. Dr. DiBenedetto is great and has a wonderful bedside manner. Good luck to you keep me posted!!!!!!!!!! you will be glad you chose this for yourself."

Almost Approved From Upstate NY
hnladue replied to hnladue's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Rugman-we too have the same requirement. I've lost 20 pounds as per the doc's requirement. BCBS only requires a 5% weight loss. Mom is slowly getting the idea that this is a good thing!! Took a good bat to the head however!! (Not really.... just my pcp put it into perpective for her) -
I used to back in the day. I'm too heavy now and it's harder to hang on!! Hopefully once I get banded and lose a bunch I can get back into it. Also got a little too expensive!!
-
Traci, How was your surgery?? I got to met w.Theresa (Dr.D. Wife) yesterday for the nutrition part. She said they place a catheder in?? WTF!!! NNNooooooooo!!! How was your stay in the hosptial? Also Theresa said that there is no gas issue afterwards because the 'drain' the gas out. Is this true? Did you have any gas pains? Thanks for the help! --Heather.

I foreign object like the band can't be any different then a pacemaker, hip replacement, knee replacement, plate in your head!!!! At least the band is removeable when most of the others I mentioned are not.

Whats with the LapBandTalk ads taking of 2 pages at the start of the forums in Lap-Band Talk Community Center?? At first I though I was being redirected or the forums were hi-jacked. Can you please remove that?

Thank you Alex!!! I knew it wasn't spyware. Was wondering if you were trying to give me a hint that I should send you $$!!! HA!

HELP my doc recommeded RNY????
hnladue replied to Tangerine4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought about both before also. I went with the band because I won't have to give up any foods (just they will be moderated!), no dumping, no rerouting my insides, less risky in some ways, and I will lose slower. Slower I think is better. Gives our bodies a better chance at healing. less lose skin. Also the adjustable part, and removable are a plus! Once you go RNY there is no return! It's all on you to decide, but we will support your decision and I hope you stay in touch with whatever you decide! -
It's not doing it now. It was a 2 page advert about advertising on lapband talk for $750.

Weight Watchers has nice scales. Don't know the cost however.
